re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

YVR-PTY has some really good fares at the moment. I can find and price a run that gives 90c USD or $1.19 AUD/sc... for 880 sc's.

I'm back with a mk II... a new record breaking (price, SC's and c/pt wise) SC run.

Same YVR-PTY fare with 14 flights, 2 of which are AA B788's. 1020 SC's for $1013.40 AUD which is 99c AUD/SC or 76c USD/SC.

For QF platinums, you'd earn 33400 QF points or 3.03c/pt. A true points run for those who redeem their QF points on things with a value of greater than 3c/pt.

PM me if you are interested.

Just tried to PM you but discovered I don't have enough posts to do so (need 15) Can you PM me? :)

I've been trying to replicate a routing from the BA Tier Points thread on FlyerTalk without much luck. (LAX-PHX-JFK-DCA-RDU-CLT-ATL-MIA-PTY return). Sounds like yours might be close to it. Although I am looking quite far ahead - May/June 2017 timeframe.

Cheers.

Have just locked in this run and can confirm everything above. No sketchy 40 minute connections and some decent overnights to recharge the batteries.

madrooster you deserve a medal, good game. :)

That sounds ideal. I'm unable to PM due to being a new member.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hello everyone. This is my first post after years of reading. :) I would like some advice for a friend, but it's really for me. He is Platinum and will have 1275 SC after he flies to Bucharest OTP next week. If he can get to 1400 before the end of September he will give me GOLD!

So what I'm looking for is a quick day trip in Europe for 125 SC as cheaply as possible, or he is considering a trip from OTP to LAS before the end of the month. Can anyone suggest how to turn OTP to LAS one way into 125 SC?

Thanks so much for any advice.

Combine that with a SYD-YVR (J ret) and tantalisingly close to a one trip attain WP. But you might be taking a break from flying afterwards.

Does starting in SFO come close? Without trying too hard, I found 450 SCs SFO-PTY (ret) but US$1060. Nothing like the ~$580 fares earlier this year.

I'm actually looking for an easy and relatively low cost 125(min) SCs from a day or o/n trip from SFO in July next year (to retain WP before end of July - already booked award flights to SFO). I'm struggling to find a sweet spot that doesn't fall short because close locations are only 30 or 40 SCs. And further afield ratchet up in price compared to just doing SYD - NZ (J ret) during a sale.

Happy to slum it in whY to reposition to say SEA / or one way - if that helps? Also have QF, VA and UA miles - probably UA the most versatile but no *G lounge access anymore :-(

I think he would have to have 2400 SC's to qualify for the complimentary Gold membership benefit. Check the page on benefits of Platinum membership on the QF site. https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/flying/tier-benefits#benefits-of-platinum

As per other posts it will just get him Platinum, not the level where he can guest you gold. Anyway LGW-MLA return in J (BA Club Europe) will get 160 TP quite cheaply.

Yes of course you're right. He has 2275 and needs 2400. Thanks for pointing out my error.

Apologies for my error. He needs 125 to get to 2400. I will check that BA flight you mentioned. Thanks.

Are you open to departing from other airports in the bay area?

Is OTP the only start point? If so, could just do OTP-LHR return in BA J; although it's not the best priced route. OTP isn't a great place to start from unless they want to reposition on a LCC to an easier airport.

Potentially. So long as getting to/from the airport is as easy as BART from Downtown.

I did look at SFO - OAK (the long way ;)) but nothing. I take it AA to don't operate from OAK?

Hi Madrooster, I'm unable to send PM's due to being a newbie. Not sure if you're able to PM me at all. If not, I'll send you a PM after I get out of quarantine.
Cheers

Quite a few good options (that can be done in a day) here.

Thanks so much for getting back to me again. I felt so stupid for putting the wrong points on my very first post I put my head down and spent all night looking at options myself.

I've been looking at how to get max SC on his outbound OTP-LAS which will be before Sept 30 instead of a random status run from OTP. I have found a BA fare of 1521 Euros return in PE on 27 Sept, but the OTP-LHR is a "Euro Traveller" fare, whatever that means, and the LHR-LAS is "World Traveller Plus". I'm not sure where to go to find out what class that is and how many points it gets. *sigh

ET is basic economy, WTP is premium economy. If crediting to QF, you can look at the fare bucket (i.e. WTP is usually T or W) to see what it earns. I haven't credited to QF in a long time but think there's a calculator that might help? If not, there's usually a partner page that will show what fare buckets earn (and over what distance) etc.

Unfortunately, QF are not very generous when it comes to BA WT+ fares. For the actual WT+ segments (LHR-LAS-LHR) he would get SC’’s at the flexible economy rate which is 70 per sector. For the Euro Traveller segments (OTP-LHR-OTP) you need to know what fare class is being used; discount economy applies if the code is one of G K L M N O Q S V and would earn 15 SC’s per sector. If the fare code is one of B E H T W Y then flexible economy applies and would earn 30 SC’s per sector.

Basically he will get either 170 or 200 SC’s depending on how the OTP-LHR legs are coded.

That's it. Not enough. There's a SC calculator on the QF website and one the BA website and they don't seem to match. Plus they never show the fare codes. Where do you find them??

I've found a BA fare of €2423 with all outbound in Business and back in Premium Economy. The outbound would surely give him enough SC before he zeroes, but might be a bit much.
