newspapers on a domestic flight (any flight) ... argggghhhhh...they are purely used by '...kers' ..so that those around them can see 'what they read'.... flick thru in a minute and gets discarded to create mess / waste... if you cant survive without a newspaper wherever/whenever....loser!!!

Hey...I resemble that comment!

As for complimentary newspapers in J are being phased out, as so they created so much waste, the CSM told me.
Particularly the case when they are available in the lounge the CSM added.

Except you aren't meant to remove the newspapers from the lounge!

I have heard it all now. Reading a newspaper makes you a ...ker.

Your posts have been so negative a dismissive of late that I think you may fit in better on the SMH than here.

There you will find people who hate everyone as much as you do.

Clearly a Daily Telegraph reader given there isnt really any news so it doesn't qualify as a newpaper.

hot towels serve a useful purpose - cleaning hands before eating a meal! (even if you use cutlery for the main you still need to break your bread by hand and eat it!)

hot towels also useful to clean newspaper print off hands.

and depending on condition of the seat when you get there, to clean up last pax's spilled drink, or even worse... oil on windows (multiple theories where that comes from... sometimes looks like greasy hair, sometimes from the nose!)

hot towels are essential!!

If I was allowed to have my tablet on during taxi & takeoff I'd be happy to dispense with the newspaper...

The IFE on most Dom flights is so poor that there is nothing else to do but reading a book/magazine/newspaper.
I wish QF will finish installing the next-gen IFE on all 737's soon (and update the programs on the 767's iPads more often) so I can say goodbye to the dirty newspapers (and apparently stop being a loser :( ).

Except you aren't meant to remove the newspapers from the lounge!

In the QF lounge, you are certainly allowed to take the paper with you. In fact at the J lounge quite often someone is handing them out as you leave.

VA lounge have papers marked as Lounge copies..

Hot towels in J send the message of high standards and better service.
From what I'm hearing lately, QF Dom J don't offer very high standards or a better service, so removing the hot towels actually make sense.

Maybe he's just a passionate book reader lol (and if I'm organised well in advance, a book is something I prefer over a newspaper (it lasts me one-two flights to boot).

One plus of someone leaving their paper behind in the past, is that I've scored a newspaper to read as well (recycling friendly :D).

I've been a loser for many years and actually enjoy reading the paper on a flight.

For return day trips I always grab a paper to read on the outward leg, and then have the crossword to do on the return.

Why read a newpaper to educate yourself about current affairs and develop your own opinion when you can listen to talkback radio and have some opinionated bigot give you one you can adopt as your own.

The only time I actually read a physical newspaper, is on a plane!

I used to buy the Fin Review quite often when I lived in SYD many years ago, and actually find it quite interesting. I'll always take a Fin Review if offered one. I must be a w@nker ;)

I take at least the Fin Review and a couple of mags from the (QF) Bus Lounge whenever I am there - didn't know i couldn't.

Hot towels are not that good for cleaning hands as they contain no soap

However they are good to give a wipe down of surrounding areas and I do enjoy using them

If QF want to continue cutting corners they are going to lose more high-end customers to VA

For the sake of a small hot towel and a newspaper, if things are to tight increase J fares by $5 to cover this small luxury...

QF is not installing next-gen IFE on 737's

In-fact they only have a few more 737's on order, but a bucketload of A320's (QF Group) which are sitting around in Toulouse costing QF Group cash to store there because J* Asia can't use them...

Perhaps if QF Group didn't subsidise J* so much they could afford a few more newspapers and hot towels.

VA Dom J isn't anything to rave about....
