I think it would be useful to keep a record of board members' experiences checking in prior to 3 hours at the MEL F check in. Please include flight number, date, scheduled departure time and check in time.

Flight: QF93
Date: April 2012
SDT: 9:35
Check In: 6:05

F check in was closed when I arrived at 6am but the lights came on 5 minutes later.

Flight: QF29
Date: Nov 2013
SDT: 10:50am
Check In: 6:45

F check doors were deactivated - but lights were on. There was a staff member inside who opened the door and checked me in anyway. She told me they normally open 7:00am.

serfty, do you know please whether they stay open for the rest of the day once they're open (presuming there are more flights with F later in the day)?

We are connecting through MEL from a Dom to Int flight. Deciding whether to check bags through and take carry on to DFO whilst in Mel for 6 hours... OR... Check through to Mel, collect bags and checkin at the F checkin suite and hope they "mind" my carryon whilst I duck to the shops...

I believe they close First checkin for a couple of hours after QF93 departs.

You can OLCI with HLO and in theory go there as early as you want.

Thanks serfty! I'm feeling like we probably shouldn't bother turning up too early or we'll just be standing around the airport...

That would be very handy however I thought that the airline had to sight your passport before going through departures? If this is not the case then F lounge here we come :D

I'm pretty sure they do, however if the F check-in is closed you can still go to the normal counters with the great (SG/business class and lower) unwashed..

I got there early once for the last QF flight to AKL (155?) and at the F check-in they had to "open the flight" even though I had done OLCI because I was the first to present.

They'll check the passport at the lounge and even at the gate on boarding (red light) if they have not done the electronic 'tick off' that your travel documents have been checked.

Could well be my longest F lounge visit ever lol

I noticed the other weekend that the F check in closes between the morning AKL flight and the WLG. We had to wait til about 6.55am to check in..

I only elevated to WP after I moved to Canberra, which means my international travels have started by a domestic leg to MEL/SYD. This Sunday my flight starts in Melbourne. Where are the F checkins located in Melbourne airport (and Sydney airport for that matter)?

MEL First Checkin (if open) can be accessed from the kerb at the departure drop off level (NE end of T2) - you don't have to enter the terminal first.

Cool; thanks. I plan to get there by around mid day (for QF9), so hopefully they'll be open.

Cheers.

Check the departure time for QF93 ... as posted, they generally close F Checkin for a while after that.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about that. QF93 leaves at 11:20. Do they close on the close/departure of QF93 or a bit before (when the boarding is called for example)?
