BNE QF J Lounge

From time to time. The BNE J lounge can be a problem when trying to find a seat. The biggest issue is often solo travelers taking up space. It irks me when traveling with Mrs GPH that there are a dozen or more vacant seats. But only if we sit with a stranger.

Too many seats are setup for 2 people or 4 people to sit down. You then find solo travellers taking up the 2 seaters and 1-2 travellers taking up the 4 seaters.

A lounge can deceptively look full when it isn't.

Definitely time for an upgrade although there have been improvements over the years. It can be busy at peak hours, but in general it's rare not to find a seat -particularly since recent seating changes to have more side by side rather than in 4's. Catering isn't too bad and the hot dishes at main meal times are usually worth a taste. One thing BNE has in common with SYD is that the bathroom/shower to pax ratio pretty poor and there is often a queue at peak periods.
 
Certainly the Both Domestic QF lounges in BNE need expansion and this is welcomed news.

The integrated international QF BNE lounge sounds like a great idea too & certainly emphasises Qantas commitment to BNE as a growing international hub.
 
With the merging of the Int F and J lounges, how will access to the Champagne be controlled for WP and above?

I've slid to SG now :( so doesn't affect me but would like to know anyway.
 
My sources tell me there will be exclusive WP access to an IV drip feed system (portable too).
Members will have complete control over volume ml/sec dispensing.

Very much looking forward to everything mentioned, though am still curious on how the lounge will be expanded domestically, and I presume this means at least one side will close at some point, meaning less space throughout 2016!

I think merging the two halves of the international lounge is a good idea, but also wonder how construction will go ahead while the lounge is being used? Passengers shifted to the EK lounge instead? I hope you use the upper level balcony and make the new lounge dual-level :)

Presume there will be an AFF Chairmans Lounge tour at the opening ;)
 
If they keep combining F and J (international) lounges, I'm not sure if there's any point in me keeping WP. I can count on one hand how many times I've been in a F lounge in the past 12 months, so at this rate, apart from a couple of spa sessions in SYD/MEL, a few more points earns, and slightly higher priority, I'm not losing much dropping back to SG (and may be make *A gold in the process).

Acknowledging I have never been in a BNE international lounge for QF (J or F) - from reports here the difference between the lounges is comparable to QF in Auckland. The F lounge in Auckland is not great, but I welcome the fact there is a separate lounge. I will not be happy with a combined lounge. And on this basis, I agree with you that it's another reason that WP is the new SG. Combined lounges are a diminution of quality and service. I am not a fan of the Singapore lounge and in part it is because there is effectively no difference in treatment of P1s / WPs and Qantas Club members. I know that sounds terrible, but is my take.

No doubt there are sound reasons to merge lounges in some ports. But Brisbane seems odd to me.

I tend always fly out of Sydney or Melbourne so doesn't affect me (and hopefully never will).

A new and bigger domestic J lounge in Brisbane is a very welcome idea. I always enjoy the lounge. Staff are really fantastic here (and in all Dom J lounges, actually).

I have been in the BNE broom cupboard it's not up to much. A renovated, combined lounge like SIN or HKG will be a big improvement IMO.

I don't see combining the lounges as odd at all really. There are no QF F flights from BNE.
For me the benefits of WP are better points earn, Award seat release and using the SYD/MEL F Lounges and OW F lounges elsewhere. I'd never choose an Int flight out of BNE now due to the substandard nature of the F Lounge so no change there for me and I suspect quite a few BNE based WP's.
 
BNE lounge like SIN/HKG would be a blessing ... we might even start departing from BNE rather than SYD.

The current BNE F lounge deserves to be closed!
 
Agree with PF. The upgrades to the BNE Int lounge to combine both sections and take on a similar style to HKG/SIN would be an improvement and isn't the end of WP usefulness.

Don't forget you still have the SYD/MEL/LAX F lounge... I guess they just realised there's no point providing a dedicated F space if there's no F services of their own. After all, they're F lounges, not WP lounges, that's just a side benefit.

Perhaps AKL will be next on account of their lack of F services on their own metal. But that's not a bad thing, it's a good upgrade if it happens.

Only thing they perhaps need to look at is expanding services to WP and not just P1 when visiting combined spaces.
