Hotel Promotions Hilton Honors Promotions

Thanks to @boomy, my stay at DoubleTree Melbourne on Monday night elicited triple points, plus spend of more than $400 at this property (stay, dinner with @boomy put on room tab plus a $50 voucher purchased for future stays) will get me back $80 (so voucher is free). Love the Community knowledge :D. Oh, plus additional 1K points for dining in restaurant promotion and a bottle of red wine to share over our meal. Capping it off - fantastic service from Paige, the Head Concierge.

I don't seem to be able to register for ANY of these promos. I'm Diamond (via VA WP) and rarely stay at Hiltons so don't know anything of the HHonors program.

I have holidays to ASP (Oct 2019) and HKG (Feb 2020) coming up so I thought I'd investigate the Hilton brand, especially with the 400/80 AmEx offer on.

When I tried to register using an @boomy link, I get this:

165154

and then this:

165153

Clicking on the link attached to the offer, I get told I'm not eligible again!

Would buying points with the 100% bonus offer trigger the AmEx credit? Is it easy and/or cost-effective to utilise the points?

I get the same message on the first and I do not qualify message on the second. So buying points won't help.

But are they (HHonors points) worth buying to use, especially with the Amex credit? I don't think I'm going to get any value to accrue them by staying there, even if I could register for the bonus offers.

I don't know for sure on the points, but was under the impression that Points.com processes the purchase, so I would think it unlikely that the amex credit would work

@Happy Dude, why don't you ring up the hotel direct and buy a $400 voucher (for crediting against your stay, as you'll use more than that for both properties - but check that they are participatign properties first in the T&C's). I recently stayed at Hilton DoubleTree MEL and spent $376 and then (on @boomy's suggestion) bought a separate $50 voucher towards my next stay at checkout, so the 2 transactions exceed $400. Here's my Amex CC transactions and look at the top transaction :D:

I often buy Hilton gift vouchers during AMEX cashback promos. They used to be valid for 6 months but thanks to new law passed in Australia last year all gift vouchers MUST be valid for at least 3 years and I’m happy to say all Hilton properties I’ve dealt with so far adjusted expiry date accordingly.

Thanks QFWP and Boomy. Are the gift vouchers valid at other Hiltons or just the one it's purchased?

@Happy Dude, over to the expert @boomy to explain. This was my first time (didn't even know they existed until I had dinner with @boomy at the DT restaurant the night of my stay). Boomy helped by giving me cash for his dinner and I charged the lot to my room.

Hilton gift vouchers are valid only for the property they were purchased from. They’re a bit backward in this area unfortunately. Also make sure before you buy the hotel confirm via email they are valid for 3 years (because it’s a relatively new thing) unless you buy in person and then it will be written on the vouchers.

For those keen to learn Chinese, if you book your stay at participating Asia Pacific hotels using the Hilton Honors Chinese iOS app during the 100 celebration sale period (finishing 6 September 2019 5pm Beijing time for stays till 29 February 2020), you will earn 2000 points per stay to a maximum of 10000 points.

Asia Pacific Double Points when paying with Visa. Unfortunately it caps at 20,000 points,

Should be stackable with the Go More Get More promo here:

I assume this will work with the Macquarie Platinum (Or Platinum Qantas) some of us now have following the demise of the Hilton card?

"pay with a Visa Infinite, Visa Signature, Visa Rewards (cardholders in Australia only), or Visa Platinum card (cardholders in Australia, China and Japan only). "

As long as it is one of those types of Visa you should be fine.

I am planning on using the ANZ Traveller Card (no forex fee) which is Visa Platinum.

Excellent and many thanks @SponsorSFC, have registered for both. Have a new Business Visa Signature card to replace my (soon to be cancelled) Macquarie Platinum Black. Also have a personal Platinum Visa, which I'll use unless my I spend over $400 at a property (not DT Melbourne or Hilton Perth) that I can't get my spend $400, get $80 back.

For those playing at home I booked a stay at Conrad SIN later in the year under the APAC flash sale rate.

The charge wasn't made automatically so I have been able to email the hotel and organise a manual payment to be made split over multiple Amex cards to maximise the Amex cash back offer..

How long was the email turnaround time? Emailed them this morning but haven't heard anything.

Has anyone put any thought into how to keep their Diamond Status into the future post-2021 expiry from the Macquarie Hilton card?

Using rollover nights from last year, and nights this year, I will end up with around 55 nights towards Diamond, but already have it anyway through Macquarie. Does this mean, with rollover nights, I will need only 5 nights to keep Diamond status for another year after the status from Macquarie expires?
