Last year (2001)at christmas I bought over $300 at a promotion at a department store to receive 5000 fly buys points. The promotion was for that day and it was communicated over the loudspeaker at the store.
In the new year I checked on the Fly Buys statement and didnt receive the points. Well the bottom line is the card was not scanned properly at the register. I also did not check the receipt ( fly buys has to be somewhere on the bottom of the receipt) , I didnt know this. Bottom line the Credit Card Issuer compensated me for the points , Just check the receipt.

Or better stilll, pay with AMEX, ANZQ Visa or Citibank cards, do a balance transfer to another card and forget about the useless FlyBuys points..get double (or triple) FF points using a simple trick! :D

If you can be bothered with Fly Buys (although I must admit the Tram Car Restraunt in Melb is a good reward) you definately need to keep receipts. The bonus offers have a habit of getting "misplaced" all too often.
As a scheme though, it's really about as useful as all my Global Rewards points. :( i.e. it does not compare to anything else in a favourable light. :!:

Just B PLATINUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Can someone please tell the moderator and get this idiot Shootda3 banned from spamming ? Just typing 'be platinum' does not bloody well help anyone.

Shootda3

Don't bother posting anymore mate. I've reported you to the admins of the forum for spamming and flaming. No one wants your stupid 'be platinum' comments because you're not adding anything constructive.

If you've not got anything constructive to add, don't bother posting here and go find another forum to annoy.

Kill ShootDa3

now stop bothering everyone on this board and annoy someone else!!

Just go and email / notify the admins and get this idiot taken off the board.

They can block the IP address.

Sceptical about offers....

I have little faith in collecting FlyBy points. After a period of serious saving, including 4 new tyres from KMart, stopping at all Shell servos between Cairns and Canberra, buying bonus items at all stores, shopping at Coles... the points collected were minimal, and there was no proof that my account was credited with the bonus points at all! I swear the Shell bonus points were particularly dubious.

Until the receipts at the participating stores tell me; 'Congratulations, you have accumulated xx_ FlyBy points with this purchase' I will never become a convert!

Walter---- :(

PS. Yes, I am the kind of person who notices incorrectly scanned prices at supermarkets as well - sometimes at least!

Well, I like Flybuys offers at Myers / Grace Bros. 2000 - 3000 bonus points for $75 to $100 worth of stuff at specific bonus offers.

I have collected over 24K over 3 years :( and when I checked last week for accomodation in Gold Coast for July, two hotels I checked had rooms fro about 12K a night. Will give more details after I book.
For a program with no fees, it is not really bad!! However, if you are not buying at the bonus offers, it will be very hard to get reasonable amount of points.

FLy Buys - Value for Money?

To prove the worth of Fly Buy points this is what I have 'purchased' with my points in the past five years. Traded in my points for either Coles Myer Vouchers to purchase products or direct Fly Buy Purchases. (Approximate cost of items I can remember)

1 x baby cot (wooden) - $1000.00
1 x pram - $300.00
1 x three wheel stroller - $400.00
1 x bouncer - $70.00
1 x sheet set - $40.00
1 x bath tub - $30.00
1 x change table (wooden) - $600.00
1 x car seat -$300.00
10 x Huggies nappies - $400.00
8 x gold class movie packs - $480.00
4 x normal movie voucher packs - $480.00
5 x nights @ Novotel Adelaide - $600.00
4 x days car hire - $480.00
3 x return airfares to Adelaide - $900.00
2 x learning childrens games - $150.00

Plus there has been a load of flash your card to get a discount - i.e.
Entry to Village / Greater union
Movieworld Shops
Sea World Shops

As a few of the big names became obsolete in the system it became harder to build up the points. Now Travelworld is back in there may be some incentive to re-purchase travel from the travel agent instead of the internet.

It doesn't cost you anything to be a fly buy member. Just pull out your card when you are shopping and swipe it!

Is is disappointing if you don't get the bonus points but remember you only buy what you need you don't buy for the points! For example; if Coles has a flybuys deal on shampoo and it is the brand you use and you need to buy 2 bottles to get the bonus buy the two bottles and stock the other for later. But if it isn't you brand don't buy it just for the points. Don't let the bonus points affect your shopping.

I would love to see a tally at the bottom of dockets (like the Soul Pattison Membership Scheme) so you know where you were up to. It may be a cost efficient way for Fly Buys Head Office to save money so that they do not have to post out a statement several times a years!!!

Remember not much is free anymore and if you shop normally where Fly Buys is accepted well you better have one.

Even if you don't buy things with your points you can still donate the points to charity and fell good about helping someone else and it hasn't cost you a thing!

Julie,

Welcome to AFF, I hope you find this site useful; I certainly do.

Anyway, you can get on line flybuys information, even redeem points.

They actually do have a web site (Click here for link). It is quite useful, giving you current tallies, expiring points etc.

Fuybuys online...

Flybuys is free. There is no reason to not use it... but I would use it a whole lot more if the receipts at Shell, GraceBros. etc. would say 'this purchase just earned you xx_x points'.

I know you can check your balance online, and even see which stores they came from, but not individual purchases... which I would not expect/want either. I really honestly feel that not all my points come into my account, or that the bonus points are given at times... Still, no reason not flash the card and get discounts here and there as well...

Again, I would be much more 'loyal' if I could see that I really did accrue points on purchases on the shopping receipt!

Walter----

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the welcome!
:D
I do use the Flybuys site to check up on details but as you know they don't have instant tallies on there daily. So if you need a few extra points for a purchase, your not guaranteed to get them straight away.

I am sure that some of my points have gone AWOL especially the bonus points but how do you prove it especially as your receipt doesn't mark the 'bonus' items separately?

Ta Julie
