Facebook yes - Twitter I also just don't get.

It doesn't do anything that FB doesn't. Eg. If I want to see my friends' status updates, I can see it on Twitter or I can see the same thing on Facebook plus a whole lot more.

Twitter only seems relevant for following celebs or companies.

I disagree somewhat...

Twit has given me basically direct tangible access to a QF or VA rep who has the ability to fix things. I have also used Twit to "speak" to Telstra 4G ppl, Hilton when I had issues and others.

It has a good side and a bad side, but I guess between Facebook and Twit, it's a 95/5% split respectively.

How do you Twit directly to these people (as opposed to post a public message)?

If they follow you, you can send a DM (direct message) which is private - a character count limited email kind of..

But they have to follow you first?

So..... I could just message them on Facebook, or just send them an email..??

Yes. The response is a hell of a lot quicker than FB or normal email (unless you have a direct address) though

Twitter certainly uses less bandwidth than FB (although it's getting more and more hungry).

It's a bit like texting ...

... FWIW, I despise retweets ...

Ok... Thanks.

I'm still trying to get my head around the whys and wherefores.

Cheers.

As far as I can see, it comes down to whether the presence is as a marketing presence, or as a customer support presence. In the case of Facebook, the QF and DJ presence seems to be more as a marketing exercise, while on twitter they have a more customer support presence.

I'm still struggling to see (use) Twitter for anything more than a Follow and Read tool.

I'm finding the most useful apps to me are those designed for my iPad - the extra screen real estate is just that more useful.

I've a Twitter account but rarely use it - the comments above are persuading me.
Similarly I need to take another look at FourSquare.

The non Standard Apple apps I use the most on my iPad are:

Kindle
USA Today
SMH
Scrabble
Boggle
Facebook
AFF
TuneIn Radio

v happy with my new iPad (3) btw.

The bit about Facetool that really gets me is why do people wanna bear their lives, heart and soul for the world to see?

I spend half my waking hours hiding the cough I do? I just don't get it.

My brother and his family live half a world away and it is so easy to keep them up to date with family stuff, especially photos. Invaluable

Paddy55, agree - a lot of my friends and family are in UK and USA, so handy to catch up with them via FB on my morning walk with the dogs.

My preferences are set to only update the people I want to update. The public get to see very little about me – which is the way I like it.

Totally agree

This too - minus the dogs :!: :)

If you’re not a friend on Facebook, or perhaps even a friend of a friend, my page should be fairly locked down too. But I realise there are countless others that haven’t or don’t know how to set privacy settings.
