Folks, what are your opinions on the properties around Sydney CBD?

I've currently booked into the HI Old Sydney for a couple of nights, is the harbourview room worth it?

I've been thinking about moving the booking across to the IC, if I have a spare BOGO closer to the time I may do so

The IC wins hands down.
But don't book anything less than a club room. The club lounge makes the IC Sydney one of the best.
I have just spent another 4 nights there over Christmas and love it. The staff in the lounge are very attentive, know me by name and nothing is too much trouble.
(Kids are not allowed in the lounge after 5pm but evening drinks and canapes are served to families in the Cortile on the ground floor).

As an Ambassador, if you book a club city side you are upgraded to an eastern harbour view room which has a great view.

Thanks Fifa! You're well and truly convincing me to move across, that club view does look amazing!

Have you had much experience with Sanctuary Cove? I'm trying to figure out what would be the best time to head up there, We want it nice and quiet so that we can enjoy the lagoon with our little one!

I'm also wondering how good the club breakfast is? Something like the CP Canberra would be Great! I wish I could if gotten down more of that breakfast...... :D

Anytime there is no school holidays the SC should be fine (excluding the boat show), Feb is probably best. They have renovated the pool after the cyclone last Feb and its pristine, great for kids, my 5 year old loves it.

Just to expand on markis10's comment, we have been in school holidays and the lagoon and pool is still not busy (at least not while we were there last September holidays). Even the spa was fine although there were always people there, it was far from packed and having people around is also not a bad thing (just about all were parents and many eyes on kids in water makes for a safer time). As you most likely know, the lagoon is huge so beach space was never at a premium and deck chairs were always available.

As for breakfast, we didn't eat at the CP CBR so I cannot comment but the IC SC breakfast for us was taken in the restaurant (offered that in addition to the Club) and it was fine. Nothing spectacular but certainly enjoyable. The biggest issue (which in all honesty was not much of an issue anyway) is the place is very popular for weddings and we found the breakfast was very crowded and the coffees, if ordered immediately when you arrive, are delivered about dinner time.

The only IHG properties I can find in Taipei are 2 HI's but they don't look all that flash.

Has anyone stayed there or is there better value...HH don't have anything

They are both out of the way, the HIX being in an industrial area not far from the airport, handy if you need a brand for big win. If your looking at downtown, recommend either the Sheraton or Westin, the later across the road from a very famous Mongolian BBQ place that's a must do on the tourist map, alternatively have a look at Les suites and their two boutique hotels.

I must admit that the big win was a consideration but after reading your post that can wait.
Thanks for other options.
We have not been to Taiwan before and will be spending a few days there on the way to the US

Good Eve!

What experience do folks here have with the IC Wellington?

Looking at heading to Beervana with a mate in August and was wondering what Upgrade I might expect with a Basic twin room and if I could wangle Club access instead of an Upgrade?

It just seems that the Standard King Club is the 2nd highest level room and that they only have a few suites, if I booked the King Club and there are no Suites available how do they deal with a Guaranteed Upgrade?

Thanks!
Nate

I've stayed twice with two more bookings ( both BOGO's with AMB free nights) booked a king club for sept this year and already been advised of the upgrade to king club executive.
As for the hotel itself, I have loved the place and they are doing major renovations as we speak and should be finished in April

Hi bass_ke,

I'm not sure about the IC Wellington, but when I stayed at the IC Sydney a few months back, there were no room types above the room I booked. Instead, they offered me a rate reduction of $100/night.

Even as an IGH Platinum, we've never been impressed with the IC in Wellington and now choose other properties.

And Club access?

The room I had booked was already a club room so I did have access to the club - if not I would have requested that instead of the rate reduction.

I can't believe there are no IHG properties in BNE. I think there are only 3 in QLD

Townsville
Surfers Paradise
Sanctuary Cove

You forgot Cairns, and there are more coming, technically their are three on the coast.

But still none in BNE :?::confused:

That would require property development or a change of management contract, given the money changing hands for rooms in Brisbane mid week there is not much flux, the last change being over a year ago with the Old Holiday Inn while the four points is probably the first new four/five star chain managed hotel we have had in some time. Next new IHG property is likely to be a HIX in Brisbane unless the Sofitel becomes an IC.

I have a booking with the Four Points allready for the week they are to open. As for IHG properties, is this speculation or do you know something for certain. It would be good for them to return
