One could just as easily argue that with the opening up of more available routes that the value has increased. No matter which way they do things it will be better for some, worse for some and some simply won't care.
Well the ability to grt your free flight on DJ instead of QF is a positive for me.Cant fly QF out of MCY.
My point exactly :!: ;)

I wonder if you can get it for free as a plat charge card holder? I know that currently I only pay the fee on my plat charge and no other card.

I have heard anecdotally of this happening, Ultimate instead of Plat CC, but have no hard evidence of it.

has everyone received their letter yet? :)

I am still to receive my letter (not that I'm complaining!!)... although I did sign up and be accepted around the second week of June..

bdl,

I am assuming you mean June 2010 and if that is the case is it not as part of your original conditions :?:

hi straitman,

Yes, June 2010 - was for a Plat Affinity Credit card with QF point accrual..

The "Welcome to the Platinum Credit Card - style with substance" booklet refers to the free annual flight with no mention of carrier however the application form I filled out definitely referred to QF. Booklet print date seems to be 01/10 (ie. Jan 2010)

interesting...

My read on this would be that you fit the definition of having slipped through the cracks. :(

You signed up under one program and by the time it was all finalised they had swapped to the other.

will be curious to see what happens come annual renewal time (or when/after I claim my first QF flight), they may decide to advise me of the 'updated' flight redemption options.

Will keep AFF posted of course :)

AFAICT Amex Plat credit cards do not get concierge service. I don't think I do. Amex Plat charge cards have access to this service, as well as - IIRC - the ability to sweep to QF without full opt-in of QF Direct. ...
As a holder of a Plat Amex Charge card, I do get Concierge service, although I have never used it.
...
DJ may be on the "no fly list" for some.
That's no more facetious than saying QF may be on the "no fly list" for others.
Not at all, someone with QF on their "no fly list" would not have obtained this card in the first place.

I don't do much flying, maybe 4-5 domestic trips a year mostly for leisure, but if I do, I will choose DJ. I have flown QF 5 times in the last 4 years, 3 times as the redemption flight for Amex Plat credit and twice due to work only flying QF... Last year, I actually redeemed the hotel night instead as I was sick of Melbourne and Brisbane...

For me, DJ is great as now I have much more choice of destination, so the perceived value is actually improved for me.

Hmm, there has been talk that it doesn't matter whether you fly DJ or QF, because you don't earn points/SC's anyway.

I've had both Plat Amex and Ultimate QF Amex for about 5 years, and despite what the policy says, that's never what has happened. All you have to do is when you speak to the Amex reservations person is asked them to put your FF number in so that the flight shows up online for you. They always say you won't get points (although last time they said to me that you are supposed to get SC's, but not points - not sure if that's true or not), however I've got points on every flight so far. The system doesn't seem to differentiate between a normal N/O class and the so called "free" flight. They seem book it like it's a normal flight booked through an agent. Maybe I've been lucky, but I do know someone else who's always earned points as well.

Anyway, from Oct 1 I'll be using the free hotel night. Seems better value to me to stay at the Hilton Sydney or somewhere like that, than to take a $49 each way flight with DJ. (And yes MEL-PER might be worth more than MEL-SYD on QF, but there's no way I'd sit in an uncomfortable Y seat for that long...)

I think most here are aware that they have usually posted - the more significant question is whether that will continue to happen when the flights are booked on DJ.

Hmmm I earned points and SC on all my free QF flights. Canceling card now though.

My credit card anniversary falls in November. I will grab Qantas before then. So what would be most valued destination from Sydney? Accommodation is not an issue.

In theory, it would be Adelaide. But Melbourne would probably be more interesting.

I will be in Melbourne for the day in Sep. Considering flights cost $59 OW, that's $118. Most posts discuss flights. I am just wondering if a night's accommodation in lieu of flight is better value? No need to go beyond Sydney. Your views?

Yes these are much better than the rubbish destinations that are being offered with the free flight on DJ.;)

My understanding is that there is a huge number of extra destinations available under the DJ scheme when compared to the QF options.

From MEL with QF I could go to ADL, CBR, SYD or BNE. With DJ I can go to these plus a whole bunch more incl DRW.

LOL

I think I'll be trying to get on one of their A330's across to Perth next year.
