New safety brief on QF

The demo was probably played in French as well because the CSM thought being a Air France codeshare there is a good chance of a few French speakers onboard. Every aircraft has every demo in every language that it is made in, so if a manager thinks playing the demo in another language could be beneficial, there is nothing to say they cannot. I've quite often had an asian version of the demo played on Auckland-Sydney flights for tour groups returning home. During the pope's I recall the Italian version being played regularly too.

Thanks for that. It makes sense, and my mate was sitting next to some French speakers, so probably benefical for them.

I remembered today that I thought "ask the cabin crew what the reason was" but far too much Shiraz was consumed for me to remember to ask ;)

Cheers.

Has the new safety video been rolled out onto all aircraft? I do not remember seeing this new safety video on any of my recent flights on the 767s, 747 or A330. It is still the old style safety video with the checklist. Unless I am not paying attention even though I am watching and listening.

A lot of research went into the design on the new seat belts and concluded that in an emergency, passengers natural reaction to release the belt was to push a button, like on a car, not lift a buckle.
Oh dear! Is it really that difficult? Lifting a buckle is just as easy as pushing a button. Even in an emergency I think most people would realise they are in an aircraft and not a car....

Have you been in any flight emergencies?

I have heard about that research for a long time and seems perfectly reasonable and believable to me. Yes, they have been told, but in a panic situation people react to doing what they are most used to doing rather than thinking clearly. It is the exact rationale why changes were made to some training which I deliver ( not aviation )

Any one else actually remember what the auto seat belts were like in the 1960's?

I actually have more issues with the #@&%( button release...

I've been on a 330, 767 737 and all have the new safety video. this is all within the last month.

So there you go. I do not remember the new safety video which means I am not paying attention.

John & Dave,

For the record I have been in quite a few inflight emergencies.

You don't even need to go as far as emergency situation. I've seen pax get all messed up with life jackets and seat belts when encountering an unexpected or unusual situation. Being normal humans, some of them get flustered by the strange surroundings and simply get it wrong. Heaven forbid what they would do in a real emergency. The only thing that really hammers the message home is the message of repetition. (My experience is aviation based)

So there you go. I do not remember the new safety video which means I am not paying attention.

Naughty JohnK!!! perhaps your punishment should be to watch it 100 times.

I must remember to pay attention to the safety video on my next flight.

I must remember to pay attention to the....

"Hello Again ..."

My first hearing of it was back in November, travelling back from LAX. Being in an exit seat I did not see the video, only heard it.

Since then I have seen it many time, a it's a pain.

Do I know you?

Meh its a safety briefing, its neither here nor there I don't mind it - at least they take it more seriously than some other airlines flying around who still occasionally like to try and rhyme and giggle all the way through with no AV at all... ahem

QF has high loyalty and repeat customers therefore I assume the QF PR and marketing bunnies would feel it appropriate to say 'again' as a high % of people return the fly QF....

I thought that "Hello Again" thing was a bit odd, but nothing to get worked up about. I can excuse them that on the basis they reworded the "subtly every aircraft is different" into something more meaningful.

I am not sure if I have seen he new briefings or not. If I have I did not noticed.
For some insane reason I have always had to laugh at the brace position description when it says "And hold onto your feet" becuase the next line should be "You'll be needing those later".

But on the seat belt issue I flew J on 747 or 330 and ensured the seat belt had no twists in it. But that made the release flap against my belly. I puzzled on it for a while and then found I could remove the buckle and fit it the correct way round. Any one else had these situations - and why is the belt buckle PAX removable.

That's rather strange, I was under the impression that a seat belt is supposed to have a twist (or half twist) it in for proper operation.

As for car type harnesses being more familiar. When my car and i got washed away in a flash flood, I totally forgot to unbuckle when it came time to exit the vehicle. I can't see that changing the type of belt is going to improve things much on an aircraft.

Lucky_man,

The removable buckle is an FAA certification requirement for ease of removal for repairs and maintenance. They are sufficiently difficult to disuade the average punter from removing them without purpose.

I always think the same, but about when they say 'fit the mask to children' I always want to add 'and people acting like children'..
