ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Got a letter from the CBA today advising that my Diamond card will stop earning award points for ATO payments from the 2nd November. Doesn't really affect me too much as I don't put too much through but the number of cards accepted is getting smaller and smaller

Terrible news :( Not many left now...

That is not great news Nick. Thanks for reading your mail and letting us know. We only have their BankWest CC and have about 50k to go before we hit the points cap for another year.

Some are reading the latest Life Miles deal so if you are running tight on Star Alliance Miles this might help.

One day when we are old we will be able to say to the youngsters ...... I remember the good old days etc etc etc
As one door closes another opens. For me not a great year for ATO spend but in my case credit card referrals has more than made up.

There are always new opportunities out there and for me every moment spent complaining about how the past was so much better is a moment wasted in terms of looking for the new best thing. For some its easier to complain about how things have changed from the gold old days to spend their time looking for the new good days, personally I think the opportunities are still out there.

Ahhhhhh man. I've got a Platinum card but have not received any letters yet. :( Hope I don't receive any at all.

Fingers crossed it won't apply to the Plat card.

What's the likelihood of CBA ceasing ATO earn on the Diamond only?

I guess you have the platinum at the moment? You should ask for an upgrade to the Bankwest Black card, 1:1 with no points capping. I can't link it (not enough posts) but Point Hacks have a post on it.

Bad news on the CBA Diamond, I was meant to be getting that as part of my home loan package and was looking forward to having that as an ATO points earning card.

Gah! I knew I shouldn't have but that last BAS on it! I'm travelling, do haven't seen a letter. Hopefully they are just picking on you .

edit: stuffed up and didn't quote Nick re CBA card stopping.

Looks like CBA revised their T&C on the 7th Sept

Looks like I'll be paying my tax bill on Nov 1st rather than 22nd.

Arrgghh... spent 15 minutes on the phone to some monkey at HSBC who couldn't help, and spent some time browsing this thread history to find the answer, all to no avail.

Re the HSBC Platinum Qantas card, when does the new 2500/month 1:1 cap take effect for long term cardholders? I read somewhere that it was announced early July and would take effect 'a few months later' or until end of 2015 but can't see anything concrete. Last update I could find - http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ce-payments-credit-17109-518.html#post1289848

Just got the CBA diamond letter.

All dead from 2/11/15 ;(

ANZ black still works ;)

Will need to give the CBA card a last hurrah !!

Any opinions on the CBA Business Platinum card?
$300 annual fee, up to 3 pts per $ on the Amex. Does anyone know if it'll pay the full 3pts/$ on ATO spend?

HSBC - i think long term customers have already been impacted. New customers this year don't see the change untill next year but I'm not aware of the date. I've had the card since March this year and haven't had any notification yet.
