Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

I wonder how they are settign the target for download? On The Project the other night I think it was Greg Hunt who mentioned there are some 16million adult aussies with mobile phones. That target seems very high and I hope that is not the taget or we will never get to return to work outside the home or travel again!

Most adults of working age have more than one phone in their name, be it a work and personal mobile, or their own mobile plus those for their kids, it unlikley they will download on more than one of their devices.

We havent had significant community spread and contract tracing isnt solely reliant on this app. The need for a high uptake of such an app would be more critical in say the USA or UK or Italy where community infection rates are crazy high.

If we get to stage where we have no "unknown" source cases, and the only increase is people returning from overseas and their direct contacts (givent hey should all be in quarantine) then I hope the app uptake becomes irrelevant here for any decision to allow us to return to work and travel domestically.

I think we are seeing a lot of what Management Consultants call "Stretch Goals" at present.

Perhaps NZ taking up our app might see JA sell it to both countries.

ok, it's the news.com.au so ? accuracy. However

"Disposable menus, social distancing in waiting areas and partitions across tables could be the future of dining in Australia when restaurants re-open. Restaurant and Catering Australia has issued its reopening guidelines to National Cabinet, which include a series of “practical, low-cost measures” to get restaurants running again.
The measures include:
• 1.5-metre distance between tables
• All patrons must have the COVIDSafe app or record their name and number at the place they dine in so they can be contacted later if needed"

Reporting that draft legislation specifically prohibits businesses from refusing entry based on having the app, with penalties of 5 years jail and $63k fines.

They can give their names as an alternative as per quote above. It does mean everyone dining has to give their names and phone numbers.

In theory, many restaurants (well the ones I favour) should have these details from the reservation... while specifically banning making the app an entry requirement or an option.

Yes, but name and address will be requested for every adult on the table and dining there, not just the name of the person doing the booking. These are all recommendations and not implemented yet.

Excellent news. Although as I said above, and if this legislation was not in place, what is to stop people installing the app before entering an establishment and removing it after?

Nothing, like nothing to stop people providing fake names/ph numbers.

BUT... what if the hospitality industry rolled out its own voluntary app? Call it EatSafe or something, partner with Zomato or whatever. Purely voluntary, provides details of your dining party via opt-in, smoothing over the process of entry, and as a sweetener, 5% off (need sweeteners to get restaurants back on their feet) and/or FF points!

But this will hand over the same information to an unknown third party whose servers might be anywhere in the world and whose misuse won't be legislated for like the Govt Covid app.

It appears Jb747 is right - there is an altruism deficit around :(

Its nothing to do with altruism. I have done everything else that’s been asked of me like most Australians. I would even seriously consider having the virus injected into me as I am in the lowest risk category and the most likely result is to be asymptomatic, In order to contribute to herd immunity. Not an option though.

So why not download it to help others? This is not an attempt to argue - I am genuinely interested.

This "herd immunity" is a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment.

The uncertainty is the degree and duration of immunity.

Exactly. If the immunity received from catching CV19 is only brief then herd immunity may never be achieved.

Or if say is a little over a year and you only say get 30% infected per season (if CV19 is seasonal) then you also may not reach herd immunity.

Also herd immunity also still means that a lot of people will die.

There was a video interview with a guy from WHO last week who was asked the question. He said the jury was out whether anyone will get any immunity, let alone longer term immunity so by inference anyone going for herd immunity was taking a huge gamble

Then why was WHO saying that international travel was OK?

You expect consistency ;)

It wasn't the usual [Chinese Gov] Director General political mouthpiece. It was, i think, one of their scientists, didn't catch his name.

Massive shout out to Qantas for getting behind Covidsafe.
And yes I’m well aware that their intentions will be driven by way more than the public health perspective.
As a simple ED Doc on the frontline I am very grateful for their support to get as many people to download. Here’s hoping others follow.66812E3C-C930-47A1-91B2-2A384F0E262E.jpeg
