Planning some major shopping and other things in the US this July, would it be too much to hope for the AUD to hit 80c? :D So long as it doesn't fall during my jollies to Fred Segal...

I also like where it currently is with the GBP, along with the massive high street discounts shopping in London has never been cheaper!

Re: US Dollar Watch

Oh crikey! This is where this thread went! I thought it was deleted and I was ostracised as a thread-cough.

Had no idea that "Falling!" was about currencies!

Yeah, I thought it's something else!

Could the falling of currencies is due to H1N1 virus spread? I hope not. I'm planning to preterminate my time deposits and bought property. I pray I will be able to get good rate.

Back down to 75¼¢ ... :-|

The long and the short of it is that the AUD tracks the US stock market. Anyone who doubts it should have a look at the index v the dollar. The market is down 3 days in a row so is the AUD. Find a graph of them together and be amazed.

And mine to Europe in November..

Would be happy for you if that were to happen. Can I request that at some point before it this ,it dips back to about 0.65 (or really if the SGD became delinked from the USD, I don't care what it does against the USD, I just want it to go back to 1:1 against the SGD)

Not till after my US trip in July!!

OK, that's fine . I'm planning trip to Europe in late June, the expenses for which I will put on my AUD credit card and use my AUD savings if it holds until then. But come August .....:p

I amazingly have watched the little Aussie battler slowly climb during this trip.Even hit 77c for a short while according to CNBC.Today watched it plummet to under 75c.
As for the SGD,as I am arriving there in about 6 days it better not get back to 1:1.

You are all greedy. :p

The AUD will sustain a drop against most currencies and pick up again in August/September. It is then due to drop again until the Christmas/New Year period. Mark down those dates and ensure you schedule your overseas travel accordingly. ;)

Any tips where to buy $US (commission free) around Sydney on a Saturday?
You can get commission free TCs at post offices-now I am sure you have to order them so dont know if you can lock in todays rates(I get mine from bank also commission free and they do have stocks on hand).Despite all the warnings of problems about using Tcs in the USA(obviously from people who dont use them) I have never had a problem, never paid a commission to cash them, had to show ID less often than when using a non-US CC and you get a better rate buying TCs cf cash.

John you have obviously now qualified as an expert economist!:p:lol:
Mrsdrron has been pestering me to get some more $US.I succumbed to the pressure yesterday morning when it was at 78.8.Now 80.2:(.

Sitting at 80.378 right now so is it time to buy money? Some people dived in at 70c so they wouldn't be too happy now. Those who buy now won't be happy at 90c but if it falls back to 65c then they'll all be laughing.

I hadn't heard of anyone using Traveller's Cheques in years but in my experience in the USA they were treated the same as cash in big stores. I'm not sure I feel comfortable buying a few thousand USD in cash from Travelex and leaving them in some hidey-hole in the house for the next few months. TCs would make me feel a bit better (don't sign them twice though!). I wouldn't even know what they looked like nowadays.

The thread title should be changed to "Rising! What now?"
