DJ 737 Business Class

Here is a image of VH-VOT one that was getting re-configured, but when the Qantas grounding was announced, they put her back into service immediately with a 3 config, Business Class, row 3 of the new economy seats and row 4-30 of the old seats

Nothing to do with Qantas there were aircraft like this prior to the Qantas issues. The reason is a certification issue.

However those with l2air previously only have new seats in 3 and the rest re-upholstered.
Could you see back to the exit rows and whether they had selected the same seat there?

I might just be unlucky, or the new aircraft gods hate me. But the seat maps for my next 5 flights have all switched from New Aircraft/BSI/Refitted Aircraft to the old aircraft seat map.

Have a couple of the newer aircraft been pulled from service or something? Or I'm the victim of some unfortunate equipment swaps?

rookie DJ seat selection question. Is there a way that you can see from the seat map if the aircraft has real business seats?

From experience, the above "tells" indicate only whether or not you are on a Business Class/Row 3 equipped aircraft - not whether the aircraft is a true BSI 738.

Honestly I think this approach may no longer work - recently I've had a few flights that I expected to be on old interior aircraft (using the technique above) that have actually been serviced by refitted aircraft.

In addition my flights this week both show a 3-3 configuration in Premium/Business (which would indicate an old interior) but Exit Rows are 13&14 (which would indicate a new interior).

In that case, would it be fair to say that a purple 2-2 section at the pointy end indicates a refitted aircraft, since row 3 has reverted to 3-3 from the old PE 2-2?

Unfortunately not, since Row 3 has not been officially designated as Premium seating for some time (the seats remain red and the legroom is the same as the old Premium seating however the table blocking the middle seat has been removed) and has been shown on seat maps as 3-3 for quite some time.

So is there a definite (bar equipment change) to find out? seat map for next week below;

this has 3 - 3 but bulkhead and emergency exit at 13 14

That's the same seat map I am being shown for my two flights this week (DJ816 on Thursday and DJ885 on Friday) and since they show the exit row as rows 13 & 14 I am fairly certain these are aircraft equipped with the new interior. I'll report back on Thursday once i've flown the first leg...

Its showing the same for my brothers BNE - SYD leg of his transcon on Friday. *(DJ950)
I will get him to email me one he hits the lounge in Syd to confirm if he had proper business seats...

The seat maps are definitely still working correctly - there seem to be quite a few equipment changes at the moment. Whilst Liam has had 5 swap out to non-refitted aircraft, I've had two that were originally showing the old seat map, but now show the new seat map. They seem to update it online as soon as there is a change - however with the seat map available from 14 days out, there is quite a big window for change.

I find this can happen with QF too - I've been changed from a B738 to a B734 on a few occasions in the past.

The closer to January 18 we get, the less it should happen, as by then theoretically the whole fleet should be done!

The recent weather issues that have affected OOL, SYD and MEL have resulted in aircraft being out of position, hence the "chess pieces" need to be rearranged, hence change of aircrafts.

Hi VA,

Is there a way we can tell from the seat map if the aircraft is a refitted or BSI aircraft? The tricks that have been posted seem a bit contradictory.

For my upcoming flights I have a mix of what's clearly an old aircraft (ie no front left bulkhead and blocked 3+3 PE), a seat map that's clearly been identified as BSI (ie front left bulkhead, 2+2 PE/J) and the as-yet-unknown 'hybrid' of front left bulkhead and blocked 3+3 PE. The 'hybrid' layout has the exit row in the same position as the BSI map.

At least I'm going to be getting some good variety on my status run.

Im about to book a flight Mel-DRW again and it will be January next year, I'll be flying before the official switchover from Premium to Business that happens on Jan18, so im curious if my flights were between Jan 06-16, and they were "premium" tickets, would i get the business class service or premium service?

In the Virgin Australia media release it states that business class is now on sale "for travel from 18 January 2012" http://www.virginaustralia.com/AboutUs/Media/NewsandPressReleases/P_019119.html

Hence, if you have purchased a Premium ticket for a travel date before the 18th of January it is highly unlikely you would receive Business Class service.

However, it is very likely that your aircraft will have the new Business Class cabin as the majority of the jet fleet will be refitted by then ready for the launch (as per the media release above).

I'm hypothesising, but you should get the current Premium Economy service - full selection of whatever you want from the paid Economy menu, included in your fare. The seats should be a nice bonus.
