Good morning,

I'm a WP. I'm traveling with my wife and 2 year old daughter in December. We are going MEL-LAX-IAH. All flights are QF flight numbered. The LAX-IAH and return leg are operated by AA

I have two questions:
1) Can we access the international first class lounge in Tom Bradley whilst waiting for our flight to Houston or can I only access
2) I'm allowed one guest. Does QANTAS count my two year old as a guest (i.e. will say I can't bring both my wife and daughter in with me)

Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Scott

I believe the QF LAX lounge in TBIT is for departures only, you'll have to use the AA lounge in T4 while waiting for your flight to IAH.

Re: your daughter, I'm honestly not sure, but I thought there were allowances for infants not counting as +1's.

TBIT is just another terminal, there is no outgoing immigration control, so you will be able to access the lounge given your next flight is on a OW carrier.

Qantas don't generally count children as guests so I would expect you'll be ok.

Interesting! Do you mean the OP would land at LAX, collect bags, clear immigration/quarantine, then re-enter TBIT airside to get to the lounge? Or head straight to the lounge on landing, leaving bags to circle?

I've never tried, but would have thought if you tried to enter a terminal (TBIT) other than the one your next flight was leaving from (T4) that the security check point would turn you back?

Usually they recheck your bags after passing customs. We'll have no problem getting into the TBIT, just wondering if QANTAS would only allow you in if traveling internationally. Here is where LAX announced you can enter TBIT even if travelling from another terminal twitter.com/flyLAXairport/status/509094283161239553

Thanks for the tip on the children. I found the page on the QANTAS site showing my daughter isn't counted as a guest.

Scott

You just have to be flying from LAX, the TSA don't necessarily know which terminal you're flying from. I believe an airside tunnel is being opened (or maybe already is?) between a couple of terminals at LAX so it's clearly allowed.

The lounge access rules are here. It's just the standard conditions about "next onward flight", nothing about that flight having to be international.

Of course you may get a lounge dragon with differing opinions but the published rules at least allow it.

Sorry to jump in on your thread.
We are flying J SYD to LAX and then onward to NYC in Premium Economy.
Can we access the Business lounge between flights?
Flights are both with Qantas.

Not unless you have Gold status or above, or a Qantas Club membership.

Hmm, do oneworld rules apply if it's Qantas->Qantas and a Qantas lounge?

Yes
Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. First Class passengers may use a Business Class or frequent flyer lounge if a First Class lounge is not available.
First Class passengers may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. The guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline.
Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

Your daughter is not counted for lounge access. Minors who require adult company are not counted as +1.

IME no problems accessing the QF F Lounge at LAX showing an AA BP for a domestic flight departing T4. As opusman and others have said your 2 year old isn't counted as a guest.

Lounge access - oneworld

Thanks Princess Fiona. I'll make sure I have the necessary printouts ready.

Until May last year PAX were supposed to have BP for a flight departing the terminal they were accessing - as indicated, that has changed.

Note that there are some pretty good showers at the T4 flagship lounge if that is all you are after.

In any case, I would not be departing TBIT any time later than 75 minutes before the scheduled departure of time of your IAH flight (& 90 minutes if from a gate 44).

No trouble for us accessing the QF J lounge on an AA BP for T4 either. The checker at security did point out that our flight was T4 but no issue otherwise with TSA or QF.

Aaaargghhh!!!

I'm so glad I joined AFF - I never stop learning. The last three times to the US on QF were J with onwards connections in F on AA. I had no idea LAX had a flagship lounge that we could have had access to, and the Admirals Club door persons certainly didn't go out of their way to tell us, even though they insisted on printing us new AA boarding passes (with TSA precheck! - not much use once you're in the Admirals Club airside).
