"Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

I specifically picked a 7PM flight instead of 6 to experience Island Dining in MEL. Although placemats were set there were no menus. I asked a waitress who said it "starts at 6:30 or 7?" I asked her if it was 6:30 or 7 and got no response!

The in flight meal (a proper meal on a tray) was paste with pea and ham and had almost zero flavour.

Pasta with pea and ham where the peas are overcooked, the sauce is a paste and generally it is carp?

It would be a shame if it has moved to 6:30 - wonder if the pretzels have vanished too...

I sat at the island because I saw placemates and cutley, but the lack of menus was telling. IMO, Island Dining should start at the same time that dinner flights do, i.e. 6PM.

I rarely eat the meal on QF DOM in Y, other than the wraps, rolls, pies. The tray is coughbersome, and the food in the J Lounge is always superior.

It certainly hasn't changed in SYD. I've managed to get the dish for the last couple of weeks when on a 6:40pm departure. Meal out at about 6:10pm

Long time lurker, first time poster...

Tonight I was pounced upon my a BNE J lounge staff member, before I had pulled the stool from under the island, and offered the following:

Hidden beneath the rocket was 2 anchovies, which probably explained why the staff member called it a "Anchovy Pizzette".

Great to know. Domenico told me there'll be something new for island dining in SYD next week.

Welcome, discomatty. However I can't get excited by a bun covered in rocket leaves and some parmesan. And some anchovies.

What's with Qantas and rocket at the moment?

oh yuk, anchovies! It's not very impressive. I like the concept though, with matching wine.

BNE last night was the smoked trout platter, though I missed out as I didn't get the staff member's attention in time after he started walking around the couches near to the bench offering them the menu :(

What time does Island Dining close in Sydney J lounge? Must have just missed it??

At around about 7 pm or so.

I believe it is going to be Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup. Probably something like phở I'd suggest.

Cheers, I totally forgot what he said. Shame I'm going to miss it. While I gormandised 2 of the Laska tonight, I was getting a bit over it.

Visited the dom J lounge at CBR tonight. On offer at Island dining was Malay style chicken laksa. I love laksas and I loved this one! Very nice flavour, wasn't a noodle soup, more sauce like, but I was impressed! They stopped serving it at 6.30pm though which I found perculiar. Perhaps they ran out?

Not island dining, but in the J lounge this afternoon ~4.45pm, they were coming around and offering chocolate ice cream - similar to what I've experienced in the int J lounge (although it has been over a year since I was there)

SYD Domestic J Lounge this morning were offering toasted ham, cheese and tomato relish sandwiches for breakfast island dining. The description on the menu sounded a lot more fancy, but once I realised it was just a toasted ham and cheese sanger, I passed... not that the scrambled eggs are much better. Is BNE J Lounge the only one to have those egg and bacon pastry thingys for breakfast? I'll have to get a photo next time. They are much better than the bacon and scrambled eggs served in SYD.
