Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Can Lakes really go pass the “dull” phase and get better? I still have a few bottles 2011 Lakes...
2010 double magnum I had was very good. I used to by a case of Cabernets every year but stopped about 3 years ago.

But I'm eyeing off the 6 x 2013 Wynn's black label for $150. Nice to buy with a bit of age and usually very nice. Anyone want to talk me out of it? Maybe some tale about how usually we get the wynn's black for $15?

I do have a large stock of Wynns Black Label (a great wine that usually ages 20 years or more), but even if I didn't I'd be waiting. $20 and under very common for this wine - especially at new vintage time. A little patience on this and you'll see a good result.

Sadly, that is one wine I've never taken to. A friend of mine brings out some each birthday and to me there's usually something tastier on the table. I find it has a not so nice earthy taste even after a decant and breathe...
It is fruity when young, and get earthy when aged. Will open a bottle this weekend and see how it goes. 2011 also meant to be a great year too.

Give me a few wine names that were tastier at your friend’s birthday please.

To my opinion, winemaker, weather, soil plays equal important parts of making good wine. I only tasted 99 and 04 which it is before 05(last vintage of Dr Max), after 05, I don't think Lakes cab is an exceptional wine. But its chardonnay is far better, no matter the original char or the 3 hills from WA.

I saw you mention these couple times about buying wynns or Meshach or others at a very low price. Please share it when you buy it at that low price. I just wonder where and when.

I opened Thompson cab last night. It tastes spoiled, like Clarendon hill shiraz 14, very disappointed, may return the rest.

Check the thread. Search function is very useful (a quick search got me this result from @vyralmonkey for the 2012 black label at $20.07 in August last year. Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals Plenty of other examples available). These deals are shared frequently by myself and others.

Nothing is guaranteed, but we are due for another good black label deal.

Thank you for your intel, the oldest I had was a 07 then 2011. Yes Lakes Chardy is pretty amazing.

Re Thompson Cab 16, I found it is a valued mid-week food wine, medium body, integrated tannin, more savory than fruity, medium finish. Could it be bottle variation?

The few CH single vineyard Shiraz I had was way too big in tannin & alcohol and jammy, I enjoy bookman Merlot (under $15 @ DM underwrap) better, still a massive merlot, but everything is toned down a notch.

I thought $33 at DM was a great deal until I followed this forum😂.
This one is for desperate and impetuous friends who need some aged red or they'll drink the younger stuff I've bought recently for them to cellar. Given it's the 2013 not '17, paying an extra $30 for the six box to get it now. Of course, I'll kick myself if someone can find it for $20 soon

A good news story about the Thompson Estate. I will try to keep it as short as possible.

I decided to buy a dozen bottles of the Under wraps wine and got it down to low nines after egift etc. When I went to checkout it showed as being in stock just down the road so I could do a pick up, therefore I decided to do this. So, in I go and sure enough ready to go so pick it up and off to car and have a quick check, oops, it is Cab Shiraz.

So, back I go and the girl is most apologetic and off she goes to find the right wine and returns after about 10 mins with two six packs, checks they are CS and hands them over. I am just about to walk out and she asks if it is okay if she just does the transaction through the till to adjust the stock levels. Sure, no problem, so starts scanning and puts in 12x and scans and the amount pops up about $1080. We look at each other and I say it should be about half that and explain about the Under wraps (I get the feeling this doesn't show in their system.)

So, off she goes again as we decide it is the wrong wine, on closer looking it was 2015, but I couldn't see that it would make that much difference to price. Ten minutes or so later she returns empty handed with the Manager and I am thinking, this isn't going to end well. After a bit of pondering and explanation as to what I was expecting the Manager says to me that this all they have and was the year that important to me, to which I replied that I wasn't concerned as it had been a bit of a gamble anyway. With that she says something along the lines of 'Well it's not your fault we stuffed up so I am happy for you take these", which I was happy with. She helps me out to the car still apologising and off I go.

I get home and check out my prize and a bit of googling shows what I actually have is a 2015 Thompson Estate The Specialist which is $90 a bottle and is very very nice. Have to say I was surprised at the service, both girls were excellent at handling the situation, not that there was any great problem apart from the time involved which was about half an hour.

Happy customer.

Thanks. Unfortunately the chardy is our of stock. Will recheck later as they sometimes reallocate stock.

Hey guys, how does the Dan's discounted price for "any six" bottles work? I'm doing an online order for six bottles but it's showing the full price for each, not the discounted price (and it doesn't reduce when I click through)

Agreed, I think paying a little extra for one with a little bit of age on it (stored properly, direct from winery) is worthwhile - $25 is a good price. Have ordered a 6 pack myself

25% cashback for Liquorland today via cashrewards, not sure whether it's worth getting anything yet.
Jacob's creek double barrel Shiraz and Cab currently on sale for $18 - would be 13.91 After 25% CB calculated ex GST
Same for Pepperjack CS

St Hallet Faith Shiraz $16 (12.37$ after CB)

MV3A = McLaren Vale III Associates, this label either re-badged Giant Squid Ink or Made for DM. Either way, I bought a single bottle to try back in February this year and wasn't tempted to go back for more, not great value at $50.

BTW
