Seems that another WP just got comped status well short of the re-qual mark....it was still showing 28 Feb 2006 yesterday when I was checking my flights, but today is a different story:

Current Status: Platinum
Status reassessment will occur: 28 Feb 2007
Status credits earned from 01 Mar 2005: 405

I wonder if they looked at my 5 paid bookings in the system and said "well he's going to get there anyway, let's renew him early".

Great, now to prove to them I can do it by actually flying the re-qual level anyway...with qualifying flights of QF BNE/LAX/BNE (in H class) and AA LAX/DFW/MIA, MBJ/MIA/SFO (in A class), then BNE/PER/ADL/SYD/BNE (all K class) and PER/KGI/PER and PER/BME/PER (all O class).

Now, who else has been comped early to SG or WP this year?? My brother was comped early to SG (but wasn't far short and had 3 return flights to either SYD or MEL in K or above in system).

Congratulations Lindsay. As you note, you were always going to make it anyway. This is exaclty as it happened for me the year before last. New card arrived 2 months befofre end of year while I was still a few hundred SCs short and I ended up on 1240 SCs for the year.

I do not consider this strange or unusual. QF assess status 2-3 months before anniversary date for a few reasons, and I assume the major one is so they have time to print and post the new kit to you before your anniversary date.

The alternate is to do it as some USA airlines do, where they work on a calendar year for status, but provide the 2-3 months overlap at the beginning of the next year. So status is calculated on the calendar year and valid until the end of Fed or March the following year.

Personally, I like the QF method where each person has their own membership year.

I just checked my summary data and yes it's happened to me as well!

My year end is Feb 28 2006 and my Platinum expiry has switched over to Feb 28 2007!

Currently, I have 825 SCs and no forward bookings.

I was planning to fly CNS-SYD-PER-SYD-CNS in J class in mid-January to make up the SCs (320 SCs for about $3,000), but hadn't made the booking yet!

Yay!

Thanks QF!

Just wondering also whether the early assessment may reflect trying to lock in WPs in the face of Velocity?

Previously my reassement kicked over about a month or so early not 2-3 months early and I had to justify on the basis of forward travel plans.

It also accentuates the lack of status in the Velocity program, which many have rightly observed is a disappointment in the DJ FF strategy.

Or maybe they are a little more lenient once you have been WP for a few years or more as I now have...(?)

Congrats Lindsay and Platy.

Not really surprised (a) soften the blow of May changes (remember QF being good more recently than the older bad news), and (b) hold onto any waivering Velocity converts.

I haven't. Went from a tad over 1600 SCs on Nov 30 to 0 on Dec 1st. Up to 40 SCs now, but haven't been comped anything yet. :D

Well I've got 80 more SC's to go for Plat for the first time.

I might do another flight next week to hit another 40 in a flight next week (haven't decided on if I need to do it) and then i've got some Class S AA flights (4x10SCs) to make out the 80 SC's I need.

If I get pre comped to Plat (note: never plat b4) before I go to the USA then that will be great.

I think I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask them about it. I know that I'll definitely be flying before my Feb 28 2006 deadline to make up the status so there should be no issues but you never know. :-|

Daniel

I've seen this raised several times, but am yet to see someone pre-comped to Platinum. Yes people get comp'd when they are Plat, but not before.

Good luck though. If you can, do the extra flying to get you over the threshold before you head to the US. The bonus points on your trip (Assuming you're flying Qantas) plus the additional perks may just be worth it.

Well, I hadn't thought of checking Mrs LW (who has the same 28 Feb 06 status review date) as we've been posting all her flights to AA this year.

You can imagine my gobsmacked face  when I saw this tonight:

Current Status: Silver
Status reassessment will occur: 28 Feb 2007
Status credits earned from 01 Mar 2005: 0

Thanks QF, although I don't know when we'll have any flights to post to there (as we're getting more points on AA, which are worth more to us anyway given our travels through USA shortly).

I wonder if they will renew Mrs NM's Gold status next year? She still has a total of 50 lifetime SCs in her account :p .

I'm actually flying to the US on Award seats so no additional bonus so hence more reason to let me be upgraded without too much cost to Qantas.

My year ends Dec 05, and was requalified as Gold in October, with a whole 150 SC's (now up to 190, and no more bookings for this year).

I have retained my status early for past two years talking to Qantas the said that they average your use over a period of years

Seems I am in the minority. 120 SC's off Gold and they moved me back from Gold to Silver  .

I rang and emailed QF outlining my travel plans for next year (monthly "B" class intra Oz trips as well as a discount Y o/s holiday) but obviously they didn't care. All my work travel is booked 1-2 weeks before travel so there weren't any bookings in the system but I advised QF of this and referred them to my previous travel where they could see my travel patterns.

Last year I did 890 SC's so I thought that would be taken into account as well.

Two years ago Qantas recomped me gold in July when I was only on about 450 SC's with bookings in the system to take me to about 550. I still ended up with abour 620 by the end of Oct.

This year I was over the SG requal 600 in June, but they did not send me a new card until August. ... still haven't used that shiny Gold card 8)

Well I was just fobbed of by 'Fiona' saying that I had almost 3 months to qualify and I would not be considered for an upgrade unless my anniversary date had passed and certain parameters had been met.

I explained my reasoning for the upgrade and she said that the only way to do it was to do it was to do the flight (for example on Monday) and they will courier the Plat card to me for a AU$30 fee. She said a few times that I had to qualify on my own right and that it would not be fair on the other platinium members (hence the need for many of us to hit WP before comp upgrades come in).

I said that I thought I did not need a card as the boarding pass should say my status on it but she said that the international lounge sometimes requires to site the card as well.

So unless I fly J class on Monday to Sydney, pay the AU$30 courier fee and HOPE that the card arrives before I leave on Thursday then I'm pretty stuffed on getting access to those first class lounges I told my wife about. :-(

I might try again and hopefully hit another CSR but not sure about my chances.

I qualified WP on Oct 30th, on Moday 31st my Profile was showing WP.

I just checked out my WP kit and the covering letter is dated 4th November and the cardboard envelope is postmarked 10th November, so I don't like your chances.

If you are really keen on those F lounges I would suggest you do the J flights & pay your $30 for the courier; otherwise just take your SG card along and see how you go.

The other thing you should do, once you attain WP, is to ensure your Emerald Status is put against every flight segment you have booked. It should be automatic for Qantas flights, but may not be so for other oneWORLD carriers.

Hey Danielh, why don't you print out your online profile summary - at least it shows your current status and expiry date of said status...may help(?)

Yeah, I'll do that.

It also depends on when AA actually credits me SCs.

On the cheap scenario, I fly the standard domestic flight on monday and do 4 trips int he USA to make up the required 80 SCs for Plat.

My 4th trip will be ON THE DAY I LEAVE so I do not think AA is that efficient. :-(

I beginning to be resigned to the fact I will only make WP AFTER my holiday. Logistically it will all be pretty iffy to try to get it earlier anyway with all the courier issues and all that.

I will call them tomorrow and hope to get someone else.

Daniel
