Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I feel like sometimes I/we get very caught up in the 'P' in PQR. Everyone wants to get an amazing wine at the best possible price.

I liken it to wanting to always sell shares at the top and buy at the bottom. Worth taking a step back sometimes and thinking "Is this wine worth the price I am paying"? Regardless of RRP or the fact that it was cheaper a few months ago.

It's a bit like the whole discussion re: Curtis wines. Ridiculous RRP compared to the average price people pay..no arguments there.
But am I happy paying $20 for a Curtis Cavaliere? Yeah probably. It's a pretty good wine.

Just like I hope the Sorby Adams is a great wine and worth $72, and will try not to focus on the fact that it was cheaper recently and probably not sold at the RRP that often.

Does feel like it's the thrill of the chase for a great bargain more so than getting great wine sometimes!

Some good points, but you can have it both ways - great wine and a great bargain - if you have the right information at the right time.

I've noted a few "was cheaper" DM buys to highlight the recent DM significant price increases, usually when the deal is mentioned again later and hopefully to inform the buy or not decision. In your case it was after the buy event, sorry.

It's easy for me to do as I have many of the historical deal prices easily to hand, but I can stop if people don't want to know.

I definitely appreciate your input on historical prices, and to be clear my earlier comments weren't directed at you.

It's more around my own mindset and trying not to get TOO swayed by buying at bargains vs buying good wine at an appropriate price. Obviously we are all after the same thing though :)

Your efforts are appreciated as are those of many others. Most people would rather be informed than go in blind and pay through the nose or buy wine that is nothing better than cooking wine or drain cleaner.

IMO this forum also provides great price reference before yo commit to a purchase, that is why I love it so much.
Different topic, cellardoor.co is selling Seppelt Calambar shiraz for $16/bt. Thoughts?

Just grabbed the last 2 bottles of Punters Corner CS 2018 at First Choice Liquor Upper Mt Gravatt at $12/bt. Great food wine. Queenslanders can keep trying your luck at First Choice Liquor.
PS. nothing else exciting at that store.

This was $50 back in March.

Can't remember which thread and when, but everyone here seems to be a big fan and I know a few stocked up on this recently as a cheaper quaffer (with some discounts).

I've actually never tried it myself but keen to.

ps: Thanks for the Sorby review. At least one person has said they enjoyed it! haha.
One thing is clear - we're not all going to love the same wines on here, but we all love a bargain!

Search recently on this forum. You won't find too many detractors.

A case every year for me

It is good, as I can see many people in this forum like it. to under 20 wine, I would prefer cool-climate reds. There are lots of choices, here are some.

2016 Tar & Roses Heathcote Shiraz 6 pack $60 + free shipping at finewineco.
Rated 91 by CM (tWf) sounds like a nice quaffer

Gone in 25 mins!? Either very popular or there was not much stock.
Quite sad - I'm a big fan of the Tar & Roses, and $10 is a crazy price. Just missed out!
trying my first of these tonight, a nice wine, very savoury, reminds me of Sami Odi little wine No. 8 at 12 months. Savouryness- not mouth feel. A bargain at $10

The Wine Collective have free delivery until midnight AEST tonight (or possibly 7.59am tomorrow) when you buy at least one bottle of 2019 Rochford Estate Pinot Noir - a few suggestions before $20 referral and 8.8% Cashrewards:

25% off with CR at CM - haven't looked to see what's there.
besides chardonnay, using a $50 off $120 voucher, you can buy these for $56.41 after 25% Cashrewards:
remember, gift cards invalidate cashback (vouchers might, but gift cards definitely do)

I bought a case of the Salomon Estate Wildflower Syrah Viognier from MWG last week - for $22/btl it was bloody brilliant. Sold out now unfortunately, but highly recommend if you see it anywhere.

$21.99 @ Cloudwine

price match @ My Wine Guy

Yeah, the $20 voucher valid for purchase over $100 and pretty sure not redeemable on the first purchase....

all their vouchers are immediately redeemable, including the $20 welcome/referral voucher on first purchase :)

What did you end up with.. I landed some Tendril & Vine from Grays, it reminded me of what was served at the last budget fundraising event I went to. It will go back as soon as I can get someone from grays to respond to my customer service request (has been a week so far, no reply)
So after getting no replies to my emails about returning, first one was 13 days ago, I found a number to ring Grays today. After about 10 minutes I got a person in the Phillipines (Telstra why are yours still closed then). And he said - "sure we'll give you a refund, keep the wine as we don't want it back..."

I've been following RB for many years and subscribe to his site. Totally agree with him you can have both, while some of the more amazingly good deals no longer around I now set my bar extremely high on PQR and have no problem finding deals. If anything my problem remains saying no. Yes you have to be picky but it's totally worth it for money saved and bang for buck (ie buying better wines no matter what your budget is).

The first and only time I’ve ordered wine through Greys few months ago they charged me wrong amount. Tried calling them, gave up after 1hr on the line. Tried writing a message on their website, gave up after 14 days with no reply. Then I’ve applied for chargeback with AMEX. Waited the mandatory 21 days before getting my money back because they also didn’t bother replying to AMEX. At least I got to keep the wines as compensation for wasting my time with this horrendous company.
