On board recognition - who gets any?

To report... my flight from Per-Mel went without a hitch. Besides the welcome when boarding there was No special treatment in Y as a SG. I kept my row 10 shadow afterall. Saw a few very attractive members of the Virgin crew.

Saw a couple more on the Mel-Chc leg.

VA883 melb-sydney 7pm flight. Platinum member.

Offered row 3. Great friendly service in the Melb lounge. The staff there is great.
Again no recognition on board. Headphones where distributed in cabin; since row 3 and 4 dont have in-seat screens we expected a digiplayer (usually happens). But we got nothing. Weren't even asked. Strange!
The service is inconsistent. The rows without the in-seat screen usually get offered the player when the live2air etc. is inclusive. Quite strange considering that most of us were platinum. I remembered not having status and still got offered the player - since there was no in-seat screen.

Inconsistency in service is my major problem. Like Virgin and love their ground staff. Crew in the air: hit and miss at the moment. Wish they knew their guidelines (hope there are...).

Only recognition I got yesterday was on my SYD/BNE flight when the FA came to me and asked if I wanted anything from the menu.

Not having flown in Y recently I mumbled "no". Well I had just been to clients who had cooked a traditional Haka Chinese meal - I was lucky guest of honour. Doing it again in 4 weeks :D

Hopefully will get some recognition tomorrow night in J on BNE PER currently 1/24.

PER-MEL (on XFA *shudders*) on Sunday:
"Welcome back to Business Mr drewbles" (at the door) and a very concerted effort to make me feel welcome by the crew looking after me. Got a little more attention than other pax (it seemed) and I was called by name more than the others (Despite me having an apparently difficult surname).

Apart from the awful hard product, it was a great flight. Was offered a Galaxy Tab as the loop IFE wasn't working (thankfully! I hate that system) but the selection under 'TV Shows' was truly awful (you know it's bad when Joan Rivers Fashion Police is the best thing on it).

The flight to PER was un-eventful though.

Flew J SYD-PER on Sunday in A330. Apart from the "Welcome back" at the door, no other special treatment. They even forgot to give me a menu and amenity kit till they tried to take my meal order and I had no idea what was on offer! :D

all my VA flights have been the regular 'welcome back', and on one MEL-SYD a few of us in row 3 and 4 got some LM pasta salad thing despite being on only a saver.

My last codeshare on AKL-SYD on NZ metal had an FA come down, introduction, handshake and handing out arrival Express Passes to status members (SG at moment)

Flew J MEL-SYD last night as a WP and got a bottle of red congratulating me on my recent move from SG to WP - a very nice touch if you ask me.

Wondering how they would know that you've recently upgraded? Might have to take a flight now I've gone to WP.. ;)

My flights on the weekend, received a welcome back but to be honest the service was that good I couldn't care how I was welcomed! :D

I found it strange too and was wondering how the CS knew...but wasn't complaining as he gave it to me as I was getting off the plane in SYD (having asked me whether I preferred red or white on descent).

Didn't get any special treatment on my flights on Monday (BNE/MEL/BNE), but then again, wasn't expecting any - I was already in J

On my flight fromLAX to SYD last week in economy. Got the usual welcome back.

Then got given alook at the menu and had my food delivered prior to the general rounds goingaround for both Dinner and Breakfast.

At the end of theflight, a crew member had a chat about the best way to get onto my connectingflight etc. and also handed me an express pass (which a whole heap of peopleseemed to have as well judging by the size of the line)

Had a pleasant male CS last week who greeted me by name and said "I assume you've done this lots so let me just thank you for flying VA and keeping me in a job"! I had a nice chat with him (told him that ATRs suck as he had yet to fly on one to experience mediocrity in all it's horrid glory) and generally found him to be funny, sincere and I actually believed he enjoyed his job.

Flying QF BNE - MEL last week in Y and stewardess came up to me and, after noting that I fly with them a lot, asked me if I'd like something special to drink. The complimentary G+T went down very well. A nice touch, but the first time it has happened. Usually, it' s just the offer of a paper. Very rarely, they'll offer to take my jacket.

On a recently A330 (J) flight the stewardess asked me "Hello Sir, have you flown Virgin Australian before?" :!:
hmmmm- surely they have some passenger documentation ?

I recall being asked a similar question (as a Red, mind you) - but it was actually "have you flown with us on the A330 in business before?" to which I said yes (but should have said no - as I hadn't flown the new config and it took a while to settle in!)

Perhaps you misheard the FA?

That might have been the only difference here, they talked to the J passenger first then rushed over to 5F. Then it took forever for the Y service to commence. But at least 5F had his drink and food.

It's actually all about who sits in 5F. Try that next time.
