Its what happens when you "live" in Brisbane but work is in Sydney. I have developed some odd habits, like travelling with my own iron, and my desk at work has it's own coffee machine :). Being away from home does force you to get out and meet some great new people, which I was lucky to have done last year, but of course that is one of the joys of travels. Early Monday morning wake ups, not so much joy.

Finished 2014 with 140 odd night at IHG in Australia, thought I would post an update on my preferences:

IC Sanctuary Cove - Pool or Marina view rooms are closest, love the club and restaurant. Suites are so so.
CP Surfers - The "executive" rooms at each floor end are brilliant, massive bathroom.
CP Hunter Valley - Love the villas, but the property has some quirks, good value if under $150.
CP Newcastle - Port side rooms, especially ones with a balcony, my son and I spend a few hours just watching the port movements and then tracking them online.
IC Sydney - Eastern rooms are the pick although some may prefer the northern rooms with many offering nice Quay views, the club is worth the money. Despite the ancient bathroom with shower in the bath, I always enjoy staying here.
IC Double Bay - Why oh why close the pool at sunset, any room is good here but with only 160, there are not too many options, village view is,once with its balcony.
HI Potts Point - the only IHG property in SYD with a guest laundry, go for a harbour view room. Popular with flight crew ;). If you stay and like Greek, a short stroll to Apollo is a must. No Pool.
HI Darling Harbour - Exec rooms are nice but no pool and a good walk to most locales.
HI Old Sydney - not a great Saturday night option wi the local pub crawls noisy and then the Sunday market setups, best left for the tourists.
HI Sydney- Quiet but dead area, and pool is really a spa bath in the basement.
CP Coogee - great locale for a holiday but noisy if ATC decide to load share the jets, go for an ocean room. And Coogee is not the same as Clovelly when your looking for the last bus of the night after AFF trivia with a few drinks .
HI Warwick Farm - nice but a WIP, will be better when renovations are done. Often cheap, quiet but rubbish internet.
HI Parramatta - One of the few businesses still trading in Parramatta outside of Westfield, close to trains and usually quiet, Platinums usually get a suite even on reward stays. Staff are very good.
CP Canberra - Nice with park room views the best.
IC Rialto - Exec rooms are nice but club is poor value.
HI flinders Lane - Nice bit watch the base room facing West, they are tiny.
CP Melbourne - Old and tired but locale is getting better.
HI Melbourne Airport - sometimes a good option when downtown is 2x the price, and is quiet.
CP Adelaide - soulless, but just around the corner from the mall.
IC Adelaide - Go the club, hard to get a bad room here and with it's three atriums very quiet, small pool and parking is expensive.
Hey Markis. Just wondering if you leave a review for each hotel you stay in? If the answer is yes, I'm sure you'd loose a couple of days a year.

Does anyone have experience with HI Makati? I normally stay at the IC Makati but the old lady is getting a bit tired, and with this being a reward booking then a lot fewer points to stay at the HI. It seems to get good reviews on TripAdviser etc.

Perhaps you and JohnK could swap homes or jobs and stop passing each other in the air each week ;)

They must be a WWE pair. Doing a mid-air changeover!

The big JohnK/markis10 showdown in the ring has been rumoured for some time now........(or at least if it hasn't, I just started it).

IME the HI Makati is quite a good comfortable property with most of the trimmings & significantly newer than the 1969 model Grand Dame IC across the road.
FWIW - Interestingly the IC Makati will cease to operate from 2016.

Thanks jetlagger.

Looks like I will need to add in a stay for 2 nights at the IC on this trip as well, final 2 nights before going to NAIA for the flight home as I am not sure when in 2016 I will manage to get back there. It will be sad to see it go, when you see the old photos of it dominating the corner of EDSA and Ayala and nothing around it. I have always enjoyed my stays there and always found the service really good. The basic rooms are very dated, and it is the upgrades to suites that more than make up for it. Once we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite, which was fairly impressive. I think I counted that it took up at least 14 normal rooms.

The IC still holds much nostalgic well being & will be sadly missed despite the antiquated smallish deluxe rooms & aged wear & tear. I still adore the location & the charming staff always look after me well during my stays.
I recently stayed at the CP Manila Galleria which was very lacklustre. In addition I tried the Sofitel which is also a great, though an ageing property.
The new recently opened MNL City of Dreams Hyatt which is an interesting alternative as well.

I stayed at the CP Manila Galleria as well last year and as you say not impressed, although it was a free upgrade from the neighbouring HI due my room developing a water leak on check-in day. I don't really enjoy Ortigas as it is so difficult to walk around. The Sofitel gets good comments from a friend, but rather remote and a nightmare to get a taxi from. My wife wants to try City of Dreams this year as well, but my oh my, what a website to try and make a booking, only the Hyatt is any where near customer friendly.

We always enjoy a few nights in Makati as a lot of my wife's ex colleagues work there so easy to meet for lunch or after work for them rather than braving cross Manila traffic.
