Hi all

A few questions regarding economy on QF 747 on the new route to DFW for a trip later in the year.

1. Which 747 variant will fly to DFW...will it be the ER? What AVOD system do these 747s have...is it the Rockwell Collins or the newer Panasonic system?

2. Are there any seats that I should request/avoid for these flights. I am travelling with my partner and I already know that the pairs of 2 seats at the back of the plane have already been allocated. I have looked at seatguru but it doesnt tell me much.

3. I realise it is probably a bit too early to ask this, but for a flight on this route in August, what do you think the likelihood of having a spare seat in a group of 3 would be? Can I expect loads to be light given its a new route? I have also read that some seats will be unsold due to weight restrictions? What is the best way for me to increase my chances of an empty seat?

Thanks in advance.

This was answered in the original thread, I recall they said it’d be a 4-class aircraft, so if you had high status you could find yourself in a seat you didn’t pay for, to help fit people in.

Unfortunately I can’t help on the other questions.

They intend to run the ERs on the route, which should answer your question, they are four class sold as three with premium pax getting F seats for J, J for PE and PE seats for Y if they are lucky. from Qantas Source

Flights will be operated by Boeing 747ER aircraft and sold as Business/Premium Economy/Economy. The usual First Class cabin will be designated as Business Class and for Chairman’s Lounge and Platinum Frequent Flyer members. The rear two rows of Business Class on the main deck will be sold as Premium Economy for Chairman’s Lounge and Platinum Frequent Flyers, along with rows 34 and 35 of the normal Premium Economy cabin. Normal Premium Economy rows 36-39 will be sold as Economy for Chairman’s Lounge and Platinum Frequent Flyers along with the normal Economy cabin. This gives a 66J/W26/215Y configuration.

im booked on the same sector and have been allocated the last row in Y+, but im pretty sure its just the seat and not the service. same thing happened to EZE a few months back. best thing is, the mate im going with who is NB gets the same bump as we are on the same RECLOC!

If that's the case, I'm off to Dallas! :D

Edit: That is, WHEN they finally credit my last flight which will make me WP!

Just snagged 2 points seats in J rtn SYD-DFW, and luckily got seats in F cabin, so set for a great holiday in the southern states...

to tag on to this question. I have just selected seats 40G and F for a trip to BKK. Are there any better seats in whY on QF 747?

Sometimes you can get Y+ seats whilst only flying Y... got that back in May... :)

Well it all depends on the aircraft configuration. 40G on the config with only a single row between the bulkhead and lavs is my favourite QF Y seat. But alas tomorrow I am on a 3-class config with 3 rows (38-40) in that spot so not quite the same leg room.

The exit rows are better but usually one needs to pay for these unless waiting for the lottery at the airport.

On the 747s I have been on 40FG are great seats as there is no row behind and hardly anyone walks past to get to the premium economy cabin. The cut outs in front are great and I really need to stretch my legs to reach the bulkhead under the cut-out.

I don't fancy paying so I'll stick with 40FG, thanks John!

If it is the config where there is one row of Y in almost a "mini cabin" you won't be disappointed. I sat in 40G MEL-LHR back in March and as Y goes it was good. I picked up on it from another thread here and followed serfty's advice. :)

My only concern is that it is just in front of the toilet block...

I would not be paying for an exit row if 40G was available. Exit rows may have lots of leg room (except for window seats), but they also have crows waiting for the lavs etc, and often result in your legs/feet being kicked or bumped when trying to sleep.

Yep, those birds are well house (plane) trained. :p

Interesting that a booking on one day notice I have a pretty good economy seat on my SYD-SIN this afternoon. Second row of economy on this 748 which in this case is Row 40(H). I assume the aircraft at the gate is the one and that is OJA.

You have a 3 class 744.

40H is in the third row of economy - currently graced by a shadow in 40J.

Given the loading of "J2 C2 D2 I2 U0 W9 R9 T9 Z0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9 E0" I would suggest that 40J should remain empty.

Yep, I guess the white socks with black shoes would pretty much describe the South Australians I was referencing
