Well MelUser, let's hope from those positive words above from batman and serfty that it will be the same for this promo.

got the bonus from a supplementary card spend last week.

2 interesting points:
  • the bonus points were credited on 9th Oct (no 8-10 week wait as it states on the T&C);
  • my flyer didn't arrive till today!

Has anyone else received a leaflet in the mail last week about a BP Bonus Points promo? Its personalised so I'm guessing it only applies to some people?

The deal is:

1000 bonus points on your first spend of $50 or more at BP

5 bonus points per $1 spent on each transaction of $50 or more

Offer valid between 7/10/2008 to 30/11/2008.

Seems like a great offer, shame I filled up petrol at Caltex only a couple of days earlier, but will definitely be going to BP during the promo period now!

i have also received a leaflet and have looked front to back and back to front. It doesnt say it has a 1000 bonus pts for the 1st $50 spent at BP. It only has 5 bonus pts per $ spent at BP. No minimum spent amout of $50 requirement. I have got exactly the same leaflet as Lindsay wilson. Amex is running two promotions for this BP deal????:confused:

I have no leaflet, just a spectator here, but the T&C's of Lindsay is for transactions over $50.

Interesting...

Two different promos in structure.

As an ex-Marketer myself Amex might be market testing both promos (and perhaps others) to see which promo achieves THEIR desired result better.

If so Amex might roll out similar promos to spot lift certian segments of their card business.

Its on the very front page, well there's a small 2/3 size flap that you open, on that flap it says "Mr xx_X At last, buying fuel gives you something in return"

Open the flap and on the "front" page it says:

Earn 1,000 Membership Rewards bonus points for your first spend at BP. (Just for starters.)

Then on the inside of the front page it goes into details, it would be strange if there are in fact several different versions, but perhaps a pilot as lovetravellingoz said to see which has the better impact.

Apart from the 1000 points the other reported difference is that one for $50+...and the other (without the initial 1000 point bonus) has no minimum spend but rewards any size transaction.

Mine says:

Dear MR xx_X,

Turn refuelling into rewards......

No mention of 1000 pts with 1st purchase.

P/s: Sorry,I missed out the fine prints, it does say min spend of $50

It would seem I've been targetted with the same promotion as yourself.

Yeah that's the one I've got too. I would have thought I might get the better one seeing as I'm not a BP customer usually, but perhaps that is a little to simplistic.... ;)

Now that's intriguing that there are 2 variations on the theme...but probably to be expected from Amex (as there were 3 variations on their 5K promo).

Looking at my normal driving during the week, I go past 2 BP's (one when doing the shopping on the weekend, the other on Monday nights when I take one of my dogs to obedience training). So I don't have to go out of my way. I usually fill up at Coles/Shell or Caltex/Woolies (if we've been shopping there and still have a docket), so when I think of the saving of around $2.20 per transaction, that's what I need to value the bonus points, to make the switch worthwhile. Who washes their car weekly...they must be joking.

I'll be filling up every Monday night then (privces should be slightly cheaper) and if it doesn't come to $50, I'll just have to buy some milk and chocolates to get it there (and get some bonus brownie points from Mrs LW).

Driving home last night, I was thinking about ways to maximise use of the card at BP prior to 30/11... a couple of easy ones came to mind but I doubt I could be bothered to use them.

Some of the BP's around here have a discount system operating outside of the supermarket schemes, where if you spend $5 instore you get the 4c a litre off. Recognising that most things are more expensive than at a supermarket, items such as magazines and newspapers (presuming you'd have bought them anyway) could be a way of getting your points without any extra "cost".

Great point edman and one I'll consider as I'm buying the fuel tonight (didn't get it last night - whoops).

Same card for me no 1000 points for first transaction
:(

The marketing campaign is definitely targetted to particular spending or old members. I haven't used my card for 3 months (and member for less than 12 months) and I didn't get a postcard at all. No 1000 points or bonus points, full stop. My partner's account on the other hand has both of the promotions. And she spends plenty:p

Don't worry. I am card free with this one! I have been a member for 10 years, if that is what you mean by old!

Hmmmm, my take on the possible paramaters for being elligible for the promo - I'm a medium transacter, regularly buy fuel on the card (between the two cards on my account, once a week) BUT it would be very infrequently with BP. In fact, I can't remember the last time...

Well, I went tonight and filled up at BP ($66.50 + some chocolates for Mrs LW - all up $72.10), so it will be interesting to see whether it does post automatically tomorrow (as has been advised by another member previously).

Well, non-BP appeared on my statement at least weekly, and I can't even remember the last time I went to BP. Perhaps its geography again!

I'm a similar geography to Lindsay Wilson, yet didn't receive the promo.

Although I don't tend to use BP (Last time was quite a few years ago), my Amex card does show fuel purchases every now and again. (~ once per month maybe)

No promo.

Hmmm, the transaction hasn't posted from last night - done at 6.09pm and I thought it would be straight onto the card at 9am this morning as it was an electronic version. Just have to wait until tomorow...unless it's been quarantined to be checked :?:
