Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

MASA booked one way Brisbane to Singapore in J - early November for 60,000 pts plus approx. $340. Tried to charge a booking fee but when I objected they waivered it. She initially stated she knew nothing about the MASA - but continued to work through it - and was quite helpful. Interesting to note that she was not up to date regarding the new family transfer arrangements. Its a bit of a pin having to go through the call centre - but that just requires a bit of re adjustment in order to receive the benefits.

New family transfers?

It's no lobger once a yeqr at upto 100,000 points max?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Anita mentioned that these ASAs were now only available to platinums and P1s and while that doesn’t seem to be borne out by other posters’ experiences, ISTR someone else reporting a similar conversation earlier in the thread.

I can confirm that this is incorrect information.

ASAs in any form are available to all Qantas Frequent Flyer members, and the dedicated number for ASAs at Classic rates is applicable to all tiers.

Apologies for the miscommunication.

Good - hopefully the CSA can be identified for some "extra training" ;) - along with all the others who are saying that mASA's can't be done, only Classics are available (they just need to read Q4470)

Aside from that minor bit of misinformation, which was just mentioned in passing, she was excellent, with just the right combination of efficiency and friendliness. In fact, I submitted positive feedback to QF customer care.
Perhaps she was just trying to make me feel special, like the teachers at school used to.

Good to know, although the recorded message in American (!!) saying, "we are currently experiencing system failures" is not encouraging when ringing the 1300 number or the QFF number on the back of my card.

I need to book a JASA pronto!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

So that is now 7 phone calls made, still haven't booked a seat, beyond a joke really.

Last guy said I will have to prove the second passenger is my "domestic partner" at the airport or they wont produce her ticket as the ASA is only for related passengers.

On top of all the fuss with that, he said that the ASA would never ever under any circumstances be at the classic rate.

This is obviously a situation where QANTAS want to phase out the ASA program and by making it this difficult, the customer base will drop and provide them a reason to remove them all together

Whats the go Red Roo? Really not feeling the QF love anymore..... It's becoming all too hard

Finally got it sorted, still haven't booked though, came in DRW-BNE-CBR return, 2 pax in J, 140,000 points and $1145 taxes... Sound expensive?

While it's true that you can only redeem Qantas Points for yourself or an eligible family member (domestic partner is on the list), I'm very concerned to hear about this conversation.

Our guidelines are certainly not intended to offend, and have always been generous by way if inclusions since the program's inception.

Regarding ASAs at Classic rates, there has been no change to their availability and booking procedures. We're continuing with our coaching and awareness sessions, and in some instances with specific individuals.

In this case, I've located your booking and identified the consultant who last spoke with you. As you may appreciate, I cannot discuss our internal follow up, however please be assured that your comments will be used as example.

Obviously a temporary glitch as JASA now booked. 6 minutes 51 seconds on the phone. CSA knew exactly what she was doing and when I checked about the 3500 point booking fee, she said, "no that doesn't apply to this type of booking". :)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Its still clear this is not working 50% of the time, Q should still remove this impost and put them back online to stop all this frustration by QFF members, its really ridiculous.

You crack me up Limewood :). You don't miss an opportunity to remind QF even when faced with the facts that they are not coming back online. I admire your persistence!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

As they say in the face of adversity don't give up. My mother was a journo think I get it from there.

But really, when ASA's were online it was all so simple to view and select, a real good QFF feature, then the site was "enhanced" they were removed, now what we have is many operators that don't know the new rules after what 3 months, still a hit and miss affair and so frustrating for customers, some have spent hours trying to get a a MASA or ASA or whatever they like to call them, beyond a joke. Ok off the soap box, time to leave this particular forum, so best of luck in the lottery.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just wanted to share my experience booking a MASA today, Whilst I was served by a lovely polite chap on the phone today, I was on hold for at least 20 minutes today as the Agent sought to find out how to book this type of reservation.

I was told at least 10 people were standing by helping the agent make the reservation. They must have all loved the sound of my voice I was thinking? lol

Needless to say I intended to make a reservation for Tomorrow, but after being on hold for the extended period I was told that a MASA had to made at least 24 hours in advance.

Fair enough I thought as I just wanted to make a quick day trip on the whim that would finally get me over the line & advance to Platinum Status.

The phone call was extremely professional at the Qantas End, but the agent was extremely apologetic for the delay , wished me luck next time I call up & stated that next time " I hope you get someone better than me."

I held no grudges whatsoever with the agent on the phone, but did feel that maybe internal training procedures on the MASA may not have got through to all agents so far.

".............. I was on hold for at least 20 minutes today as the Agent sought to find out how to book this type of reservation......."

This is a worry to me since if/when I do get around to trying to book an ASA I'll be ringing from Singapore :-|

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I'd given up posting in this thread but came back to agree with Limewood.

It was so simple and easy to book online previously. The new process is not. Definitely not a win for Qantas's customers, many of whom using this "product" are of the higher tiers of the FF program.

I wish it was brought back online. I haven't used one since the switch. I've used either (paid) discount economy on QF or (paid and points) J on Virgin.

Please just tell us the truth as to why they (ASA's) were taken off line.
We know it's way more inefficient. A waste of customer time and a waste of QF call centre resources. ( Blind freddie can see that) so just fess up and put us all out of our misery .....please. 

I'm also in PER second week Nov, we might be able to have a an ASA wake :D

I'm currently in the Caribbean but will be back home in PER from 20 Oct-26 Nov before heading to Patagonia and Antarctica. I haven't tried to use the phone-up xASA 'service' as I burned huge points on online JASAs early in the year. However, I would be interested in joining in an ASA wake or grumble session.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just for everyones information.

It has been mentioned as to whether or not Plats and above represent a significant number with in the QFF program. During a recent conversation with a senior manager with in QF it was mentioned several times that Plat Members represent around 3% of all frequent Flyers and that P1 are about 1% yet the dollars that these percentatges mean to QF is many many times more that the 3 and 1 %.

So in short yes if all the 2 and 1 % walked then QF would be hurt.

Does this mean that QF should sit and listen to its high tier customers.DAMN RIGHT they should.

So QF Listen up and Return to us the abaility to once again book these ourselves.

I'm pretty sure the Perth event is planned for the second week.... so perhaps you'll miss it...
