I have a few questions about this.

1. My family of 4 are booked SYD>LA return in December with Delta. We have paid for our tickets and received etickets x 4 and a confirmation number with which I have made online seat reservations. I am interested in joining their frequent flyer scheme and understand I have to join all 4 of us ie the children cannot "piggyback" on their parents' membership.

Herein is a small problem. The Delta programme is called Skymiles and the application to join is on their site. Easy. However, the last line of the application requires a PIN Number which I don't have. I have wasted 3 weeks and 4 emails to Delta online support to ask how to go about joining up and/or acquiring PIN Nos. so I can complete the applications. Suffice it to say the support provided has not filled me with great confidence that we've chosen the right airline to fly with. Suffice it to say that each of the 4 replies has simply linked me to the online application page and not answered my query.

So I am hopeful that the helpful folk here can assist. As I say, I have an eticket with 4 ticket nos, and a Delta Confirmation No. [which won't activate the PIN, I've tried] . The last reply had this "helpful" information
We are unable to locate the SkyMiles membership number based on the information provided. Please verify the number on your SkyMiles
identification card or a previous statement. If you cannot verify your
SkyMiles account number, please resubmit your request along with your
current address and any previous address that may be listed on your
account. This will assist us in locating your account number in our
system.
Which rather begs the question!

2. If, or when, I ever manage to acquire membership, is anyone aware of any current bonus offers eg points or club membership etc

3. Finally, who are Delta's partners ex Australia with whom we can utilise points later?

Many thanks.

I believe on the application form you just make one up, enter it in both boxes and remember it for future use. They don't give you one, you tell them what it is.

Thanks for the reply oz-mark.

No, I have tried that, several times, several variations - but get an error message "The information entered for PIN below is not valid."

I can't post URL's [as a new member] but if you go to SkyMiles Enrolment page and select Get Help, there is no assistance at all.

Any other ideas? Thanks.

What length number are you entering for the Personal Identification number and are you entering the same number in both PIN fields? The PIN has to be 4 digits in length

I have looked at the page and it definitely looks to me that they are asking for you to set a PIN rather than asking for a specific PIN

Bingo David! You got in one. I'd been trying various PIN's but not a 4 digit one. Thanks also oz_mark. A pity Delta support didn't just say so.

Any views on the other two queries?

For partners ex AU, Continental and Hawaiian would seem to be the 2 other than DL that I can tell

Continental will be leaving Skyteam on 24/10.Korean are another skyteam member ex-Austr.Vietnam Airlines has been invited to join so will be another option.

There's also the upcoming Delta/V Australia transpacific partnership which IIRC will also encompass FFP linkages.

Is that likely to result in being able to use Delta FF points with VA?

Also, can the FF points be used with, say, Hawaiian or only Delta?

I ask because I chose Delta only because it was the best fare available at the time. But it flies out of Sydney; whereas I live in S-E Qld so am more interested in being able to utilise points in future on airlines ex-BNE if I can.

Finally, does anyone know if I can consolidate points for family members to one account with Delta?

Many thanks to the helpful folk who have responded - a great forum!

Thanks
