Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Hi all,

I have a newbie question. This is my first time booking Qantas Classic Reward flight (Melbourne - Kuala Lumpur return).

I was wondering which lounge do I have access to at Sydney International Airport? (flying out on early December 2021)

Classic reward flight details:
MEL -> SYD: QF 448 | (Economy, business class sold out :/ ) | 14:00 - 15:25
Transit in Sydney for 6h 50min
SYD -> KUL: MH 140 | (Business) | 22:15 - 03:50
KUL -> MEL: (Business)

not sure if it makes any difference, but its all booked under a ticket (1 booking reference number)

Do let me know if i need to provide more details.

Thanks in advance! :)

(not sure i posted this in the right forum, do let me know if this is not the right place)

Hi there. At the moment, the only Qantas international lounge open at Sydney Airport is the First Lounge. (This is likely to remain the case until at least mid-December and possibly early next year.)

Ordinarily, an MH business class ticket would get you access to the Qantas Business Lounge. But since this is closed, Qantas is sending everyone eligible for that to the First Lounge for now.

This is assuming the First Lounge is open at the time of your flight. If there's another Qantas flight departing to LAX that evening, it should be open.

Hi Mattg,

Thanks for the reply!

Ohh thats nice. Okay, assuming Qantas Business Lounge is still closed AND there's another Qantas flight departing. I should be able to use the First Lounge with Classic Reward Business class (Class: U)?

May I know if there's anything i need to apply before hand to get access? Or do i just show the business class flight ticket on the day to get access?

Yep, any fare bucket in business class is fine. You are also able to use the domestic business lounge in MEL as travelling J on the SYD-KUL leg gives you access under One World rules.

Currently I believe the last QF flight departs around 20 minutes before a couple of other OW flights so do they turf you out to close up or let you stay?

Hi Jessica,

Ohhh didnt knew that, thanks for the info!
(was about to link one of the complimentary lounge access from CC)
Saved one pass there. thanks!

Do I need to apply for anything? Or just show the SYD-KUL business class ticket on the day to get access to MEL domestic business lounge as well?

btw, another newbie question. is "travelling J" an abbreviation of "travelling in business class"? and has nothing to do with the actual class (example: Class U = Classic Flight Reward Business)

Yea, you are right QF11 is departing at 21:55 on that day. My flight (MH140) is departing at 22:15.
I guess im cool with either outcome, probably got to be grateful if i get to use the F class lounge 🤞

im actually in bronze, so i guess they will probably flying side kick me out. jk 🤣

p.s: (learning so much from this forum, there's just so much information)

Nope, just have your boarding passes. And a cheery disposition when you remind them of the OneWorld rules that provide you access.

Yep - Y for economy, W premium economy, J business and F for first.

SYD -> KUL: MH 140 | (Business) | 22:15 - 03:50
The lounge opens 3 hours before an International Qantas flight.

In The first Week of December, MH140 is scheduled to operate Wed 1st, Fri 3rd and Sat 4th.

Currently, on those days, Qantas have international flights departing at the following times:

Wed & Fri: 6:30pm (LHR) and 9:55pm (LAX)

Sat: None (unless you count LDH)

Based on that, the lounge will not open on Saturday but on WED and FRI will be open between 3:30pm and 9:10pm. It may close for a short time after the LHR flight begins boarding at 5:45pm.

ohhhh... thanks for sharing! (i wouldn't have know that and would have thought the lounge will be open from morning till the last Qantas flight)

I will be flying on Fri 3rd.

Assuming they close for a short time for a break. Does that mean I can go in again after the break? Or only once?

Btw, how early do i get to check in at SYD? Can i check in after i land in SYD or there will be no counter open for me to check in? (e.g: can i check in at 4pm?)

Ordinarily you would check in and get boarding passes for all flights at MEL. If not then you are reliant on the time that MH check in opens in SYD.

Ohhh okay, i guess you use the word "ordinarily" because Covid might have change the process? OR it just random even pre-covid?

Should i use self checkin (mobile app / kiosk) at MEL airport OR go to counter to have higher chance of getting all the boarding passes?

You absolutely posted in the right forum. Ninety percent of people ignore this thread and create a new thread for each individual lounge access query which is unnecessary.

I actually posted it somewhere else, since i was new the post got into queue for approval.
And I believe some admin was kind enough to help me moved it the right place ✌️

...
Checkin with a person and ask to be checked in to all flights. If they say anything about the long transit (which I doubt) you can merely say that you wanted plenty of time to get through immigration and customs. ;)

ohh okay...thanks for the tips! (thats really helpful) 👍

And that would be required to check bags through to the final destination.

ohh.. actually thats even better if the baggage get straight to to final destination. one less thing to think of.
(gone with the pre-covid day, where we can just book a flight, pack clothe and off we go)

(now got to read the entry requirement couple of time to make sure didnt miss anything, fill up paper work X day before flight, download & register some apps, PCR test, etc etc...)

Hi all - I am flying BA in Business from EDI to LHR and JAL in first from LHR to HND. I will land at T5 and leave from T3. I also have about 4 hours in transit. My question: can I use the BA First Lounge at T5 (the only BA first lounge at LHR) and then go over to T3 later, maybe a lounge there as well. Will I be let in or refused ? Thank

You will be let in 😀
I'm not completely up to date but think the CX and QF lounges still closed
Some long walks at LHR so leave time to get to gate.

You cannot access any lounges at T5.
Arrivals and Departures are kept apart at LHR.
You will have access to the BA Galleries Lounge in T3 there are two wings to this Business and First (which you will have access to).
I don’t know when the other Lounges at LHR QF, CX and AA are going to open.
I have a JL F flight from LHR myself in April so keenly watching this space.
