No J classics online / JASA costs [temporarily] jumped dramatically

Equally SYD-HKG.
Were various dates with 80-85k JASAs in August - either direct or via SYD/MEL/PER.
Now all 500k+

All Classic award availability has disappeared in August.
Still some Classic Award availability in July, but at standard ASA pricing.

There are no classic awards listed SYD-MEL on qantas.com, however, they are bookable on the phone. The price for a JASA's on any flight is ~77,000, whereas before, when there as before it was ~21,000 upward.

EDIT: **Frequent Flyer service centre recognise the problem and expect prices to drop down 'within hours'**

I would've thought that there doesn't necessarily need to be Classic level priced ASAs even if there still exists Classic availability.

If such a relationship really did exist then of course you would need to be a little bit off the keel to book the Classic rather than an ASA.

It's probably more stark when you take buckets into account (more prevalent for Y), since you can have no low bucket fares left but still Classic availability (and oddly vv.)

Of course, a WP can - for the Assistance Fee - have a decent chance of opening up a seat whenever they like, but that award would nominally be regarded as a Classic one, not an ASA.

While there is nothing that guarantees it to be so, it is certainly my experience that a classic priced JASA and J classic availability go hand in hand with each other (at least domestically).

JASA costs jump dramatically

ASAs are always more expensive than a classic award, requiring either more points or a higher cash payment. But when there are classic awards available that difference is minimal and the ASA will booking in the classic fare bucket. For example, I recently grabbed a few classic awards ADL-SYD with the 30% discount. I paid 8400+$16. As an ASA I could have had it for something like 12000+~$50. A normal classic award would be 12000+$16.

If there is no classic award the cost starts to go up as it converts a standard paid fare, so last year I did a YASA on this route with no classic award availability and it was [can't exactly remember] something like 12000+$70.

In terms of classic awards and paid fares there is no connection as classic awards have their own fare class. So people could buy up the cheap fares and if no one purchased an award then there would still be awards available.

Melbourne-SYD return is nearly 150 000 points so I think something is definitely stuffed.

I used to get these for about 40000 I think if I remember correctly.

Either broken or one hell or an enhancement!

Looking at some non random mid week BNE-SYD-BNE awards, there is no regular J awards anywhere to be seen.

Looking at some flights 31-May.

DRW-ADL-SYD is available for 23,979 in YASA.

DRW-ADL is 20 and ADL-SYD is 15 to get 35 SCs for Y isn't too bad.

Not all flights are the same though ADL-SYD is QF766 is classed as refreshment and QF774 is Meal as Dinner.

There is DRW-ADL-MEL-SYD for 25,000 regular award 25,000 points but doesn't appear to be available as a YASA, I wonder if you can create your own random JASAs.

Now if you want DRW-ADL-SYD as a JASA then it would be 200,037 points and that is one of the cheaper options.

Nothing like leaving bookings to the last minute.

Who will be the first to see the J awards reappear.

Surely not related to this?

Qantas will increase the fuel surcharge on domestic flights redeemed using Frequent Flyer points by $10 on domestic flights and by $20 on trans-Tasman flights.

Damn Murphy, this always seems to happen - let the classic award sale pass by in the hopes of booking a JASA during the potential April Double SC promo once again to be snookered! Here's hoping that such a promo appears before April 28!

I'm glad I just rang markis10 and he alerted me to this thread. I was looking at JASA either BNE/PER or PER/BNE for next week and was having a heart attack at the prices (not having searched or done a booking before).

I think I'll have to wait for the fix to be done, or fly on JQ or DJ . Hmmm, hurry up QF

Back in June last year, I booked a JASA for DRW-ADL-SYD for 36000 pts + ~$121 each for this very date for the two of us!!

I can see no J classic award availability PER-JNB (either QF or SA flight number) or HKG-PER (QF or CX) in March or (up to 6) April next year.

I phoned QF and the agent said she could see J classic awards on pretty much every day in her system. She then logged into my frequent flyer account and replicated what I was seeing. I then searched classic J MEL-SYD 15 November. She had wide open availability; I had zip on any flight (in fact, nothing on any flight on any day in November).

The agent has reported it.

What, no meet a moderator in Perth this time?

Be patient Reggie ;), booking over has been made (QF J award using AA points) and now just tieing up client appointments (one of which needs to be at night). I'll do a separate thread.

I'm hoping that for my return flight that the QF JASA issue has been rectified (ie tomorrow would be nice QF )

This would be a good opportunity for a QF rep to step in and tell us what's happening. :-|

Im glad I read this thread, I only learned about JASA fares 2 days ago after reading another thread then thought I was using the ASA part of the QFF site wrong as all of the points prices were so high

Got a few SYD-HK and SYD-PER trips coming up so hopefully can book my first JASA if the system comes right

Just spoke to a fantastic lady at QF Premium desk...

She advise the pricing department have temporarily blocked all Business and First awards online. Aparently from 3pm today (20APR11) they should be able to come back and book online.

My only concern is if pricing are involved are they escalating or increasing the cost of the any seat awards???

Hope not...
