Hi Folks,

I'm reasonably new to IHG Properties and thought I'd ask you folks for advice for a couple of upcoming stays

I've got a King Club coming up at the CP AKL, how do you find the club and hotel itself in AKL?

I've got two stays coming up at the HI in MEL but I'm considering swapping one over to the IC, what is your favorite room in the IC MEL?

Do any of you have experience with room types at Sanctuary cove? looking to book a couple of nights with BOGO soon!

Thanks for your help and feel free to share experiences about other hotels as well!

Nate

Here is my take:

HI Cairns - has one suite so good luck getting that, Plats normally get upgraded to an Oceanview room, quite relaxing sitting on the small balcony watching the world go by (or the odd German backpacker thinking the mud is not that deep). The esplanade has BBQs, head to Woolies for supplies and you can have a BBQ breakfast with million dollar views on the cheap (pack a Barbiemate)

HI TSV - the suites on the top floor are nice but west facing ones struggle with air con, no real bad rooms but the suites are rarely much more than a normal room.

IC SC - rooms are all much of a muchness, club does not allow kids during drinks, but its a great resort, pick of the eateries is actually the pool bar although breakfast is good.

CP Surfers - Any room is OK, lifts can get slow, breakfast on Sundays in the revolving restaurant is OK.

IC Sydney - Any room so long as you have club access.

HI Old Sydney - Any room unless its got street frontage on a weekend, the drunks keep you up.

HI Potts Point - The suites are good and often value for NYE if booked early enough.

HI Darling Harbour - No real favourite rooms.

HI Airport - Nil favourite.

CP Coogee - Go the Ocean View

CP Newcastle - Any suite with exec access and port side, watching ships go past is somewhat hypnotising.

CP Hunter Valley - The villas - rooms are small and can have a long walk.

IC Melbourne - Avoid, very stingy on upgrades, club sucks and rooms mostly are small, the Suites are nice including the Courtyard and Turrent but hard to get, the showers in the suites are awesome but you pay for it.

HI Melbourne - Hotel looks after elite guests with Suite upgrades, better value than the IC.

Crowne Plaza - Always feel like I am on a ship, rarely good value.

HI Melbourne Airport - Good value, again rooms much of a muchness, Presidential suite was nice but its been downsized.

CP Adelaide - Swish but small rooms.

IC Adelaide - Love the club and have some very nice suites, probably the number 1 IC for me in Australia.

CP Perth - Old hotel where staff try hard - always a good stay, rooms with view better.

HI Perth - Similar to CP, good service, rooms average.

CP Canberra - Expensive, upgrade is often a park view, not much competition from chains.

That's just about got them all wrapped up! Thanks for the insights.

I had the pleasure of staying at the HI Townsville on a work gig the day after TC Yasi, considering windows and A/C were destroyed when we arrived they did a great job looking after us!

Does the HI Melbourne look after Gold's with the odd upgrade as well as Plats? I don't think I'll be making IHG Plat prior to my stay but if my comped status from VA comes through in time I'll be Gold.

What are the locations of the Perth properties like? I've got two week's next year and was looking at the CP Suite with a BOGO but it does look kinda tired in the pictures, might be worth saving for the Sydney IC

Rather interesting markis, but in general, have to agree. Haven't stay at them all but in general your assessment is ok

I quite like the CP in AKL the location is good for pretty much everything in downtown AKL. I staid in a corner Club lounge in March and it was absolutely fine. The Club Lounge is a bit on the small side and did not have any wifi. (Do yourself a favour and buy a prepaid data sim whilst you are in NZ)

Having said that I also stayed for a couple of nights at the Hilton, I am a diamond with Hilton and platinum with IHG, and The Hilton is extraordinarily good......only lacking an exec lounge.

Just stayed at IC SC (most of my stays with IHG are overseas in North America and Europe). Upgraded to the Homestead Suite which is charming. The key at this property is not to face the lagoon (i.e. face the Marina in the Raphis section) as there was constantly weddings on so it can be loud in to the evening. As an aside, they are still renovating the Lagoon at IC SC so the pool was rammed.

This should prove to be a useful thread to get an update on properties - great idea.

For a first timer to Perth and indeed WA which property in Perth would you recommend?

We'll most likely spend two nights on the way in and two on the way out, also travelling with a car.

Thanks
Nate

The HI Perth is better located it seems but much more expensive.

What's the walk into town like from the CP and is there much around it?

The CP is in town but close to the WACA with a nice outlook over the swan, a walk to the HI would take around 15 minutes.

Would you reco, end the river view king over the king deluxe spa? It's only a$10 difference when using a BOGO

Either would be fine, or put the BOGO away and use the special which is 30% more!

Great assessment Markis10, very helpful!!

Is anybody else currently having trouble getting to the IHG website? I couldn't login last night and the sight has been down for maintenance since early afternoon

I just did three bookings five minutes ago.

Bizarre! I can't even login from the iOS app. You're not going through a VPN or some other way?

Untitled.jpgThis is the screen that link get's me as well! Bizarre! Any thoughts on the problem?

I can get to the actual website in IE rather than chrome but still can't login, how easy is it to add you're member number after booking?

I had an issue with the PP newsletter booking links with IE, but that was resolved by using Chrome. Since then, no problems (but IE still doesn't work for me with the PP links). I can't help (as computers and I rarely see eye to eye) but have you tried the usuals, clearing the cache and ensuring cookies are enabled?

I know this thread is supposed to be listing the favourites but I have to share my experience at CP Melbourne last night. It was "memorable" enough not to go back there again. Entire place is so dated from the reception to the rooms. The wall between rooms so thin that I could clearly hear every conversation from the next room. I ordered in room dining and the chicken on the salad was like chewing pieces of thick cardboard :(
