Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I can't get it to show up for less than $62. Can you share the link you're using?
Hi, I set up the address as 609 Hawthorn Road, Brighton East, 3187 under my name in Dan Murphy website which is a local Post Office address. I loaded up my cart to be delivered to that address to generate this image - see the attached.

If I was unsuccessful arguing with DM staff, I was going to have my purchase sent there and try to redirect it to my address. Apparently it is possible for under 22kg packages but I am yet to try.

@Robliversage

DM have the Lowest Liquor Price Guarantee policy.

"I beat all my competitors every month, every week, every day, every hour, on every price, on every product, on every bottle..."
- Dan Murphy, October 1995

"That was the promise Dan Murphy himself made, and it's still our policy today. With a team devoted to proactively checking competitors' prices daily, we endeavour to ensure that when we open our doors, the liquor prices you see are the lowest."

I was going to get them to match to their own store in Victoria as it is clearly possible to have it delivered to the PO address. I am pretty sure that ACCC would take a dim view of the situation if it is brought to their attention but it didn't come to that as they overrode the price to match the Vic price.

I’m not getting that offer today
I have ordered 5 Penfolds Bin 8s from Coles today for $28 a bottle. They appeared to be out of stock when I tried to have them collected from Bondi Junction or Edgecliff, but then I changed my method to the delivery and was successful in ordering them. Would be fun to compare them to Rose Kentish Cab Shiraz.

Also re your corked Rose Kentish bottle, I am 99% sure that if you put the cork back in and take it back to DM, they would replace it or refund it. Afterall it is a defective product if it is corked.

I just opened another one. It was corked. Not sure what Dan's policy is there...

Not sure if you mean corked as in the cork broke off/crumbled when trying to open or whether the wine itself (pre-opening) had been affected by the cork?

The cork on the Rose Kentish I opened last week was very brittle and I could tell after one brief attempt that a normal cork screw wasn’t going to work. Pulled out the monopol “ah-so” and it saved it.

Highly recommend getting one (if you don’t have already) when you know the cork is looking brittle.

No, the corks look fine, very solid (they are branded Ulithorne). The wine was off.

Is this the $14.88 Kentish? Did they replace same value of $14.88 or the RRP $62.90? 🤔
So Dans' answer to my request to send some $14.88 Kentish to Sydney:

"Similarly, our prices may fluctuate between various stores depending on the conditions of their individual sales environments. The best way to ensure you have the most accurate price shown on our website is to make sure you have selected your local store online. To do this, you can set your store in the top right hand corner of the website - above the search bar. Once you've done this, it will show the availability of each product you search for, and its price for purchase in your location. In the case of the Under Wraps McLaren Vale Cabernet Shiraz 2014, it is on clearance in the Brighton area, hence the lower price, as there is limited stock that our Victoria stores are trying to clear what stock they have left."

I think perhaps the chances of success are higher if you ring and get a nice person on the phone. Bit like price matching and how hard they apply the strict letter of the policy - all depends who you get!

So, that first choice sale plus xmas 10% code with 22% cb brings 2017 and 18 bin 389 down to around $60. I wonder if we're going to see better than that in the near future...

The need to have turnover and stay solvent will take prededence, in time,
given the attitude of a certain major customer of Aussie wine.

Wish our wineries all the best, when narrowing producers/products it is my habit to
select "Country" ..... "Australia".

This makes no sense for delivery....especially to Brighton from Ascot Vale....

Did anyone go the the finewineco garage sale?
Offering not as good as last year. Entry level Louis Jardot and Giant Steps cases seemed popular (although seen 1 guy come out with a case of Tolpuddle Chardonnay). Surprisingly, almost no Italians.

Due to covid restrictions queuing was part of the fun.

Left with a single bottle of Felton Rd Calvert Pinot and a Decanter.

That is interesting. I frequently see things that can be delivered to Syd or Melb but then come up.as undeliverable with standard delivery to ACT... I wonder if it's worth a call. How good is this wine?
I have received Rose Kentish 2014 Cab/Shiraz yesterday. It came in an original Rose Kentish branded case of 6. Actually I discovered I had a bottle of 2013 left. The 2014 vintage didn't have a wax enclosure hat 2013 has - see the attached. Just a round paper sticker with Rose Kentish symbolic covering the cork.

I removed the cork and examined it (mindful of the reports of corked examples). The cork looked new as if it was only bottled quite recently - see the attached. Or maybe it was stored upright perish the thought.

The wine was gorgeous but it really felt like a very young vintage. Hard to believe it is 2014.
It felt lighter and more elegant than I recall 2013 was like, but maybe I am mistaken there.

Can definitely be kept for further 5 years at least.

Definitely more Cabernet that dominates than Shiraz, despite being medium bodied it had a great depth and long lingered after a sip. Ended up consuming more than my usual self imposed half a bottle limit so will see how it tastes today!

Such a Shame. The wax definitely makes it look much better for $100 bottle and my guess, also leak proof.
Unless Rose is expecting we do our own wax dipping.

Thanks for the tasting notes! Look forward to try it in due course.
