The steward in J on New Year's Day advised me that these have been enhanced out of the Business cabin.

I had a horrific flashback to that period when the champagne flutes were replaced for a couple of months by plastic fantastic.

By the way, does anyone remember the egg-shaped glasses that used to do pre-flight drinks on the 767? I want some. And a trolley. No idea who to call to get all these ex-things.

Yes you're right, I hadn't noticed but thinking about my last J DOM flight just before Christmas, there were no hot towels.
After losing the newspapers early in 2013 there's not much left about the J service that's different to Y now. How long until the "water-or-juice" pre-flight drink is enhanced as well I wonder!

Was obviusly fortunate on my last 12 flights in Dom J during December received hot towel on all flights. Perhaps it is on shorter sectors????

Just got off QF 600 MEL > BNE & yes no hot towel's offered - Good observation.

Although my observation skills are not so good i have to say, i didn't notice the lack of hot towels until reading this thread.

Im hot enough lol;)

Perhaps it is just the shorter sectors... certainly between the east coast and ADL I've received hot towels as recently as a week or so ago.

If the hot towels are supposed to have been phased out, word appears not to have reached all. QF497 last night did hot towel service in J (just one, not long after seatbelt sign extinguished), and that was just the short hop SYD-MEL sector.

QF447 (another SYD-MEL) on 31 Dec 2013 did have those cotton hand towels in the J toilet - I'll miss those the most if they go. So much nicer than paper towel.

The hot towel I can take or leave, nothing wrong with it, just doesn't do much for me.

re: hot towels/towels in J/C loos...if they are being phased out...makes sense to use up any remaining stock (which have already been purchased)...so some ports may have..or not have any...but of course there is that 'element' of crew who just don't offer...even if loaded!! im not making excuses...just trying to cover all scenarios

Nothing on BNE-SYD last week and that route usually has them (don't know for SYD-BNE because I flew VA J). The towels were still in the bathroom though (I don't usually go on such a short flight, but ducked in when they announced we'd be holding for a little while).

I'm doing SYD-ADL-SYD in a few weeks in J and will be able to see if that route still has them.

Had hot towel on SYD-MEL on Wednesday but no hot towel MEL-SYD today. Come to think of it, no hot towel on OOL-SYD a few weeks ago.

Just landed in TSV ( QF BNE > TSV in J class) & not only were the Hot towels handed out so too were the newspapers.

The CSM came over & had a bit of chin wag with me & I asked about the hot towels & yes they are going to phased out on most routes, although the longer routes out of BNE maybe not quite yet ( ie BNE > PER ,BNE > CNS , BNE > DRW & BNE > TSV) were some of the routes she told me .

As for complimentary newspapers in J are being phased out, as so they created so much waste, the CSM told me.
Particularly the case when they are available in the lounge the CSM added.

They only tend to offer The Australian or the The Daily Telegraph these days anyway, which you can always grab as you board (if you didn't lift the QP/QJ Lounge copy). I do pine for the days when you could get a Fin Review on board, but I'll survive regardless lol.

Have been offered the Fin Review last month on most J flights If I wasnt it was because it was taken by a prior passenger

newspapers on a domestic flight (any flight) ... argggghhhhh...they are purely used by '...kers' ..so that those around them can see 'what they read'.... flick thru in a minute and gets discarded to create mess / waste... if you cant survive without a newspaper wherever/whenever....loser!!!

Well I've only had a handful of Qantas flights this year so it may just be bad luck, but then my strike rate for a Fin Review was declining over the ten years I routinely flew the Qantas Eastern Triangle between 1999-2010. Until we align with the US over use of iPads etc during TO and TD a newspaper is useful for those "electronic blackout" times and Fin Review has always been my preference. If soft product does have to be cost-contained, then at least onboard papers is a not as bad as other alternatives.

Thank you for your opinion however offensive it may be. I like to read a paper on flights as IFE is often cough and its a good way to pass time. Nothing to do with being a tosser . Does that make people sitting with their lap top on on work presentations tossers too?
