HSBC Platinum 60,000 $199 fee

Now at the end of the 9th business day. Sent in payslip on Tuesday (7th business day), via fax "which is the quickest", and told by CSR that I will have to wait 3-5 business days from sending payslip for an outcome... so slow! :(

The online application retrieval still says "processing"

8pm Edit: Email received advising Conditionally approved, hooray! Just need to do an ID check despite sending Citibank ID as requested on Tuesday. I'll go into HSBC branch tomorrow to get completed.

Update: Not surprisingly, I registered the issue with the double credit check with HSBC 2 days ago. Was told to expect a call back yesterday - nothing. Seriously not expecting good things from this.

Next step - I'm going to find the Equifax and Experian request forms to complete this weekend and send off to get it scrubbed as based on all actions taken by HSBC so far, I've zero confidence in them correcting it.

As a data point on their 'effectiveness' shall we say....

Day 0 - Single Application Lodged online
Day 1 - Credit Check registered on Equifax
Day 2 - Nothing
Day 3 - Checking the application, it said HSBC not able to offer me a credit card at the moment.
Day 4 - Missed call from them, advised that my application got duplicated - one has been stopped, and the other is proceeding and I need to send in payslips. Cant submit electronically as the new reference number doesnt work online - have to email. Confirmed with agent that no 2nd credit check would be done.
Days 5-12 - various calls to check progress 'no update, but they are verifying and will have answer for you in 3-5 days'
Day 13 - Called to find out card approved.
Day 19 - Card arrived
Day 20 - PIN arrived

Better yet, I once a long time ago had a HSBC credit card that I cancelled - but it shows up in my internet banking profile? Cant access any information about it and am certain I closed it down (seriously, 5-6years ago it was and did have an annual fee - so with it showing a zero balance, I'm sure its just old profile data), so hoping its ghost presence doesnt cause me problems with the 60k QFF points. I think I'm relatively OK as I've already (can you believe it) got my first statement - and its got the promotional rate for the balance transfer on it (BT ends up in offset - $199 turns into $50 annual fee taking into account interest saved)... so I'm hopeful.

I will be kicking and screaming if they arent awarded - the sole purpose of obtaining the card is to get 60k points for a net card fee of $50 (Balance Transfer worth $150 to me).
 
Would be great to know the update tizey once you make the minimum spend within 3 months.

Update with me: Received another missed call from HSBC today (from a private number this time, last week it was from 02.. wish they were consistent!) asking me to call them back Monday to Friday, argh! I'm guessing most likely to complete 100 point ID check, which I already have. Anyway, I'll call back tomorrow, around 5pm, if the online tracker hasn't updated to approved by then... it better!

HSBC process so archaic. Tomorrow will be the 11th business day, 15 days since application.

I remain confident I'll get the 60k points. I've logged on this morning and the old account has vanished, and I couldnt get any detail of it when I could see it, so should be dead. Hopefully should have $3k spent on it before next statement which I'm guessing is around 10-15th June.

Actually seems like a reasonable card for me on day to day - 1:1 QFF for first $2500/month. With the plan to shutdown all Amex issued cards prior to 30 June so that in 2019 I can re-apply, I'm thinking this might be worth holding on to as a 'churn but get regular spend until annual fee is due' for me.
 
Friday (05-05) letter arrives saying I need to go to Post Office to do 100 points.
I received a letter today (16-05) from HSBC saying my application has been suspended as I haven't done my 100 points check. This was done on 06-05 at Post Office (HSBC also insist on certified (by AusPost staff) photocopies of documents to be sent in with 100-point check).

I rang HSBC: operator confirmed they don't have 100-points check documentation. I offered to email AusPost receipt to prove I have done the check 10 days ago.
"That's only for you, it doesn't prove anything."
"You need to download the appropriate check form from our web site and take it to the Post Office and do (another) 100-point check. If we do not receive the identity check within 7 days, we will cancel your application".

Is all this incompetence worth it for 60,000 points?
 
This was penciled in for my next application (as its been at least 4 weeks :D) but reading some of these stories I'm unsure its worth the potential approvals hassle... Perhaps the citibank QF option is better. $200 fee, 50k points after 1st spend...

I'm now up to Day 17 (13 work days) since applying. I've been conditionally approved, just waiting for ID check to trigger the approved status.
It seems as though some are lucky with the process, getting auto approved, no ID check etc, and others, like myself, have to wait weeks for the process to be complete. Hoping by Day 20, Friday, the application is completed.

I think if you've been through the hoops before, you're in their system and ID check is not required.

I'm assuming some kind of auto check against veda file. If their auto check doesn't tick all the boxes then it means manual check. If I don't receive confirmation tomorrow I'll give them a call and ask why some get auto-approved and some get the manual check.

Nope. benjy's guess is probably better than mine.
 
There are online services that can validate Medicare Numbers, Drivers Licences, Passports and what not. GreenID (vixverify) is about half the cost of doing a AusPost verification.

Sometimes it doesn't verify you, so then you need to go through another channel...
 
After 20 long days my application is finally approved! Hooray. So lesson to learn here, if you're not in a rush for a CC (like most of you are), apply for HSBC. You may win the lottery and get approved instantly or win last division and wait 20 days to be approved.
 
Applied and received conditional approval. Submitted payslip via document uploader - lets see how long it takes to run through the process.

No prior dealings with HSBC.

I decided "stuff it, I can't be bothered having another full set of documentation go missing at HSBC", especially as AusPost told me the 100-point check was securely delivered within 48 hours of me completing it. So I decided to forget about this card.

To my great surprise, a HSBC Visa card arrived in the mail today: whoopee do!

So that only took 7 weeks from go to whoa! This card will definitely (and defiantly) be cut up in 11 months' time, but as my monthly Visa (ie non-Amex) spend is ~$6k, I'll use my MacBlack for ~$4k and HSBC for ~$2k.
