IHG Hotels that recognise status

If there was a proper coffee machine there was no one manning it, when i asked about barista coffee i was told best bet was across the road.

Reception really cramped with staff mostly hidden behind pot plants next to lifts. No separate bar staff and no where to sit inside except 1 lounge chair looking at the white wall /box hiding what i imagine was originally reception . I suppose you could sit in the breakfast area but no tv that i saw.

I have been sent a survey, will be highlighting the artic temperature and lack of cutlery.

There isnt much choice in Maroochydore hotelwise. Luckily unlikely to need to visit again anytime soon.
Oh this sounds like they have completely dismantled and rebuilt the entire ground floor....how odd. It was still new and entirely functional (from the perspective of a paying guest).

How is it that a new built HIX&S branded property becomes a HI branded property and go through such a significant decline in amenity? Weird decisions being made here.

Have they removed the large table and high chairs as well as the smaller tables and chairs from the reception area where you could sit, enjoy a drink and watch the TV if you wanted to?

Have they removed the proper coffee machine from the reception area? That was available for barista coffee when I have stayed there?
What used to be the reception area is blocked off as they rebuild the reception area, that’s where the coffee machine/bar was.
The seats near the lifts where the tv is has become the temp reception area.

It’s not a new build, it’s four years old

Four years old for any hotel property is still pretty new by most measures.

Agree, at the end of the day its reception area is getting a rebuild, not the whole ground floor. I will be interested to see the changes , no doubt driven by the new management company taking over from proinvest.

April Stays

Hotel: Hotel Indigo Melbourne Little Collins
When: April 4-6
Status: Diamond Ambassador
Rate: Destination Deals at ~$197/night plus 8% cashback via TopCashback
How do you manage to get 8% cashback as an elite? I thought the higher rates were only for non members - or do you book as a non member and add it after?

I booked during their Destination Deals sale, which featured Melbourne hotels at 30% off . This was about a week and a half before I was due to stay. My original rate was about $235 via a corporate code with no cashback, so it was a no-brainer to cancel, rebook and get cashback

I don't think TCB has ever said IHG status members get lower cashback?
TCB increases the IHG cashback rate to 8% and sometimes 10% for a few days every few weeks.
You can also use US TCB which is currently 10% or UK TCB if the rate is better

Correct, Accor plays that silly game but not IHG IME

Hotel: Crowne Plaza Hobart
When: April 2026
Status: Platinum Ambassador
Rate: $187/night (Visa cardholder rate)
Booked: 1 King Standard
Received: 1 King Standard Lounge Access Harbour View (room categories a little confusing here but essentially a two to three-category upgrade, visible in app on the morning of arrival)

An enjoyable stay during some unseasonably summery late-April weather in Hobart!

Arrival
Pre-arrival comms were good with emails and WhatsApp messages. Arrived in the evening and check-in was smooth and efficient with the friendly receptionist providing two welcome drink vouchers, a letter outlining the club lounge inclusions and confirming a 2pm late checkout.

Room
The rooms here are nice and have held up well since the hotel's opening around 6 years ago. Plenty of modern features including USB charging and curtains that automatically open/close as you enter/leave the room and can also be controlled from the bedside console. Comfortable king bed with four huge pillows, plenty of storage space, good air conditioning and a TV with free-to-air channels as well as Chromecast. There is a stocked minibar but regrettably they have moved from a more premium T2 tea offering to a bog standard Pickwick tea. The views out the floor-to-ceiling windows are lovely.

The bathroom is fine but the shower is seriously in need of a door, the water pressure is too good and the space is too small for the cubicle to be door free and I don't think there's a way to shower without water splashing out into the bathroom! The towels could also do with a refresh, they are a bit thin, small and not at all luxurious. Otherwise the bathroom was good.

Housekeeping was fine and a welcome card and some welcome sweets were also waiting in the room on arrival.

Club Lounge
The club is located on the 12th floor in what used to be the Aura rooftop bar space, and I believe it is still open for external guests who want to partake in the paid afternoon tea service. The space is open to guests from 6.30am-10pm daily, with breakfast from 6.30am-10am (10.30am on weekends), evening drinks and canapés from 5-7pm and non-alcoholic drinks and light snacks available all day. It is a large space with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, with great views in multiple directions.

There has again been a bit of cost cutting in the lounge but it remains pretty good. Breakfast historically had a selection of hot items as well as eggs made to order, now the buffet selection is entirely continental and there is a small menu of hot dishes you can order. Still plenty to choose from and the quality is good, I've always enjoyed their pastries and cakes selection. Unlike some hotels where club guests can also opt to have breakfast in the main restaurant instead, that isn't an option here.

The all-day snacks selection used to include chips, Cadbury chocolate bars etc but there were none of those to be seen anymore. Not sure if they are avaialble on request, I didn't ask.

At the evening service historically they used to have a couple of hot items available, now the only hot item was a huge tray of mini spring rolls. Drinks list however hasn't changed and while it doesn't have spirits or coughtails, they do have a good selection of wines and beers including some non-alc options. I only made it to the evening service on one of the three nights and they were a little light on staff which meant they weren't proactively coming around to top you up but they were happy to help if you walked up to the bar. It was nice but can't say I felt like I missed out on much by not going on the other two nights.

As a free perk with my annual lounge pass I was very pleased, but if paying cash I'd say anything more than about $50/night extra is not worth it.

F&B
The main restaurants are on the 4th floor where reception is, used my drink vouchers here for some beers - there is a lovely outdoor deck to sit on and enjoy your meal or drink.

On one of the mornings during my stay I had an early departure for a tour and enquired via WhatsApp about getting a breakfast box in lieu of the club breakfast. They responded quickly and confirmed I could pick up a breakfast box from the front desk at my convenience. I was provided with a "Rise and Shine" box, which judging by appearance looks to be a long-life box with some breakfast essentials that they probably hand out at conferences and the like. I appreciated them making this available at no additional charge.

Amenities
Unfortunately didn't get to use the gym on this occasion. The lifts have always been a bit of a problem at this hotel as there are three but one of them has its own button - what ends up happening is people press both buttons and it creates inefficency. This was made worse on this particularly visit because one of the pair of lifts was out of action, so they were down to two lifts each with their own button! Fortunately they didn't seem super busy, because at peak periods the lifts got pretty packed.

Location
In the city centre of Hobart right above Myer and various shopping arcades. Many of the tours and attractions originate about 10-15 mins walk downhill around the Brooke Street Pier and with the proliferation of hotels in Hobart there are now some pretty nice options much closer to that part of town, that said the location still works just depends what sort of experience you're after and how much walking you want to do!

Final Thoughts
Staff here are very caring, considerate and friendly - you can tell the training programs are solid and they want to give their guests a good experience. On value for money it is great, to be honest I wouldn't mind them charging a little more and lifting the quality a bit. Would definitely return.

Confusingly CP Terrigal does have its "Pacific Club" offering for some of its premium rooms.

Albeit at least in my experience elites can get the Club rooms without the benefits (drink vouchers and parking).

They do have massive balconies however and the breakfast is pretty good.
