Is there anyone who has never flown Economy Class

For the "never beens", the more interesting question then is, let's say you've been gifted a First or business ticket, or you've decided to spend all of your miles accumulated through hundreds of discount economy tickets for that rare first or business ticket. Do you sleep on the plane or stay awake the whole way to experience every second of it?

First couple of times long haul J, I stayed up the whole time and didn't miss a second, after a couple of flights I then started to sleep a little bit (it is a skyBED after all), then I started treating them as normal flights, albeit very comfortable normal flights.

i'm another that hasn't flown anything except Y. it doesn't matter domestically, 3-4 hours isn't worth paying the extra for (plus company travel policy is Y). international is the killer. i guess i know that once i fly J the first time it'll be extremely hard (if not impossible) to go back to international Y. just did a quick tally and i think i've done about 34 7+ hour sectors in Y. not necessarily fun when you're 6'5, but for me travel is worth it. and i've been fortunate to be very lucky with exit-row seating :) thanks to this website my next europe trip will be in J.. points balance accruing nicely.

Yes, once you know what the pointy end is like, it is really hard walking past them knowing what they getting compared to what you're in for over the next 14 or so hours

whY these days is a breeze........the days of the big screen hanging from the ceiling are long gone.

Not quite, there are still a few long haul flights which still run with the big screen. Luckily they are becoming pretty rare.

The fact is with USDM these days and their regular bonus promos, you can fly to the US in J for $2200 or a little more, and if you had the points in your account to jump in with the 100% share promo late last year you could actually do it in J for sub $2000 and probably do F for $2200 or there abouts.... So no need to pine for some long gone Y+ offer when you could be travelling now in even better classes... Y+ actually doesn't have much appeal for me and generally seems like a rip off for the little extra you get, so it will either be Y or J for me in the future...

Anybody over a certain age would surely have flown in Y at some point - back when flights were much more expensive than now it was all most parents could afford for their children.

I *try* never to fly Y but I have had a short-haul Y flight or two intra-Europe (can't remember where exactly now) either because there was no J/F available or it was very expensive. I have also had a couple of SYD-BNE or SYD-MEL in Y, but only when I was travelling with colleagues that were booked in Y. I've also upgraded quite a few so that I could sit up the front and not feel guilty ;).

My only ever medium/long haul Y was from SIN-SYD on QF. All the other international flights have been J/F. I agree with an earlier poster - everybody needs to do international Y at least once to realise why you shouldn't do it if you can possibly avoid it. :)

I made a conscious decision to alter my travelling style in July 2010. From that moment on, any travel to Europe or N.America (whch is where I normally travel to long-haul) will NEVER be in Y. 90% of my travel to Asia is also in J. And all self-funded too.
