With careful routing a DONE4 should get ExPlat on AA. Even easier if you're based in the northern hemisphere.

For comparison serfty and I have been playing with routings to maximise QFF SC earning. Can get over 2300 SCs, maybe even 2400 SCs (depending on some seasonal flights). Done carefully thats enough to requalify for WP twice (perhaps with an extra flight).
You'd have to break this trip up to requalify twice, surely? You've got twelve months to complete the trip, so presumably you'd do half in one qual year, and finish it in the second.

Or you could plan to kick it off just before your qual year ends, and finish it after, though you'd have to get the timing right.

Otherwise, the effect of getting all these points in one year would be that you'd make WP easily and at the end of the year all those points would expire (though they would still count towards lifetime status).

Not necessarily (see below).

Yup. I do this with *A RTWs.

Gets me thinking, can I use it BKK even if I am flying Finnair BKK-SIN but then have a QF flight that day SIN-MEL?
Unless the rules have changed, the comp QC access cards don't require you to be travelling on a QF flight. Can be used at any time.
Thanks. Sounds good to me.

I understand that QP in BKK is open prior to Finnair flight at 2:30pm.

I was hoping that QF would give me SG status early. I have never been higher than PS but they can see that I have the flights in the system and will take me to SG in 5 weeks time.

Anyway they have re-assessed my PS status until May 2007 without actually reaching the re-qualification mark. Another complimentary voucher for QP which I can use next month. Gets me thinking, can I use it BKK even if I am flying Finnair BKK-SIN but then have a QF flight that day SIN-MEL?

April 21st, bring on SG. :D
JohnK, Aren't you flying D class on Finnair?

If so, you have access to the QP without using your invitation as that's the lounge Finnair uses ex BKK. FWIW, you have access to ANY (open) oneWORLD Business class lounge at BKK.

Yes flying D class on the 3 SC's runs.

But my SIN-BKK-SIN on Finnair, at beginning and end of trip, is only discount economy, way too expensive to purchase D class on AY from SIN, so as I will not qualify Gold until I get to SIN before heading back to Australia I would not have lounge access. Therefore I will need the lounge invitations. Either that or forego lounge access and sell them on eBay.

Well, I hadn't thought of checking Mrs LW (who has the same 28 Feb 06 status review date) as we've been posting all her flights to AA this year.

You can imagine my gobsmacked face  when I saw this tonight:

Current Status: Silver
Status reassessment will occur: 28 Feb 2007
Status credits earned from 01 Mar 2005: 0

Thanks QF, although I don't know when we'll have any flights to post to there (as we're getting more points on AA, which are worth more to us anyway given our travels through USA shortly).

Another gobsmacked Silver checking in. My reassessment was due on 31st May, but in the mail yesterday was a package with my new Silver card which is valid until 31st May 2007!

My year-to-date status credits are a whopping 30 (almost all flights are now credited to my American Airlines account).

The letter from QF starts:
Extending your Silver Qantas Frequent Flyer membership.

Thank you for choosing to fly Qantas, oneworld alliance and our partner airlines over the past 12 months. In recognition of your loyalty, we are delighted to extend your Silver Qantas Frequent Flyer status until 31 May 2007. Your new Silver membership card is enclosed.
Well thanks, QF. But I don't think the Silver card will be replacing my AA Executive Platinum one in my wallet. I'm sure though that my sister-in-law will appreciate the QP Complimentary Invitation to use when she goes to London next month to compete in the London Marathon.

Guess it means if I use QF FF points in the next year I won't have to pay any penalty if I make changes. That's something I suppose.

The whole thing is quite bizarre!

Status reassessment

How do QFF count excess SC's in one year? Do they (as I think I have seen in this forum) average your SC's over a number of years thus allowing you to retain a higher level if your SC's are below the renew level?

Thanks,

AB

Who Knows? If you ask me it is a black art, not understood by us mere mortals.

Re: Status reassessment

Welcome to AFF abtwo :)

I think Lindsay Wilson has reported QFF seems to apply an average method in his case (more than once). However, more recently, from various accounts, it appears QF is more generous or is taking other factors into account.

Of course there are no guarantees - if you want to be sure to requalify then make sure you meet the criteria (or have lifetime status).

Indeed, Kiwi Flyer, I was just away collating the information from my records. I have reported them previously, but can't find the thread.

My FF year is 1 March to 28 February. In my first year reaching Platinum (ending 28 Feb 2003), I attained 2,535 SC's.

The following year (to 28 Feb 04), I was comped (early) in Dec 03, when I was on 1,065 SC's. I ended up earning 1,100 SC's by 28 Feb 04, so 100 SC's short of re-qual mark.

I can't locate my 28 Feb 05 SC balance (as by this stage, I had gone to the electronic version of reporting) and now I can only access my records 13 months previous from the QFF website (so I can only get back to March 05, but it doesn't give me my closing SC balance). But I was also comped early (in Dec 04).

My 28 Feb 06 SC balance was 765 and I was comped in Dec 05 (when on ~395 SC's but they were aware of 5 paid bookings in the system for travel prior to my FF year).

So, for 3 year running, QF have comped me early, with two of those (2004 & 2006) being under the re-qual mark. 2005 is a mystery...but I remember reporting on a thread in AFF that my average SC balance was >1,200 re-qual mark

I have found they have averaged SC's over 2 or 3 years. After my first year above, I was comped Plat at 985 SC's the next year (about end Dec, as my renewal is 28 Feb). I ended up getting exactly 1,200 so felt comfortable with their decision to comp me. Total over 2 years = 3,565; two year average = 1782; requirement of 2,600 for Plat achievement and renewal.

The next year was 895 SC's total and they comped me again. Total over 3 years = 4,460; three year average = 1,486; requirement of 3,800 to have re-qualed to this point.

My YTD is only 405; but have ~800 in ticketed travel showing in my QFF account bookings area. so should make it again this year to Plat. But might be the last year, who knows
