I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on an issue.

The family (2 adults and 3 kids) are planning on going to Orlando in September. I was wondering what happens to the kids points that are earned on the flight. Can I claim them under my FF membership or do they go to waste?

The kids are all under 12.

Is there a membership you can get for the kids, if so how much does it cost.

It seems like a waste if those points cant be claimed as it should be about 9000 points for each way.

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't see a reason why you can't get them a membership. Although it may cost you $82.50 each

sign each one up to a Qantas FF account. Don't pay the joining fees though. you can get an EDR card from Woolworths and register it then use that to create a free QFF account.

There are also some links around too for free joining on Qantas..

Once the flights are flown you can family transfer the points to yourself.

You can't claim the points for yourself. Sign them each up to Woolworth's everyday rewards and they'll get their own free QFF Membership

Once the points post into each kid's account (others have already identified how you can open QFF accounts in conjunction with Woolworths to avoid the QFF joining fee), you can then do a family transfer to pool them all into your single QFF account.

But you can do the family transfer to yourself later on.

Just remember that you need to have points activity once every 18 months to keep the points in the kids account as someone on here found out the hard way recently. However that can be as simple as scanning the everyday rewards card at woolworths once every year and a half.

I was going to family transfer the points I just wanted to avoid the $82.50 joining fee per child.
So I just have to sign them up to a woollies everyday rewards and they get a free FF membership sounds good to me.

Thanks for all the help guys/girls.

I assisted with a similar set up for 2 grandsons 18 months ago - the whole family was heading to Cains for a wedding.

Did not need to join daughter and son in law as they already had QFF membership. They had enrolled for free at an EDR promotion booth in the local shopping centre, she had over 10k purely from shopping .

Grandsons now race to scan their cards first when shopping with mum.

Dare I assume this is a Disneyland related holiday? Hope you have a great trip, starting with a fantastic Qantas experience. :)

Regarding Qantas Frequent Flyer memberships for the kids, as others have already mentioned, Family Transfers are very popular to pool points.

However please note that Qantas Points do not expire as long as the account remains active every 18mths. Perhaps they can "pay" for their own travel next time? ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
