I'm doing a SYD-BNE hop leaving from the international terminal tomorrow and I was wondering if I will need to take my passport to get through customs. I'm not travelling out of Australia and will be transferring to a BNE-TSV flight after that. Anyone?

I think you still need your passport as you are going through customs.

No, but you will need some form of photographic identification, such as an Australian Drivers license.

You need an official form of Australian (State) government issued photo ID. So an Australian Drivers Licence is sufficient. People who are not Australian citizens do require a passport.

d sticker allows for either passport or drivers licence.. I've used both before. No dramas either way

Thanks everyone! I'm going to be going bush up in North Queensland for a week, so I'm inclined not to take my passport if I can get away with it. It might take a while to find if I lose it!

Well there you go. I thought one still needed a passport.

Serves me right for missing on the JQ F Lounge gatherings.

Be aware that you will need to satisfy the Australian quarantine regulations re fruit, food etc at the Brisbane end. Don't do as I did once, when I travelled down from the bush with 2 ripe bananas in my carry on luggaage. Ate said bananas at Sydney and disposed of the skins there, but the quarantine doggie in Brisbane could still smell them and I was bailed up as I dashed out of the airport.

I've done this flight a few times but as it take so much extra time (at both Sydney and Brisbane ends) that I no longer take it.

What time? I'm doing SYD-ADL tomorrow.

Would have to be QF19 onto MNL right? It now departs at 11:30 (was 10:30 until a week ago) so only 30 minutes before QF81. Flounge guest time!?

And another yes to any photo ID. Have flown QF81/82, 19/20 and QF8 tags many times. Just don't lose your boarding pass!

BTW: If you fly two of these together e.g. ADL-SYD-BNE or v/v you can really mess up the immigration guys and girls - have had them scratching heads a couple times!

Cool thanks. Yes potential lounge guest time. I plan to get to the airport at around about 9:30.

Just a Drivers License is fine.

I have always used that.

There would be many people who have done the domestic trip who don't have a passport.

No you don't... just don't lose your boarding pass. you need it at the other end to hand in.

And if you wish to keep your boarding pass for whatever reason then you can just provide the AQIS staff with the stub IME.

Sorry medhead and Joshua, I was a bit late to reply. QF16 that continues to Manilla, 11.30am. I had a guest pass for the first lounge from last years stuff up, so managed to use it this morning :). I'll be 80 SC's from WP by the end of the fortnight, so might be able to get myself in in a few months time!

No worries. I was in the first lounge as well could have guested you. But I guess your pass had an expiry date.

With the boarding pass my experience is that JQ take the stub and AQIS in Melb take the main part. For QF81 just now, qantas was happy to scan the BP. AQIS in ADL took the whole BP but where happy to give me the stub on request. I always photograph my BP in such situation, or keep the stub, in case it is needed for a retro points claim.

Yes, my pass expires at the end of the year and I think it will be mostly domestic till then, so I was happy to use it. I was a bit late with booking my flights, so I didn't think to post my travel times in the monthly thread. I'll try to remember next time, it's always good to catch up with a fellow AFF member.

When I left the international terminal, customs was going to take my boarding pass on the way out, so I asked them to pull off the stub for me to keep, which they did. Everything went well with using my drivers license too.

Thanks for everyones help, it made the process smooth and stress free.
