General COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion

Looks like there will be lots of AZ and JnJ available soon...

Canada will be thrilled - they have just announced today that AZ is safe for use, by all. They are also in desperate need of vaccines so now EU doesn't want them, there will be lots of countries who do!

Meanwhile all this will achieve is the EU languishing for longer and probably out of bounds for us Aussies for longer too.

Europe bets heavily on Pfizer in vaccine strategy overhaul

Europe has hinted it will not renew contracts for coronavirus vaccines produced by pharmaceutical giants AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson, in a new strategy that pivots heavily towards Pfizer and its new mRNA technology.

In a surprise statement on Wednesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said negotiations were under way to buy 1.8 billion Pfizer-BioNTech doses for 2022 and 2023.

Curious & curiouser - Pfizer/BioNTech announced that they were increasing the production rate to 2.5 billion per annum by late 2021.

They also stated they had around 600m+ doses uncontracted for 2021 (I recall).

Something does not add up as by end 2022 (if all goes to plan which Pfizer/BioNTech seem to have been executing exceedingly well, especially in licencing other Pharma companies to produce it like at Kundl in Austria - the place without the kangaroos worth doing a search on Kundl, a small village of under 4,000 people about 55km north east of Innsbruck to get an idea of how behind we are in Australia).

Unless massive recent contracts not yet announced by Pfizer/BioNTech - there should be around 3 billion doses available before the end of 2022. So for the EU's 1.8bn dose order to stretch into 2023 seems odd.

Perhaps it is stretched out to allow for variants to be created in the Pfizer/BioNTech mRNA vaccine.

Green means ok to travel and self iso at home for how long? And how many tests? Is it likely to change for Green when late June is here?
No self iso but need to do a PCR test around day 2. Not likely to change at all by late June. Being vaccinated will make no difference. Essentially just a tax on top of trips to friendly countries.

How about Aussies. Self iso?

Same rules for everyone, if you've not been in or transited a country on the amber / red list, then no self iso required. Australia is not being touted as one of the countries that will be on the green list though due to low vaccination rates.

That old vaccination nugget comes back to haunt again 😡

And the current rollout is unlikely to be enough since a booster against variants will be the general standard as of early 2022.

It doesn't mean that we shouldn't do booster shots, but the urgent need to have them will only be there if they will prevent hospitalisations and deaths. If no one will get badly sick or die from COVID then booster shots are a want not a need.

Oh and what a surprise, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines also cause clots 😂

So there you go, clots clots for everyone.

Now can we please get back to vaccinating everyone with anything that is lying around...

Breaking: Blood clots as prevalent with Pfizer and Moderna vaccine as with AstraZeneca's: new study

A study by Oxford University found the number of people who receive blood clots after getting vaccinated with a coronavirus vaccine are about the same for those who get Pfizer and Moderna MRNA vaccines as they are for the AstraZeneca vaccine.
