Well that's as clear as mud isn't it?

"as outlined in the enclosed Rewards Varaition Notice"

Which says right at the end:

If you are unclear on any of the information or specified changes, please do not hesitate to contact us on 132484"

Why do I suspect that if I call, I'll end up no wiser but more frustrated?

I couldn't find the references to a drop in earning rate on my mailout but on page 13 of the "citibank qantas rewards program terms and conditions" it has a chart for an earn rate of 1 point per dollar spent but says at 13.5 that 2 pts = 1 QFFpt.
These conditions seem to apply to the signature and select cards!

I emailed Citibank re accruing QANTAS Freq flyer points - this is their response:

Dear xx_ Thank you for your email. We confirm that Qantas Frequent Flyer earn rate on Citibank Signature card will remain as one point per one $1.00 spent. thanks for following up with Citibank - however this is the bit that's now confusing me:
1.5 reward points for per dollar domestic spend (for cards enrolled with Citi Rewards program) - four points for overseas spend (for cards enrolled with Citi Rewards program) - unlimited points per year, with no expiry - for Citibank Qantas Rewards Program, you will earn one Reward point per $1.00 spend.

what's the difference between the two??? is it 1 or 1.5? i confirmed today when accepting the offer that one had to continue with the Citibank Qantas rewards annual membership of $49, ie cannot opt out so does that mean the lower rate applies??

that's ridiculous, no? or perhaps Im stupid...

I am sorry if this is cross posting but one9 has a tiny bit more to add
from http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=517731
I was told the following:
Platinum cardholders who upgrade for free to Signature card will initially keep earning 1 point per dollar, but on April 12 it will change to half point per dollar. I believe Citibank only made the decision somewhat recently to also include the Signature card in the points reduction (before they only intended Platinum card and below) and intend to announce it better before April 12. I have an operator tell me wrong information and only after I spoke to the Supervisor was it confirmed that Citibank will half the Qantas earn rate on Signature card in April 12. But of course Citibank being Citibank, anything could happen.

So if the earn rate will be the same, is there any point in accepting the offer? (I joined Priority Pass about 6 weeks ago before a trip through Africa. So I doubt that I can take advantage of the "free" membership.)

Received my invite last night as well.

Just triple reading everything and wanted to know if anyone else is annoyed at all the changes?

It was only 31/08/2011 that I received a letter saying that I would be earning 1.25pts/$1 with a 250,000 annual pt cap.

Now on the 17/11/2011 I get this invite saying I can earn 1pt/$1 uncapped if I upgrade but if I do nothing come April 2012 I downgrade to 0.5pts/$1.

Makes me wonder/worry what other changes are around the corner???

Thankfully my annual fee is still $0.

I was looking into this card, and it seems like the QFF earning is still 1pt per $ Spent, and only if enrolled into the stupid $49 Qantas thingy.

This is confusing me too. I currently have the Citibank Platinum Rewards Card, and have never had a fee for earning Qantas points. In the new Rewards card offer the FAQ booklet has the statement "The annual Citibank Qantas Rewards Program fee will remain at $49". Does that mean I now have to start paying $49 ? Or is this referring to a different card product to the Citibank Platinum Rewards Card ? Very fuzzy.

For all the debate about QF point earning rate, why are people still travelling with QF after all the cough people had to put through???

Anyway, I haven't got the invite as yet but who knows... :)

May try to call

Just received new cards yesterday, dated 5th November, hmmm.

The card itself looks surprising poverty compared to the old Platinum, but at least the label came off cleanly this time.

Looking forward to the new features.

Does anyone know whether the free upgrade card will have access to SPG? If it is then can you opt out from QFF earning, so you can send the points to SPG?

i got free upgrade today (after free upgrade from gold to plat some years ago). was a mastercard as well, so now have visa. but like others still compltely confused about earn rate for QFF. the info on the letter under note 1 does suggest it is changing to $2 = 1 point as of march 2012, and if so i'll just ditch it then.

however the rewards terms and conditions booklet they sent with it (which mentions the 2 points = 1 qff point in clause 13.5) also doesn't say anything that only applying from 1 March 2012, which you think it would.. and the citibank website for normal signature applications says $1 = 1 QFF with no mention of it changing in March, unless they're planning a bait and switch that would p*ss off the kind of well-to-do people who qualify for signature cards, which you would have thought they wouldn't.

trust citibank!

I got the offer yesterday. It is very badly worded:

1. The Signature Card cover letter (dated 10 November 2011) Introduction: "There has never been a better time to upgrade to the new Signature Card to earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every dollar spent and unlimited Qantas frequent Flyer points. If you choose to remain on your current Platinum card, the earn rate will change to 1 point per $2 spent from 1 April 2012 as outlined in the enclosed Rewards Variation Notice)."

2. The Signature Card cover letter (dated 10 November 2011), Signature card features and benefits: "1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every dollar spent".

3. The Signature Card cover letter (dated 10 November 2011) Terms and Conditions (for the Signature Card): "From 1 March 2012 the Citibank Qantas Rewards Program earn rate will change to 1 point per $2 spent. Please see enclosed Rewards Variation Notice for further information."

4. The Variation Notice (dated 18 October 2011) (for Rewards Classic, Gold and Platinum cards only) : "Effective 1 July 2012... we will allocate 0.5 Citibank Qantas Rewards Points for each whole $1.00 AUD". 13.1 (a) of the Notice is particularly confusing!

5. The Frequently Asked Questions brochure (printed August 2011) for the upgrade to the Signature Card: "... you will continue to earn 1 point per dollar spent. The annual Citibank Qantas Rewards Program fee will remain at $49."

So what date applies for the earning reduction? 1 March 2012, 1 April 2012 or 1 July 2012. All are mentioned!

The main issue I think is point 3. It would seem the Signature Card is dropping to 1 point per $2 from 1 March 2012. And it also refers to the "enclosed Rewards Variation Notice for further information". But the "enclosed Rewards Variation Notice" is NOT for the Signature Card. I hope that point 3 meant to say : "From 1 March 2012 changes to the Citibank Qantas Rewards Program for Rewards Classic, Gold and Platinum cards will become effective. Please see enclosed Rewards Variation Notice for further information."

How did you email them btw? I thought that they removed the secure mail facility?

Like everyone else I am a little confused about the transfer rate from Citi Rewards to QFF points.

The confusion I think, is because of the 2 different options for rewards. If enrolled in Citi Qantas FF rewards, the current earn rate on Platinum Visa is 1:$1 and capped at 240K points per year (up recently from 120K) transferred automatically to QFF at a rate of 1:1. From April 2012 the transfer rate will reduce to 1:.5 QFF. If you choose to upgrade you maintain 1:1 and points are not capped.

If you are enrolled in Citi Rewards the current earn rate is 1.25:$1. This will increase to 1:1.5 domestically (4 points international spend) with the upgrade and the earn rate is uncapped. I do not know the transfer rate to QFF from Citi Rewards.....Has anyone transferred points to QFF from Citi Rewards??? if so what is the transfer rate??

My recollection is that you cannot transfer from Citi Rewards to QFF.

My recollection is that you cannot transfer from Citi Rewards to QFF.

Not only that but if you switch to QFF you lose all the points already accrued in Citi Rewards
Make sure you cash them out before transfer.

Well that's as clear as mud isn't it?

Why do I suspect that if I call, I'll end up no wiser but more frustrated?

Not only do you run the risk of being no wiser but ....

I rang this morning, (platinum card for the past 3 years) after receiving letter sans upgrade offer, but urging me to change to citi-rewards from qff rewards.

The operator, when I advised I wanted an upgrade path that meant keeping 1$ : 1 QFF that my card had been flagged as high risk counterfeit some time early November and that if I didn't cancel and have a new card sent out I would be liable for any bad activity on my account.

Dumbfounded no one had rung me in the last 3 weeks to tell me.

current status: Can't use card until a new one is sent out. They wont talk to me about manually requesting an upgrade to select or signature until I have the new card (I don't earn 120 but not too far off), no one was able to advise me with any certainty (talked to 2 operators and a supervisor, and they all went off to check with others) if there was any card apart from the citibank business gold, that would allow the same QFF earn as I currently get on the platinum.

I wish I hadn't called.

disappointing and I think the outcome will be closing my Citi accounts come April next year.

current status: Can't use card until a new one is sent out.

Same happened to me. Received an SMS message from them asking me to call them urgently (they did not attempt to call me) and they advised that the security of both my card and my wife's had been compromised. Both cards cancelled on the spot and were thus unusable until a week later when the new cards arrived. Have to assume that the compromise was at their end, as we don't use our cards at the same places.

Then they have the cheek to send the new card with a letter that reads "You are receiving this card because you recently contacted us to report that your credit card has been lost or stolen". Honesty would be nice.

I and Mr SIA1A both received unsolicited 'Signature' cards today, 21 Nov (main card + 1 supplementary). The accompanying letter is dated 4 November and we must accept by 31 Nov if we want to participate. Nice timing - not.

As others have pointed out, the letter from Citi (card attached to letter) notes that the Signature / QFF deal changes to 1 QFF point per $2 spent on 1 March 2012. The same letter also says that our current Platinum Visa cards will change from 1:1 to 1 QFF point per $2 spent on 1 April 2012.

There doesn't seem to be much 'point' in swapping cards (and rearranging direct debits etc, organising new PINs and online banking passwords etc) - despite the fact that Citi charges new cardholders an annual fee of $395 for the 'Signature' card while we apparently get it free. What a rip-off if you are 'new'! (but PSST - there's a 'bonus' 80,000 rewards points for new customers. It's amazing what $395 up front will do at Citi! Yeah right.).

I also agree with others that the new card design is decidedly down-market. I find it about as exciting as a Citi ATM card. It is blue with the word 'Rewards' prominently positioned on the card, together with the Visa Signature logo and, well, that's about it. It has a chip but no Visa Paypass capability, unlike the Visa cards issued by most Australian banks, so Citi certainly ain't interested in introducing customer convenience. It feels about as exclusive to use as a Woolworths Everyday Rewards card when buying Woolworths 'Select' home brand products. (Perhaps Citi should offer a Select card too - wait - they do, at a whopping $700 per year!)

The 'free' Priority Pass offer is misleading. It is NOT free. If you go to http://prioritypass.com/citibankaus and enter the special offer code supplied by Citi with the new Visa card, you find there's an annual fee of US$12, a member visit fee of $27 per visit and a guest visit fee of $27 per visit. So a visit to a Priority Pass lounge with my spouse and 2 teenagers will cost me US$108. A trip to Europe in January, with 4 Priority Pass lounge visits for our little entourage, will cost US$432 - hardly free. It is cheaper (after joining fee) to get a QF Club membership + annual guest card, good for a year, unlimited visits! I called the Priority Pass service centre in Hong Kong on (852) 2866 1964 and queried the charges. The operator stated that Priority Pass does not offer free deals and that the costs of the Citibank Australia deal are as displayed on the website.

As an aside, many of the lounges accessible to Priority Pass members are available to anyone by paying cash at the door. They are common-use, used by multiple airlines. They are at the low end in the luxury stakes and their profit drive means that things are often missing - like edible food, a good range of drinks, comfortable lounge seats, often crowded, often tatty etc - kind of like Economy. Their overall feel is that of a glorified departure gate zone. Genuine airline clubs (eg QF Club) are far superior. I note that there is only one Priority Pass lounge in Australia - the United lounge at Melbourne airport - and that lounge stopped accepting cards issued via US Banks (Citi is a US bank) on 1 Oct 2011. I think Priority Pass was accepted at Virgin lounges a while ago but that has now stopped too - so Priority Pass is useless within Australia.

I then called Citi. Twice. One operator said that 1:1 QF conversion for most Citi cards changes to 0.5:1 by the middle of next year and this includes Signature cards. The second operator said that Signature cards will remain at 1:1 and there are no plans to change this. Hmm. Both operators referred me to Priority Pass re the so-called free Priority Pass membership and free lounge entry offer.

My take is that the Signature program is poorly thought out. Implementation is appalling, exemplified by the time it has taken to get a letter dated 4 Nov to me - and the disconnect with Priority Pass.
