Our AA JFK-BOS flight was cancelled by AA and since it was the last flight on the day, we had to stay overnight in JFK. There was a lot of flight got cancelled that day from JFK (10 Jul 07) due to weather (according to them). All the hotels near the airport was sold out and we managed to get a Howard Johnston smoking room for US220. It was really a rip off, but we had no choice. AA wouldn't give us a room or pay for it.
The flight was an American Eagle and it was part of our DONE4. AA only uses American Eagle for JFK-BOS route and it was all economy.
My question is, do we have any ground to demand compensation from AA for our hotel room since we have a DONE4 ticket? The ticket was paid using Amex Qantas premium card and CBA Platinum Visa. Should we try to claim from the credit card companies instead?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My belief is that AA will tell you to nick off as the cancellation was outside of their control.

Both the CBA card and the Amex card cover a flight being cancelled. Who to claim to depends on which card paid for the DONE4 and where you charged the accomodation to (should be the same company to be covered).

I agree with the others in relation to compensation/insurance

My question to you is is what were you doing using AEagle for such a short segment on a DONE4?

You can buy one-way tickets on this route from as little as ~USD85 or return from ~USD154!

Thanks for all your reply. Looks like I have to follow it up with Qantas Amex & CBA upon my return to Aust.
I originally didn't want to go to JFK, but there's no AA direct flight from NRT to BOS. I chose NRT-JFK-BOS rather than NRT-ORD-BOS or NRT-LAX-BOS simply because of trying to qualify for the AA PLT. We were travelling with other members of the family who's not on DONE4 tickets and those tickets had been purchased a long time ago. We were switching from DONE4 ex SYD to ex NRT at the last minute after learning from this site the $$$ savings, so overall we are still in front.
But I know next time to plan the trip more efficiently, after all this is only my first DONE4 and thanks to all the experts in this forum I have gained a lot of knowledge and becoming AA PLT :D on my first flight.
