I think I entered a trip which was way over 2.5M points required ;) so their computer must've blew up........

An error has occured in our central database. Please contact us for further information. (4002 - 1)

Tried a SYD-LAX-HKG-SYD fare in First ;) and it gives me SYD-LAX-xSYD-HKG-SYD for 3,207,856 ff points! hehehehe

Actually, PRO RATA, this is a good one. Try a HNL-SYD one way on the QF booking engine at 128,000 pts on August 14th - now given that can be bought for $400 incl taxes that means you would burn

320 POINTS per DOLLAR!!!!!!!!!!

That's like the equivalent of 5.5 million points for an F to Europe return!!!!!

OR EIGHT TIMES the usual redemption rate...

Of course if you were to book the self same seat, same flight, same day, etc and book them at the same time, your mate using the Deathstar reward engine could part with a paltry 57,000 pts

The joys of outsourcing to two suppliers for the same IT infrastructure one badly thought out idea to screw your lovely loyal customers...

Quite simply QANTAS HAVE LOST THE cough*&%ING PLOT!!!!!

Qantas have said that they have not changed availability of old award seats.
Does anyone believe that?
If you look up award F, J seats for SYD-LHR, most seats are on BA jets, and there are not many for July 08.
And Qantas will be on their best behaviour at the moment. How many classic award seats will there be in 3 months time, and how will we know?
Overall the new scheme is dissapointing but not unexpected

I would not expect to be able to find ANY classic F/J awards to London in July 08 at this point. It is Oz school holidays in the first two weeks of July and UK school holidays start (for some) in Mid July - I would expect all classic awards (i.e. awards available to QFF and oneworld partners) to have gone many months ago.

As of this morning
Qantas business class Sydney Frankfurt return June 2009
Total points* for 1 adult

This is a blatant rip off, and complete joke.

Now that I have life time Gold status , why would I continue with this FF program?
I collect all these points but can't redeem them.
So I don't lose the points after 3 years - so what I can't redeem them either!!:(

Baz. QFF Platinum ( for the time being at least)

That seems fairly reasonable compared to some of the others to be honest. Mind you if you want to go to FRA next June there are some J seats available on out on 3 June and back on 13 June for (admittedly back via LHR on BA) for a mere 256K points +++

I'm not sure where the high water mark is but how about 2,464,833 for First ADL-JFK 15/12/8-2/1/9. But LA-New York is slumming it in Business.

Or, under the classic engine, you could do the same trip sometime after the London Olympics. Possibly. If you wait up til 2:00AM and stamp your right foot twice as you click on the book button. Possibly.

BTW - just noticed a <tell us what you think> button at QFF . com . au.

Just rang QF to see what a book anytime First Class fare was in Sept 08 between Sydney and San Francisco, and was told 1,775,317 points which equates to 3,3506,634 return. A huge increase from the previous 288,000 points in F return.

I'm not a QFF... but I'd love to see a well written article (as humourous as this thread too ) in a newspaper outlining these ridiculous awards...

Did the agent make any comment when replying with the number of points required?

Given the move to an effective $/pt methodology in AnySeat (or more precisely something pretty close to 1.0c / pt)

It is not surprising that the seats which were previously seen to be the best value under Classic (ie best ratio of $ cost reward to points) have suffered the most under the AnySeat system

I rang 131313 for this info, and he said this was the first time anyone had asked for how many points were needed for a F class ticket SFO-SYD. He had to leave and ask his supervisor, and on his return (and after he told me how many points were needed) he said the number of points equates to the dollar value of the ticket adding that a one way tix (which is what I wanted) was approximately $16+K. Needless to say, I am now quite happy with my J seat.

Edit: should have been SFO-SYD

Don't see myself using anyseat anytime anyway for anyone.

BTW, have never had a problem getting seats in Classic program as a Plat with partner Gold. Just book in advance (use priority line 131211), the customer service rep will request release of seats for you on your preferred date and flight if they are not available and advise likelihood of success. Have used this successfully twice to get family overseas (4 seats). :)

That's good to hear...although presumably you get charged the booking fee for using the phone service...?

Reg, that's a very useful piece of advice. How far in advance & what routes were you booking?

As a rusted tin level FF I find the F seats to places we want to go are, apparently, the same places every punter wants to be and so only find seats available at the very front edge - I think that's 352 days in advance.

I have spoken this morning with the travel company that manages the FF seats for this web site.
I have been told there is nothing available in J class to Europe- LHR, FRA in the Qantas classic program for June 2009!

I see at least one J seat available QF1 SYD-LHR on each of June 8, 11, 18, 22, 23 & 24; (25 on QF31). F seating on 9 and 24 June.
