That's it. Not enough. There's a SC calculator on the QF website and one the BA website and they don't seem to match. Plus they never show the fare codes. Where do you find them??

I've found a BA fare of €2423 with all outbound in Business and back in Premium Economy. The outbound would surely give him enough SC before he zeroes, but might be a bit much.

If booking through ba.com if you click on the flight number it will show the selling class for the flight. I did a test and it showed K for the Euro Traveller segment.

Note that BA Tier Points do not correspond to QF SC's - always check QF's website for what SC's they will give for the different partner airlines fare codes.

If he has time outside of the LAS trip then do a BA journey OTP-LHR return in Club Europe which would then give enough SC?

Thanks Flashback. I actually think this is the best option with a total fare of €358/525AUD for 120 SC. It would require an overnight in London though with limited J availability at this late stage. Plus I have learned he is a 4 hour drive from OTP. There is a LCC from his city with flights to LTN but again with limited availability, overnight required, then last minute J flights from LHR at about £800 plus the fare to LTN. He may still go for the LAS option, but I'm doubtful.

This has been an interesting, if time consuming, exercise but I fear I must surrender. It has been grand being GOLD for 18 months, but I don't fly enough to retain it myself and we've simply run out of time. Thanks for all your input.

When is the best time to start looking/booking a USA status run for Sept 2017?

My father wants plat again, and is happy to waste the money for little value. Will be back at basically 0 SC by then so wants the full 1400...

About 3-4 months out. Very early and the cheap fares may not be loaded.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

i will be travelling to SFO mid/end of February and plan to do first AA run, prefer to start and end in SFO and willing to allocate 2 days for the run.. :)

Found from the other thread option :

SFO-DFW-MIA-PTY // PTY-MIA-SFO 450SC -- Google flights costed A$1469, $3.27/SC

I can't find the AA option in the Qantas calculator, how did you guys calculate the SC ??

Select AA as the Airline carrier next to the From? box. MIA-PTY is Business Class. The domestic US flights are First.

SFO-DFW (90sc) / DFW-MIA (90sc) / MIA-PTY (60sc).

i can see on AA.com SFO-PTY return for ~US$1088 (ret) on 20/21 Feb. Above route available but also options for SFO-CLT-MIA-PTY and v.v.

SFO-CLT 150sc / CLT-MIA 40sc / MIA-PTY 60sc.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi everyone & greetings from London. I'm currently in London on holiday but will be returning to Australia Tuesday. Thanks to a return J flight from PER-LHR on QR, I will have accrued enough status credits to upgrade to QFF silver status. By the time I get home to Qld I will still need two more more flight segments to be awarded silver status. I will be travelling from BNE-ADL in October. I've already booked my ADL-BNE flight on VA which can't be changed as it was a sale fare. If I book BNE-ADL via SYD on QF on the same PNR will this give me the two segments I require or will I need to book separate flights to achieve the segment?

Thank you in advance for any advice offered.

Two different flights on the same PNR will give you the two segments you need. The general rule is that each different flight number will give you a different segment. From the Qantas website:

A Flight Segment is travel on the same flight number between originating and destination airports as shown on your E-Ticket or Itinerary. For example, travel from Adelaide to Los Angeles with a change of flight number in Sydney would earn on both the Adelaide to Sydney and Sydney to Los Angeles Flight Segments.
Whenever your flight number changes during your trip, it will be counted as a different Flight Segment. Total earn is the sum of each Flight Segment.

Congratulations! (Now onwards to gold...? :p)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thank you for your reply Chrizztofa. I thought booking my BNE-ADL flight via SYD(or possibly MEL) would give me the two segments I require to acquire silver status but I just thought I'd check with the brains trust in here to confirm. I'd love to achieve Gold status but realistically it will never happen for me as I just don't fly anywhere near or regularly enough. I should be able to maintain my silver status through to the end of 2018 as I'm planning a trip to the US next September.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

A limit applies when booking a multi-city itinerary using the multi-city booking engine. The easy workaround for this is to simply book the flights as individual sectors, in which case you can book as many flights as you want.

Is this the same if you have a good agent doing this ??

"Don't fly enough"! I think many on here have thought that before finding their way to the upper tiers of status. :)

Your trip to the US is an excellent opportunity to hit SG (or even WP) for not too much $.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thank you all for this thread.

I'm 130 SC from Gold and I live in Sydney, I'll be interested in flying to SEA over Summer but can also try some domestic destinations. What's a good way to get me there before February?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

SYD - PER with comfort seat request in whY return and a SYD - BNE in whY?
Or a one way subclass of J SYD - AKL? WhY coming back.

Hi AustraliaPoochie, thank you for the suggestions.

I hope you can appreciate my ignorance on this matter as I'm quite new to the FF scene.

What do you mean by 'whY' return? And when you say subclass of J, does that mean like?

How do you request a comfort seat? Is that like premium economy?

Cheers,
Lucas

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Comfort seat you have to call QFF.
You actually buy yourself 2 seats!
Earn both frequent flyer points and status ctrdits for both seats.
Stll quits pricey though.
Many small trips could do too.
7 return trips at 20 status credits per trip.
I have done both scenarios in real life.
Plus many trips to NZ.
WhY is discount economy.

Welcome to AFF Lucas.

generally, things like "whY" refer to Economy (Y being the general class code for it) flying. Subclass of J (Business) the pooch means a discount Business Class seat, for example from SYD, flying SYD-MEL-OOL(Gold Coast) in Business can cost around $670ish one way and earn 80 SC - this can sometimes be more economic than other options involving cnvoluted and longer sectors eg to Darwin or Townsville/Cairns.

Comfort Seat bookings are made via Qantas reservations - essentially paying for the seat next to you to be free - one can earn the FF and SC for that extra seat paid for.

hope this helps

Thanks both!
When you say Syd-Mel-Ool, are we flying down to melbourne then buying another ticket to Ool?
Is that a custom itinerary that we can do via a phone call?

Cheers

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Go to the QF website and see if it lets you book MEL - OOL (Coolangatta).
Aim is for the cheapest.
My suggestions are out of this world, but gives the more $$$ options, which do not meet the requirements of most.
On some days in Dec, QF flies direct from AKL - PER.
Ok, price this, giving you 135 QF SC.
SYD - BNE in discY.
BNE - AKL in discJ.
AKL - PER in discY.
PER - MEL in discY.
MEL - SYD in discY.
You can do multi city it (bookings), but the discJ you have to book separately.
Aim for the lowest cost.
QF does have a status calculator.
If you really want to fly SYD - SIN, and then fly MH J, you could do that. But make sure you fly SYD - SIN in QF's own metal.
Flying MH from Australia to Malaysia does not earn you a lot, and MH never carries the QF flight number. Flying a QF flight number earns the most QFF points and QF status credits.
In my case, I tend to spend too much. This Jul 17 will be my third year of SG. After that, I aim to fall to PS, but will pay to fly discJ. No more status chasing for me.
Unless you make it to WP/P1, I find SG not really worth it.
But to each their own.
