PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

For Questions about Aircraft Configuration and Seat Availability, please use this thread:

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I was expecting to see some J9 numbers and wondered why Serfty hadnt posted any just told me to go to post 1.

Playing the upgrade lottery

We have 2 x WP's booked in M on QF5 to SIN on 27/12.

J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T9 Y9 B9 H0 K0 M0 L0 S0 G0 E0

Now given the time of year and looking at the above it really looks like Y will be full and probably spilling out into the (relatively empty) forward cabins.

What are the feelings and experiences on WP's flying in the last week or Dec? It's only a day flight so can definitely bare it upfront in the mini cabin. How likely are op-ups? I am thinking points upgrade to W. Definitely don't need J, W will be sufficient for 2 of us on a day flight. Of course in W we're more likely to be op-uped to J anyway.

I know, it's a mere 25000 points but between ADL-SIN that would get us Y to J which is a no-brainer.

Not necessarily, you will need to know what's seats have oversold to obtain an accurate picture.

Also staff seats.

Try 3 days out.

Generally it's a good time for WP's to fly.

Re: Playing the upgrade lottery

I have an upgrade request in for two people to first on QF93 this saturday.

Currently looks like this, F9 A5 P0 J6 C5 D0 I0 U0 W0 R0 T0 Z0 Y1 B1 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0. It's been flucuating between F9A8 and F9A5 over the last couple weeks. What do you think my chances are? Apart from first, the flight looks chockers (I think).

Re: Playing the upgrade lottery

I suspect they'll be op upping some J PAX if not enough want points upgrades.

Better then normal chances in my opinion.

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Hi everyone

This is my first post after a few years of gleaning valuable information from AFF; thank you all.

My question is this: I am on QF93, QF107 this Tuesday (11 December), returning via SYD on QF108 on 17 December and was wondering whether anyone could tell me how full Y is likely to be. I am tall and a bad sleeper on planes and have fingers crossed for an empty seat or two next to me. That would be Christmas come early.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Welcome to AFF, Uncle BJ.

According to Expertflyer.com, next Tuesday's QF93 is showing F9 A7 P0 J9 C9 D9 I9 U0 W9 R9 T9 Z0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9 E0 which, to my understanding, is a very light load across all classes, including Economy.

QF107 the same day is showing J9 C9 D9 I9 U0 W9 R9 T9 Z0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9 E0 which is also a light load.

Well I got the upgrade from DFW, seat 1A, flight left on time and arrived 30 mins early.
Only minor complaint is you cant check in before 6pm, 4 hours early, whereas LAX you can check in at 2pm for midnight flight.

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Thanks so much Danger. Very good news.

Could I stretch the friendship and ask about the return flight on QF108 on 17 December?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations as to seating in Y on this flight? Is it the case that some of the Y+ seats are allocated to Y, with Y service?

Loadings for QF108 LAX-SYD on 18 Dec: J9C9D9I4W9R5T0Y9B9H9K9M9L9V9S9G0E0

I don't know how to enter the seat map picture for the above flight but I had a look and Y+ looks pretty full. From the seat map it is a three class bird i.e. J, Y+ and Y configuration so I doubt there will be Y+ seats allocated to Y with Y service. Methinks that was happening when they had a four class bird and they had only been selling it as a three class.

hths.

I assume you're coming from JFK. Looks like the latest 747 retrofit I think? If you've got the status I'd be jumping on 43C/H with foot cutouts for legroom, at risk of baby. I'm no Y warrior though, so will let others speak on that.

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Thanks ckck and Joshua.

I've just looked at the seat selection page on my QF93 booking (in Y) and noticed that I can, for $25, reserve a seat from row 32 back on the upper deck. Seatguru tells me that these (or at least the ones from 34 back) are Y+ seats which are allocated to Y passengers and have Y service. If I am not mistaken, I am able to upgrade myself to a Y+ seat for $25.

Am I missing something? Or is this truly a Christmas miracle?

Your QF93 is on a reconfigured A380, which has a new Y section at the rear of the upper deck, ie where the old PE section was. They are still Y seats in the old PE cabin but in a 2-4-2 layout.

Unfortunately there is no Xmas miracle...

Interesting that a NB (well I'm guessing you are since you have to pay a seat selection fee) can select UD Y and row 32!

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Looking for upgrade chances on:
QF10 Sin-Mel on Friday 14 Dec.
Booked in Y and would be happy for upg to Y+ (quoted at 10000 points) or even J (at 25000). Don't want top put J request in if no chance (happy with Y+ on A380 as well).
Thanks !
