COVID-19 in Japan and Japanese waters

I have been missing the updates from disruptivedolphin.

Reactions: tgh
Despite IOC statements, postponing of OG still option as the games contractually only need to be held sometime this year... IIRC

Last night I could get tickets to the men’s 100 metre running final for about $1400 .
I passed as I would have to leave handball too early.
Rushing between events is not what we want to be doing in the high humidity.

Latest comparable figures on testing:

Japan: 392 positives out of 7,200 tests (5.4%), with 553 results coming back in the past day.

South Korea: 6,767 positives out of 178,189 tests (3.8%), with 13,449 results coming back in the past day.

Test numbers, Japan / South Korea: 4.0%

If Japan had the same percentage of positives within their larger population, their true number would be more like 17,000.

Japan has only just imposed quarantine restrictions on arrivals from China,HKG,Macao and South Korea. But not from Italy or Iran.Amazing.
Maybe it is all about trying to not totally kill off the idea of the Olympics. Taiwan seems to have been an important route in through Australia for Covid as well

Phase 2.. bury the bug by under testing and then crank up the pr machine

The Governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike has said it would be "unthinkable" to cancel this year's Olympics in the Japanese capital.
She did admit, however, that the coronavirus pandemic will have some effect on the running of the Tokyo 2020 Games this year.

"It can't be said that the announcement of a pandemic would have no impact," Koike said to AFP.

"But I think cancellation is unthinkable."

Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori confirmed that the Games are currently going ahead as planned yesterday, despite Executive Board member Haruyuki Takahashi suggesting they could be delayed

I see you and raise you via the greed of the JAPANESE, they appear to be hell bent on hosting the Olympics, no matter what the consequences.

Along with the Japanese, the VIC Gov should hang their heads very low.
Seems very harsh. I don’t subscribe to the greed of the “Japanese” concept. There are hundreds of athletes who have spent years in preparation for the Olympics. I’m sure the Olympic committee will make a sane and rational decision.

Personally I think that while the Olympic Committee should definitely be monitoring the situation it's way too premature to be actually making any decisions about it.

My only point will be that most people who speak of 'the Japanese' generally don't have a clue about Japan, no matter how many times they've been there. Even many of 'the British' (such as myself) would take offence at such a phrase, and throwing some general characterisation at 'the Australians' (such as my other self) would just sound ridiculous.

But maybe if you capitalise JAPANESE it's better or something?

I disagree.

Anyone truly "monitoring the situation' would have realised weeks ago that there is a rapid development globally of canning any events. The fact that some hold to the aspiration of a 2020 Olympics just shows how some people try to foster their own interests in the face of even a tidal wave of woe....
