I got our new NAB Velocity Platinum cards last week and NAB confirmed the annual fee will be waived. Took about one week from application to receiving the cards in the mail. For the fee waiver I had to submit their shareholder benefit nomination form to the share registry. Will wait for the 60K points to come through and will advise if we have any issues with the fee waiver. The lady who took my application (done at the branch not on line), said they would waive the first years fee but I think she is wrong on that and it should be the 2nd year as long as we meet the minimum spend. Found that everyone I spoke to at both NAB and CBA had different responses and information, which in many cases conflicted with the info on their web sites - very frustrating!

It's supposed to be waved for FUTURE (2nd and following) years provided you meet the minimum yearly spend requirements as per https://www.nab.com.au/about-us/shareholder-centre/shareholder-benefits

Called up NAB today to ask for a cancellation of the Qantas Platinum Card because of the annual fee and was put through to the Card Cancellation Department, asked for the reasons for the cancellation and explained politely that I was using other fee free cards with similar benefits. Offered another fee free year. Worth a try.

Any idea if they refund the annual fee pro rata if cancelled say a month into the year?

Had the same experience. Called up cancellation on the 18th Feb and got another year fee free.

Just called up, no dice. Was basically asked why I choose a card with a high fee if I thought it was too expensive. Might have to bite the bullet as I have a few trips coming up that I paid for with the NAB card and would like to use the insurance. Total spend last year around 12-15k I'd say.

How long have you had the card?
If it was less than a year I can understand why they would stand on that position.

Yearly spend on card?
About $4.2k Only used for initial spend and Amex offers.

I just told them that I have a fee free premium card so can't justify the annual fee.

Called up to cancel, when they asked why, I said annual fee, and they waived it.
I left the card open, but my question is are these cards churnable? What's the data?
If yes, I'm assuming I should have just closed it?

Try calling up again closer to the time of your annual fee date. You might be lucky the second time. They did mention to me on the phone when I called to cancel last time that if you make NAB to do your main banking transactions (salary, cheque,...), they might consider waiving the fee. Yes, I agree, the free overseas travel insurance (by QBE) by just spending $500 or above on any prepaid purchase (ticket or hotel) is really tempting.

Rang closed and not interested in retaining....
Only had 7K limit.
Put through to card services closure.
Told I don't use the card...last July
Told that I probably got it for the promo running.
"Any questions" well I will keep it open if no annual fee....."not an option at this point in time"
"Most welcome to re apply in future for any other deals going on"
I did contact them thru the year about balance transfer at 0% but they were not interested then or today to do work something out.
Professional closure but stupid if they had dug a little deeper......

They may not have had access to Ubank info....but I thought that may have kept NAB interested.......oh well

I've had a NAB Platinum card (no fees) for years and recently got a Qantas Platinum ($250pa fees), has anyone transferred their no fee option between card with NAB? I have my mortgage, savings, salary etc all through NAB and part of Choice Package and turnover >$30,000pa on credit card.

If you have a choice package just ring them and say you want the q card connected to that and they will refund the fee. You may have to close the other card however.
if no joy with the card department , your local account manager has the discretion to waive the fee at their discretion, if you wish to run two NAB cards.

Thanks Cessna, I only kept the second card as was fee free, if they waive the fees for the Q card then i have no issues cancelling the second one. I will definitely give it a go.

It happened to me, got the fee waived because i have the home loan package with them.
