Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

I dont think this is what they are referring to. There is an Alitalia status match offer at the moment that in theory is eligible to VA status holders

Apologies Pooch. Missed the line where VA points were mentioned. This would seem to refer to the syd to heathrow fligts which are likely to be on EY or VA. Howver an Alitalia card should give lounge access

Flights on Alitalia metal won't earn for VA even if they are EY coded (as they sometimes are).

Re: I'm in the QF Lounge thread

Does anyone know the rules for accessing EK lounges when flying QF business without status. Would QF J allow access to the EK lounge in AKL, for example?

Turns out there is no lounge access when the EK lounge is closed. Who knew it didn't open until 14:00.

Just to clarify - Flying EY with the VA FF number printed on the boarding pass (so I can get VA SC's). Question was surrounding the use of an Alitalia card for lounge access, without having to change the FF printed on the boarding pass, and thus losing the applicable SCs. Seems it should be fine to do that.

I am sure an Alitalia card with appropriate status should give access to EY lounges as Alitalia is now an EY partner (and investment).
However I cannot find confirmation of this on the Alitalia site - only confirmation of access to Skyteam lounges.
Anyone have a link to such confirmation?

I received this in an e-mail from Alitalia.

Among the main benefits offered by the Freccia Alata Plus Club, you can enjoy:
  • Qualyfing miles* each time you fly with Alitalia, the SkyTeam Partners and the Etihad Airways Partners.
  • Exclusive Bonus of 100% more milesby flying with Alitalia, the SkyTeam Partners and the Etihad Airways Partners.
  • Access to the Alitalia, SkyTeam and Etihad Airways Partners Lounges, where you can check-in at the dedicated counters and relax while waiting for your flight.

Thanks, I should read my emails more carefully.

Hi all,

Flying CBR-MEL-AUH-MAD-AUH-SYD-CBR, VA flight on EY metal as VA Gold.

From what I can tell (from the Virgin website) I should get access to:
CBR - Virgin domestic lounge
MEL - Air New Zealand International Lounge
SYD - Virgin domestic lounge
AUH - EY Al Rheem lounge
MAD - ?

Can anyone confirm the above (or provide advice on alternate lounges I can have access to), and advise if I have any way to get access to a lounge in MAD?

Cheers.

Hi all

I am travelling from New York to Sydney next March on Qantas. I am an Admirals Club member. As the Admirals Club in JFK is in Terminal 7 (Qantas leaves from Terminal 8) I am wondering if I will be able to access the BA lounge in Terminal 7, which Qantas uses.

I'm guessing it's a no, but just wanted to check.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers
Maddy

Hi Maddy,
You won't be able to access the BA lounge as an Admirals Club member.
The only lounges you'd have access to are the T8 AC

If you are flying J, then you will be able to access the BA Lounge.

I wanted to see if i am understanding the OW rules correctly and what peoples experience is

So im Travelling QF SYD to LHR in J. Arriving T3
Connecting to BA LHR departing T5 to VCE in Y. All on the same pnr.

https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access
If i am reading the OW rules correctly.
Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
  • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
  • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
As i have a J long haul flight with a OW carrier (QF) that will allow me to get access to the BA T5 lounge in LHR on my LHR to VCE flight even though im in Y.
Anyone confirm this or have been able to get in to a lounge using this rule?

Yes this is correct. Be prepared to explain this to the BA staff at T5. Personally I would have the One World access rules ready to hand just in case.

Yes. The rule generally works pretty well (like in HKG for example). As PF says - I would carry a copy of the rules for BA and LHR.

I think the same works for us connecting from JAL F to BA J. But I like the idea of carrying a copy of the rules just in case.

Works for any OW connections.

Individual OW airlines will usually have slightly more generous rules for their own customers. For example connecting CX F (short haul) to CX J/Y (short or long haul) will allow access to the FCL in HKG.

'cept there's a long running thread on FT where the BA staff at LHR often get it wrong with such connections. (Especially when connecting between Club/First lounge haul and domestic economy only flights.)

Will be connecting at LHR, coming in from Japan and flying out to Rome. So will be interesting...

I have seen that. TBH I didn't understand the issue, and didn't really see the connection. IIRC there seemed to be a lot of posts regarding connections from short-haul intra-Europe to domestic 'business' (ie economy)?

But I agree - for BA and LHR, I'd be carrying the rules! :)
