Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Federal ALP criticised Government for lack of proper HQ which they think would have stopped the SA outbreak (which seeded VIC).

Also, I didn't see this yesterday, but an additional 130K vaccines have been sent to Melb - lets hope people take them up.

---

"We welcome [that] the Commonwealth sent about 130,000 extra doses to Victoria, but there are 5 million people in Melbourne," Ms Keneally said.

"We need a national quarantine system that is fit-for-purpose and we need urgency in the vaccine rollout. And let me make this point, Lisa - this outbreak that we are now seeing in Victoria started with an outbreak from hotel quarantine in Adelaide.

"That is the 17th outbreak from hotel quarantine in six months. We need a national quarantine system. We needed it six months ago. That would have been the best time to have it. The second-best time to have it is now.

"We need some urgency on these two national priorities - quarantine and vaccination."

Anywhere in Australia, at least. Too date.

Ask Singapore though. Certainly a different story. And Taiwan. Spread very quickly.

I’m becoming convinced that some of the success is due to management, but a dose of good or bad luck (i.e. presence or absence of a super spreader) can also make a huge difference.

And yes sadly now in this current outbreak

"Case 5" clearly contagious enough to transmit from shorter interactions such as the business meeting (as some people are much more contagious than most) and despite being symptomatic did not present for testing till he was told to get tested. And he so created multiple transmission chains when he was symptomatic.

Plus by not getting tested those that he had infected, have also had time to infect others.

So sliding doors where what could have been a small outbreak is now a major outbreak it would seem in the main due to one person choosing to ignore their symptoms for a week.

So frustrating.

And the second ring method will still work, but is now a much larger task due to the delay in it being deployed.

It's days like these that I'm glad to be a NSW Resident
Regardless of what the NSW premier wants to say, there were people in NSW who spent last Christmas in lockdown. It really can happen anywhere however Victoria seems to always have much higher spread through family gatherings (which comes down to the culture).

Arguably the best place to be is the NT, they (touch wood) haven't had a single lockdown yet since the original nationwide one in April last year.

Sympathy to Victorians - it’s been very, very hard :(.

I was looking at Covid live and of the 22,428 local cases in Australia, 19,438 have been in Victoria.

Neither has the ACT.

Yes can happen anywhere. ie Avalon Cluster where multiple transmission chains were started by person, or persons unknown, so that by when it was discovered it already had momentum both in Avalon, but also outside of Avalon.

With the current Melbourne Cluster I must have missed the reports on it being being spread through family gatherings. So far I had understood it was mainly household contacts (yes family, but not gatherings), workplace contacts and business meetings (not sure about the latest 11 though). So this spread seems so far to have been quite different to the previous Northern Suburbs outbreak.

exactly right, it's a certain culture that have been involved in pretty much all the Melbourne outbreaks.

But we can't mention anything to do with that, because simply stating what culture or ethnic background is involved in the outbreak would be seen as the dreaded over common R word & you'd be hammered from pillar to post.

Ah 7 days, doesn't affect me personally too much, but the small business I always feel for.....plus why all population can't access the vaccine while the Melbourne Hubs sit rather ideal taking in minimal patients. Drives me mad yet all gov say we're doing such a great job, on my oh my, so frustrating!!

Correct, but a small pocket of one city was locked down, not the ENTIRE state or Metro area, which if the mail is accurate, will be happening again to Victoria today.

This guy should be charged with reckless endangerment and sent to jail - with a manslaughter charge if anyone dies. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS.

Why is Vic always so vulnerable to these outbreaks. Nobody else seems to cop the same treatment!
