Planning to drive from Portugal through spain to Granada

Spending a bit more time today on our December trip this year. Have decided to run. down my points so today I booked the Hilton Orchard with EL.
Leave’s only ~ 400 hhonors points.
Still have 650000 IHG points and with airlines down from over 1 million at VA, AA and SQ. to 500000 VA, 400000 at AA and 350000 at BA.

Flight to Yewrop is now 1 week from tomorrow … the world seems to be pretty consistently at about 3wks of jet-fuel reserve, chances of flight via Hong Kong being canned are pretty low … we have even made our meal choices!

Well, I've finally managed to rid myself of all my booked flights through the ME.

The last to go were Pegasus (refunded in a matter of days), Sri Lankan (refund took about 6 weeks), Aegean (just a couple of weeks) and a VA reward on QR. In each case the amount of refund received was equal to or more than what I expected.

All have now been replaced by flights on BA, avoiding the ME.

Just checked-in for our flight tomorrow, for trip to Zurich/Lausanne/Lyon/Strasbourg/Brussels/London ... as both of us have zero status, we decided not to wait to get to the airport to check-in due to my wife's experience about 7-8 years ago where she couldn't check-in for her flight to Montreal from Sydney 'cos she was on a flight from Seoul when electronic check-in became available (don't ask why that even happened - "government") so by the time she physically checked-in at the airport all the J seats in the replacement-aircraft were assigned to people with more Air Canada status than she had so she ended-up back in Y and the government got the refund so she didn't get anything at all out of being downgraded ...

As I posted elsewhere VA1 (SYD-DOH) is back tomorrow after an absence of a couple of months. Hopefully it will still be flying in August when we head off so I don't have to book those Air China tickets to Stockholm via Beijing. We're flying J so Mrs W would NOT be happy.

Only a week until we fly! And the Iran 'situation' hasn't gone away. Flights seem to be flying through but there are warnings and news stories trying to scare everyone lately.
Our Finnair flight from DOH to HEL got changed to a QR flight. Even though we are flying VA1 on QR metal I doubt we'll be able to book our luggage right through as they were separate bookings to begin with. Can't hurt to ask at check-in, given we're in J. Not a big deal either way, just want to get to Stockholm.
By coincidence a couple of friends (married) from my uni days will be in Portugal at exactly the same time. They will be doing the Portuguese Santiago de Compostela when we jet off to Madeira. Will be catching up for dinner when in Lisbon.

Back to Semester 2 and I was so thankful that I was able to fly 10 times in one month just past.

July 2026:
Japan
Thailand
Fiji

And 2 short trips to Shenzhen and of course Hong Kong.

Remaining trips in 2026:
September - Melbourne
November - Tasmania
December - NZ, Bali, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, China.

Hopefully I can cover up all the remaining SC required to 14000 by the end of 2027.

So I have added 6 nights at the IC Coogee in September.
And 6 nights at the CP Sydney airport before our Bangkok trip via Singapore. I left booking our SIN-BKK until a couple of weeks ago. surprise as I got a lifemiles award in SQ J.

The extra IHG nights get me to 40 nights and lounge access next year but will lose my diamond status.

As F1 have added a race in Malaysia (to replace the Bahrain race) I am heading to KUL for a weekend in October. Lucky to get some cheap points accommodation at the IC KUL, but not so lucky to only manage Y on points there and back.

Apart from the end of year trip we are flying to SYD middle of September to see family and try the IC Coogee.
But the real reason is to try out my new travel wheelchair. TRs will now be titled -Wheelchair Ron goes to ??

Our excursion to the UK and DE with stops each way in SIN (don't you love the sound of that) begins in a few days. QF1 on points, SQ for SIN-LHR-SIN, and SQ home at the end. First time for a long time that my luggage looks like @drron - shorts everywhere (but none of them quite as loud)!

We are venturing from the Red Centre to Margaret River tomorrow. We’ve packed the same gear we took to UK at Christmas! Perhaps I’m being too pessimistic? Looking forward to our first visit south of Fremantle.
