PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Thanks OATEK, yes apparently there was a sale on Y+ a little while ago.

I did not understand his part, "in W, every seat is allocated so the W3 suggests they are prepared to oversell". But there's no cost in trying and missing out is there?

Expert Flyer returns the following: F9 A9 J9 C9 D9 I3 W3 R0 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 E9

Doesn't look too busy, except in W (Prem Econ). The seat maps show 8 unallocated spaces in J, and another 17 blocked. But in W, every seat is allocated so the W3 suggests they are prepared to oversell. So some op ups may reduce likelihood of upgrade. Probably worth a try though.

The seat map in Expert Flyer shows every Premium Economy seat is allocated to a passenger. So W3 suggests they are prepared to sell 3 seats at PE rates, knowing that they will have to make room by having 3 people move to J. So my thinking is that a PE upgrade is less likely than a J upgrade. But as you say, no upgrade, no points lost.

Re: update on QF93 on 12 sept

I have had no news yet for Y to J on QF 7 SYD-DFW 16 Oct.

And, QF8 29 Oct.

Would someone plse tell me if I'm dreaming?

I'm no expert and it will depend on how many others there are, but I'd say you have a reasonable chance.

Re: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Thanks so much, 'reasonable' chance actually brought tears (of potential relief) to my eyes, and it's not even for me, but for the kid.:)

Re: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Serfty, would you be so kind as to translate that for me?

It means there's a few business seats available for sale on QF 7 including deep discount which is the "I" fare and little to no business seats on QF 8 except one fare in a more expensive category "D"

Re: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Ok thanks for that, still hoping. Daughter's seat is 'K'. The bkg shows still on request.

On QF8 on 29 Oct, if that's the one that's quoted as most unlikely, perhaps I could change the request for PE instead of J(?)

I would leave it as a J request, but tick the fall back to PE option. Best of both worlds, IMO.

Doesn't look like there's any PE left?

Re: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Ok, I'll leave it as a J request as there was a PE seat sale a while ago so not surprised that none available. If she gets one 1 of 2 requests that ain't bad and she'll be thrilled - not a flat bed for a sleep on the way back, but that's life.

A bit early to tell for the return yet I would think. Good luck anyways.

Thanks all for helping me - we put the request in but still 8 days out so have not found out yet

I checked on flight stats and it is currently showing below so i hope some wriggle room comes up through cancellations in Business

Just wanted to report that:

I had a very cheap Y ticket QF9 on 10th of this month from MEL-DXB. As EF was showing a wide open flight (9+ in almost all classes), I asked for point upgrade to J. It came through 2-3 days before the flight... Yippie! I was in F Lounge in MEL when the lounge angel approached me and asked for my boarding pass. She then proceeded to hand me a boarding pass for seat 2F!! Double yippie, gone from a cheap Y to F.

I then checked EF, and it showed me a full F, only 1 seat in J and a couple in Y, but that was still a few hours before the flight so it must have a full house (I certainly did not see any vacant seat as I walked through the J cabin mid flight).

So, thank you, thank you, thank you Qantas. I am now much more inclined to book with Qantas again (some on here might recall that I have been becoming so disillusioned that I have not booked any Qantas flight recently beside a sole upcoming flight).

Looks like Flightstats has lost the seat availability/fare bucket availability tool.

I wrote to Flightstats:

"Hi Steve,Thank you for contacting FlightStats Help Desk.
We just released some enhancements to FlightStats.com including user interface improvements to the mobile site. We also removed Flight Availability. We fund the free tools on the site with advertisements and occasionally add/remove features based on customer demand.
We appreciate your interest and thank you for choosing FlightStats."

Is KVS still working?

Sadly, that seems to be the case. Not sure about KVS.

Boo! Who on earth would have sent them feedback saying they wanted that removing? Are there any other free options for flight availability?
