IHG Properties and favorite rooms

I know this thread is supposed to be listing the favourites but I have to share my experience at CP Melbourne last night. It was "memorable" enough not to go back there again. Entire place is so dated from the reception to the rooms. The wall between rooms so thin that I could clearly hear every conversation from the next room. I ordered in room dining and the chicken on the salad was like chewing pieces of thick cardboard :(

A disappointing stay. I think I recall reading here that CP MEL offers a far better experience than the IC MEL, but I have not experienced either to make comment. Better luck next time!

More likely the other way around, there is little to recommend for the CP.

Oh my apologies. Actually, I thought it was you who said that .

Was there a better IHG MEL property than IC?

EDIT: just found it.....HI not CP!

Yes, the one in the middle of the two, the HI, always great recognition and often good value, I have a stay there mid week in two weeks time for $130 odd dollars.

How do you folks rate the CP changi airport? Looks nice but very expensive, worth it?

Also has anyone stayed In any of the properties in Manila, specifically the IC?

Thanks!
Nate

I have stayed at CP Changi airport . It is nice, convenient & pricey.
IC MNL, have stayed 25+ times. One of my favourites. Grand Old Dame.
What do you need to know?
Cheers,

Its not pricy as far as Singapore hotels go, being comparable to downtown, and is very nice although the walkways being exposed to the elements was probably not the best idea.

Is it worth paying for the Breakfast at the CP Changi?

JL, what type of room do you prefer at the IC Manila? We aren't planning to spend too long in Manila before heading to Boracay.

Is it worth going for a club room and how generious are they toward Ambassadors?

Thanks!
Nate

I have stayed in most of the room types at IC MNL.
The standard rooms are small & very underwhelming.
At the very least I would book a club room, as you know as a amb. you are guaranteed an upgrade to next category.
It may be a larger room or a suite - depends on their occupancy.
It used to be one of the busiest hotels in Makati, along with the Shang. & Peninsula.
Nowadays the new hotels in close proximity have taken some of their corporate business which evidently frees up the premium rooms.
IME Weekends usually provide better upgrade options.
The club lounge is large & pleasant & quite with reasonable offerings.
The location of IC MNL is what I always enjoyed the most, as well as security & consistent quality & recognition, with relative easy access to all air terminals.
It is an older property, despite of how it appears on any photograph - perception is different to the reality as far as the hard product is concerned.
Hope that satisfies some of your curiosity.

Where are you planning to stay in Boracay?

Thanks for the tips, it certainly helps! We are staying on a Sat/Sun and I'm planning to use my Ambassador BOGO as well

I've no idea where we are staying in Boracay, I've had both a Filipino friend and a good mate recommend heading up to El Nido but that's as far as I've gotten research wise.

We will be travelling with a 2 year old who is used to travelling but probably still not going to be ready for any minivan epics across the countryside.

Looking at your location I can see that I might be picking your brain a bit about the Philippines!

sorry OT, what are the newer hotels in MNL?

i have always received good service in Phil. Agree the IC must be a old hotel but has aged gracefully.

Your welcome.. Happy to help. Spent lots of time in Philippines & have family there, so should be well versed to assist. :D
Sure you should avail your BOGO for the IC MNL.
El Nido in Palawan is very nice, another of my favourites.
I'm sad to say that I really don't enjoy Boracay much these days.. Way too commercialised for my likings, a paradise lost to development compared to the way I knew it 15 years ago.
Price of progress - I guess & greedy opportunists, without sustainable environmental & cultural well being.
But don't let my soured values of Boracay detract from your planned visit... See it, experience it.
Palawan is gorgeous when the weather is favourable & off centre from the tour group trail.. which is nice.
I still love the Philippines, its natural, historical, cultural attributes & distinct differing regions always hold high appeal as a destination.
You will enjoy, I know & it would be a wonder & lovely travel adventure for your 2 year old. Filipinos cherish kids, & are charmingly hospitable.
Cheers,
jl

In Makati such new hotels as:

Fairmont
Raffles
Holiday Inn

I haven't stayed any of the above yet though. Will try them out soon enough.
Always return to IC or Pan Pacific, for both service is always lovely.
Cheers,
jl
