3 hours into my midnight flight from Singapore to Sydney, I “realised” that I had left my $3000 laptop on the security gate conveyor belt…..
My dad left a nearly new phone in either GMP or ICN and they found it, but they said the only way to retrieve it was to go back in person.

Always quadruple check your booking on the airlines website, esp dep city and arr city, esp if you are just doing dummy booking, and also dates of travel, if you are playing around with dates.
Eg, AVV and MEL airports, do always check, on the QF and JQ websites, QF esp.

Wow
Dumbest travel mistake I’ve made in a while…

BUT - amazingly - it’s actually on its way back to me.
On the flight, a flight attendant sent a report to the airport, and I separately sent an email to the list and found office.
I’d given it up for dead, but 5-6 days later as I was getting into bed, I received an email from the airport staff saying my laptop had been found.
Come morning I started the process of getting it back.
Now - $185 later - it’s at the DHL facility in Sydney, passed customs, should be home on Monday.

Great lesson?
Lol
Make sure someone is at home, and its ATL, as is the standard practice post covid
Ordered something from ebay, $37.02, and the item has disappeared, shown on ebay as delivered, it was only a 4 box carton of cocobella mixed coconut 1 litre box of 4 box drins.

In Singapore quite safe . I saw this TikTok you can reserve a table in Singapore by place something on the table in hawker centre then people won’t take it .

But airport ahh probably tempting for a tourist to take it . That’s good you get laptop back !!

Very lucky

I think being the last or almost last flight of the day at that gate might have helped!

Maybe it's a CBR thing? 😂I've left my sunglasses on the security belt before. I loved them and couldn't see where to buy them again, so decided I'd fly from NZ back to CBR to get them and do it on the cheap. Thought I'd take the Qantas red eye from Melbourne back to Auckland because I thought NO ONE would be flying that - what a terrible flight! I'll probably get a row to myself! Next minute.... the flight was chocka and I was thinking "what's going on? It's like everyone's flying home for Xmas or something - that's how full it is!" It. Was. The. Worst! After much grumbling and thinking I realised that Sydney has it's curfew, Brisbane doesn't have late flights and Melbourne didn't seem to have that issue and Perth... well Melbourne is enroute so realised basically after a certain hour everyone in OZ gets funnelled through Melbourne if you want to get to NZ with a very late departure! I swore I'd never do it again but later.... got notice of a family emergency and that was my only option again to get out of Oz. I think I put in for an upgrade whilst transiting BNE as I just thought... I can't face that flight again without some comfort. Upgrade came through. Unfortunately that process meant my bags were dropped from my flight but I was warned that was a risk and I was like "I'll take it!" Landed in Auckland to a sign with my name on it and I knew immediately my bags didn't make it but Qantas got my bags to me in a few days as I had to be in central NZ. Thank goodness for cheapie shops like the warehouse and kmart or target etc to get me through. I think my travel insurance policy said something about only claiming if I was out of pocket by $500. Didn't want the hassle so cheapie stuff it is. I had more important things to attend than deal with travel insurance.

I know I've left my toiletries bag at the hotel in CBR as well as I woke to a text from VA my flight had been cancelled and I'd been rebooked on an earlier flight. The toiletries bag was on the hook on the door in the bathroom so I never saw it in my hurried packing. Don't think I flew back for that one. Must have got it sent to me or a friend to pick up from later.

So the whole trip was a mistake!

I wish I was as well travelled as my eBook readers. They have done several trips without me.

The first didn't make it after I had left it in the seat pocket more than a few times. With my more recent one, I've been fortunate that it got back to the airport where I had flown into and I picked it up there before departure. Another time, I was flying from Adelaide to Melbourne for a few days for work, and after leaving it yet again in the seat pocket figured I would pick it up from lost property in Melbourne. Nope, it has ended up in Brisbane and it cost me $80 to get it shipped home. Why not just buy a new one? That would mean admitting to MrsK that I hadn't checked the seat pocket properly before getting off.

My kindle was in the seat pocket of a train between Annecy and Paris. Never found. Luckily I had a zero excess so had a new one within 2 days
